Epilogue
Epilogue
Hermione watched, eyes glistening as her daughter descended the aisle. It was a very moving moment for her, watching her only child get married. She felt Severus squeeze her hand, and she looked up, giving him a thankful smile. The ceremony was a blur, but she was the first to stand and applaud when her daughter’s beautiful red curls fell across the golden locks of her new husband.
Hermione looked down the row at Ron, who clapped unenthusiastically. Hermione couldn’t contain a grin. She knew her ex husband was happy for their daughter, but he wouldn’t be caught dead celebrating the marriage of a Gryffindor (even if only in his opinion, as their daughter had been sorted into Ravenclaw) to a Slytherin.
A month prior, in a small ceremony, where Rose and Scorpius had been the only guests, and only because they were the witnesses, Hermione and Severus had quietly tied the knot. Hermione was satisfied to never marry again, but Severus wanted to make their love official.
After the happy new couple broke their steamy kiss, the guests were all shepherded to the reception hall, where Hermione, Severus, Ron, Ron’s date Maggie, and the wedding party sat at the head table. At first, Severus had balked at the idea of sharing a table with Ron, even if Ron had been seeing a pretty woman from the auror department for the last three months.
Truth be known, Ron hadn’t been okay with the idea of Severus and Hermione for quite some time. a year and a half after the divorce, Ron had met Maggie. He was reluctant to get involved again, still feeling the pain of his divorce, but after a few months, she had worn him down, and he had taken her out for a nice Firewhisky. Things had escalated from there, and he was finally seeing what Hermione had told him all along. That love wasn’t supposed to be the way they had experienced it together.
While he still thought Severus Snape was a lousy git, a small part of him thanked the man. For if he hadn’t enraptured his wife, he would never have felt the joy he now felt. Ron was pulled from his thoughts when his daughter bounded over to him.
“I love you, Daddy,” she whispered as she threw her arms around his neck and kissed him on the cheek.
“Daddy loves you too, Pumpkin,” Ron replied, remembering once again that she was worth everything that they had been through.
“Please, dance with Mum,” Rose said, grabbing each of her parents by the hand and leading them to the dance floor.
Severus glared murderously.
“Oh don’t you worry Professor,” Rose told him, warranting an even harder glare. “These two have no intention of getting back together, but they are my parents after all, and I do want them to dance together at my wedding.”
This statement seemed to visibly calm Severus, but he still watched the dance between his wife and her ex husband with a sharp eye.
“Can you believe our baby is married?” Hermione said to Ron, tears of happiness threatening to spill over her cheeks.
“I know it’s unreal,” Ron replied, smiling sheepishly. “Still can’t believe she settled for a Slytherin.”
“Oh you,” Hermione said, swatting him playfully on the arm. “She loves him, and she knows how to handle a Slytherin.”
“Must be genetic,” Ron said in mock sarcasm.
Hermione flashed Severus a grin. Perhaps there was something to that genetic statement.
“Maggie seems lovely,” Hermione said casually, broaching the very subject she’d been dying to know about.
After all, she did want him to be happy.
“Yeah, she’s really great. In fact, I think she could be the one,” Ron said, ears turning pink.
“It’s ok, Ron. You can talk to me about stuff like this. We’re not married anymore, but I like to think we’re still good friends.”
“Yes, I suppose that’s true,” Ron replied.
The pair danced in silence for several moments.
“You look happy you know,” Ron said to her, remorse evident in his blue eyes. “I’m glad he makes you happy.”
The song ended and Hermione thanked Ron with a smile.
They parted ways, Ron to dance with Maggie, and Severus to pull Hermione into a fierce hug.
“This is how love is supposed to be,” Hermione said to him wistfully, breathing in the scent of his aftershave.
“I’m so glad you came back to me,” Severus told her, hugging her tightly.
“In my heart, I always knew I would,” Hermione replied, kissing him deeply.
A/N: Thank you all so much for sticking with this one, and I really hope you enjoyed all it had to offer. Please review! Also, over the next few weeks, be looking for something new by me!
