Severus Snape

AN: GUESS WHAT!?!?! NEW CHAPTER!!!!

Chapter Ten: Severus Snape

The boys couldn’t breath as their eyes locked on the almost ghostly man standing at the end of their wand light. The man matched the muggle painting almost perfectly except for the face he was now three dimensional and fully animated.

He blinked and looked at the three before his eyes landed on Albus, got wider by a slight fraction, and his shallow skin seemed to get shallower as he lost what little color he had left, “You’re not supposed to be alive.”

Albus stared at him, “You’re the one that’s not supposed to be alive! I have no reason to be dead!”

“Al, be quiet or we’ll get caught!” Leon shushed.

“Oh we won’t get caught. Fred and Gage killed Filch’s cat down here so he refuses to go in the dungeons.” Albus brushed off Leon’s worry then turned his attention back to Snape, “What the heck is going on here?!”

Snape just raised an eyebrow at him through his shoulder length black hair, “Al? You’re not Harry Potter?”

Scorpius gave a snort, “Harry Potter is Albus’s father.”

Snape assessed Scorpius for a moment, “Then I take it you are not Draco Malfoy?”

Scorpius shook his head, “I’m his son, dude.”

“Now that you mention it, Draco would never keep himself seated in a cardboard box.” Snape said cynically, “and do not call me ‘dude’.”

Leon snickered along with Albus to receive a glare from Scorpius in turn. Scorpius sighed and removed himself from the broken box then turned to face Snape, “So why the heck is Al’s dad supposed to be dead?”

Snape took a breath which he let out as a sigh, “You’re too young to know of such magic but I believe it is safe to say that part of the dark lord was inside your father, Mr. Potter.”

Albus shook his head, “But he can’t any more. According to Professor Binns, he technically died.”

Snape let out another sigh but this one was of relief, “Thank Merlin.”

Scorpius and Leon exchanged glances with Albus before Leon stepped forward, “So…how on earth are you here? I mean, mum told me you’d been killed by Voldemort and never came back as a ghost.”

Snape looked around the room then pointed at Scorpius, “Show me what’s in your hand.”

Scorpius held his hand out to show the gaudy, cracked ring, “You mean this?” He held it up to the wand light, “This is just a ring we found.”

Snape reached for it but his hand passed through so instead he motioned this way and that to have Scorpius turn it. After a moment Snape gave a rueful smile, “That’s what did it. That ring is like what Mr. Potter’s father was.”

Albus raised an eyebrow, “My dad was like a broken ring?”

Snape sighed in frustration, “The word for what the thing is, is not a ‘ring’, it is called a horcrux. Your Father was one too.”

“Oh.” Albus’s face cleared of confusion as he looked at the ring as well, “So how, and why, did it bring you back like this?”

Snape paused in thought for a few moments, “The ring had powers before it became a horcrux. It is in a few old wizard tales, one of which it is given to a brother to ‘bring back’ the dead.” He paused again so the boys could soak in the information, “The catch is that it doesn’t bring the dead back completely and that they will disappear as soon as you let the ring go. You turn the ring three times to do so.”

Scorpius examined the ring now as though it was a greater treasure than anything his family could buy, “are you serious?”

Snape gave a short nod, “After it became a horcrux, if you put it on your finger, it would literally suck the life out of your skin.”

Scorpius nearly dropped the ring at this information, “That’s a lie! It can’t do that!” he looked slightly sheepish after the outburst, “Can it?”

Snape gave Scorpius a rather ridiculing look, “It used to be able to until it was destroyed.” He motioned over the crack down the line in the stone, “The line of power was broken and therefore the horcrux ceased to exist any longer.”

Leon followed the conversation thus far but his attention was soon drawn back to the boxes as the conversation went into more serious things. Unlike Victoire he didn’t have the same taste for knowledge as she did and had more of a knack at finding things. He had just turned to check a few things in a corner when something glittered in the trail of his wand light. The bloody Gryffindor red color of it caused him to scoot closer for a better inspection.

The lava colored rock was almost lost in the now crumpled folds of the box Scorpius had nearly flattened. Leon motioned for Albus to come over as Snape gave Scorpius another blatant insult. The black haired Slytherin came over and looked down to see what was more interesting then Scorpius getting his butt handed to him on a silver platter.

Scorpius finally seemed to notice that the other two weren’t around and turned to see what they were doing. Upon catching sight of the rock he joined them, “What the bloody hell is that?”

“A rock ya stupid blonde.” Leon replied as he picked up said rock and tossed it between his hands.

“Takes one to know one.” Scorpius said with a growl as he snagged it and inspected it with his wand held aloft, “It’s too transparent to be a rock.”

Snape sort of glided over to them and gave a short gasp of realization, “That can’t be! It was supposed to of been destroyed!”

“Everything is supposed to be dead and gone with you isn’t it?” Scorpius asked cynically as he tossed the stone to Albus.

Albus caught it and gave Snape a strange look, “You know that kind of sounds right even though we’ve only known you personally for the past I don’t know….fifteen minutes or so?”

Snape gave the boys a glare that could almost freeze time, “This was to of been destroyed back when the elder Mr. Potter and Mr. Malfoy were first years.”

“Ah.” Leon said as he snagged it back again, “So what the bloody hell is it?”

“The Sorcerer’s Stone.” Snape replied almost in awe as he studied the transparent stone.

This time Albus was the one to look up sharply and blink a few times to clear the sudden dizziness he had caused himself, “Is it really?” He took the stone lightly in his hands and studied it cautiously, “Dad used to tell us stories about it so we’d go to sleep. Does it really turn any metal to gold?”

Snape gave a short nod, “Along with making a potion for eternal life…correct.”

Scorpius studied the stone, then the ring, and then snape, “My Father said that it could bring back the dead, in a way, if part of the said dead person was still alive. Is that true?”

Snape pondered that, “In theory, I guess it isn’t impossible.”

“And say if said part was a fragment or shade of the person and was all that was alive would it still work?”

“If you were to collect a part of the once body and combine them, like bones, I couldn’t see why not.” Snape concluded as the thought over the mini Malfoy’s words.

Leon saw where Scorpius was going, “So if we went and collected the bones of your corpse we could bring you back!”

Snape’s features snapped taunt, “One, you’re too young to even attempt that magic let alone suggest doing it, two it would be extremely risky and could, in reality, destroy all you use to attempt it, and three you are all insane if you would want to bring back me of all people.”

Albus smirked, “And four, if it works, we will have completed our task.”

Leon and Scorpius smirked and high-fived each other. Scorpius gave a huge grin to his Gryffindor friend, “I know where he’s buried too!”

“Sweet.” Leon laughed almost evilly, “We get to go grave robbing!”

“NOW LISTEN TO ME!” Snape was as red as a person in all black in white could be, which seemed to be a rather dark gray, and had very near lost it, “You will not go and desecrate my grave unless you tell me what it is you are talking about with this ‘task’. I am not going to allow myself to be a way for you to get into advanced classes. You had too many hints on my part.”

The boys huddled together and talked amongst themselves for a few minutes before turning back to Snape, “We’ve made a decision.” Albus began as they broke apart from each other, “We’re going to tell you what we’re doing.”

“But only because you’re apart of what we’re doing. If you tell anyone about it you will be completely vanished because I’ll drop the ring.” Scorpius added matter-of-factly.

“We’ve got to complete this task to get into this Hogwarts club thing. From what I weaseled out of Victoire they’ve been the group started by Merlin back in the day.” Leon said as he crossed his arms.

“And we’ve also decided…” Albus said shortly before he was joined by the other two in what he was saying, “You don’t have a choice.”

Scorpius smirked and dropped the ring causing the once headmaster and potions professor to disappear instantly. Leon pocketed the stone and turned to Albus, “Scorpius has the ring and now I have the stone. You get the information on how exactly we’re going to get this potion started and stuff.”

“How about I figure out a way to rob the grave and get the bones then we can all do the potion part. That way the work was split equally.” Albus suggested back.

“Equality eshallishy. Whatever.” Scorpius said before wrapping his arm around Albus’s shoulders, “Come on Al we need to get back before mommy Gale goes looking for us.”
