Chapter 9

Chapter 9 The Gulag

Severus reached for the body that had kept him warm throughout the night and was disheartened to find him missing. With a sigh, he rolled onto his back and stared at the ceiling, thinking about all that occurred in the last few days. He was confused. Severus was happy to see Harry who was so beautiful and vivacious. A smile formed on his thin lips when he thought of how powerful the young man had become. Severus had always been attracted to power and would never deny that he found Harry desirable, but—there was always a “but”—they were so very wrong for one another.

“You’re thinking too hard, Severus,” Harry stood in the doorway with a tray of food in his hands. “I can hear you think all the way over here.”

Severus licked his lips as he propped himself up on the pillows and waited for Harry to bring his breakfast over.

“It smells delicious,” hesaid.

“I only brought a small portion. I want to see how your stomach takes to food before I give you more,” Harry explained. “Your children all seem to have hearty appetites and are anxious to see you.”

“Thank you for seeing to their safety. It seems I was found lacking once again,” Severus said as he took a bite of toast.

The toast that had smelled so good seemed dry in his mouth as he lost his appetite.

“Severus,” Harry absentmindedly picked up a strawberry and offered it to his ex-teacher, “stop being so hard on yourself. What I’ve been told is that none of them would have survived if it wasn’t for your strength and courage.”

Severus took a bite of the strawberry that Harry offered him, his lightly brushing Harry’s fingers. Severus reached up to wipe the juice that was running down his chin, but Harry caught his hand and leaned in and licked the slightly stubble chin clean.

“I love you, you know,” Harry stated. “I have loved you everyday for the last seven years.”

“You should have gotten over your obnoxious old Professor and moved on to something better,” Severus said as he stared at Harry’s luscious lips.

“I haven’t pined for you,” Harry took Severus’s hand into his and kissed his palm. “I had a life that entailed many lovers, but no one could take the place of you. Did you ever stop loving me?”

Harry lifted Severus’s chin and stared into the older man’s eyes.

“You are the only reason I lived through those years of deprivation. You, Harry Potter were my strength and my courage, but nothing has changed. I am now and always will be the wrong man for you,” Severus said as he pulled away from Harry.

“Fine,” Harry sighed, setting aside the breakfast tray.

Harry pushed the older wizard back onto the bed and crawled seductively on top of him, “While I look for something better, I plan on making love to you as much as possible.”

Severus moaned as Harry nipped at the side of his neck, leaving a string of love marks. Taking control of the situation, Severus flipped the Boy Wonder onto his back, efficiently pinning Harry by his taller body.

“Don’t play with me, Boy, or you might just get burned,” Severus snarled before he attacked Harry’s mouth with his own.

Harry thrust his hips forward trying to make as much contact with the older man as possible. Severus placed his thigh between Harry’s legs, giving the younger wizard the friction he craved.

“Da!” Severus barely registered the voice of his youngest daughter.

Esmeralda turned and screamed down the hall, “He’s awake and wrestlin’ with Harry.”

She turned and padded over to the bed and bounced onto the edge before crawling up next to her Da. Severus simply laid his head onto Harry’s shoulder and moaned in frustration before he quickly covered himself and Harry with the summer blanket.

Esmeralda sat on the pillow with her legs crossed as she looked about the room in awe.

“Isn’t it grand?” she said with glee; the room was soon inundated with a horde of excited children, all happily bouncing on the bed in great fun.

Harry started to snicker. Severus turned and gave Harry a death glare which only made the younger wizard laugh harder. The swollen cock that Severus was sporting quickly faded, leaving him perturbed at the gathering that had formed on his bed. When Bartholomew stepped through the door, he dashed toward the bed and took a flying leap onto it. He was one child too many. The bed creaked and groaned until it finally collapsed from all of their weight. All of the children’s eyes grew wide in fear. Though they understood that they were under the protection of a great wizard, they feared that they might be sent back to the Gulag if they weren’t careful.

Harry, startled at first, said nothing but laid there with his mouth opened. Once Harry started to laugh again, all of the children relaxed and joined in.

“Out!” Severus ordered with a snarl. “I want all of you out immediately and that includes you Mr. Potter.

“Come on,” Harry snickered as he herded the children out of Severus’s room. “Let’s give the grump some time to wake up.”

There was a collective moan from all of the children.

“If you’re all good, perhaps I can convince Remus to help me take you all flying,” Harry cajoled.

The children quickly forgot about their father as they scurried out of the room and out of the house.

Before Harry could close the door behind him, he heard his name being called. He turned and saw the concern look on his former professor’s face.

“They have never flown before. Please be careful,” Severus paused before he turned his head away before he continued, “They are all I have left.”

Harry would have found the sight of the stern Potion Master sitting cross-legged on the broken bed humorous if it weren’t for the seriousness that radiated from Severus and the sober quality to his voice. Harry knew now was not the time to tease the older man.
“A few days ago they were all you had. No more. Now, you have me too,” Harry said before closing the door behind him.

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Severus picked at the food that Harry had brought him while he sulked, sitting on the broken bed. He was finally brought out of his funk by the high pitched squeal of Esmeralda. Barefoot and clad only in his nightshirt, Severus rushed to out to the garden only to watch Harry diving on his broom with the small girl sitting safely in his lap. Severus gave a sigh of relief once he realized that Esmeralda’s squeal was one of delight. He watched the heavens as Remus and Harry played tag with one another. He had never been a jealous man, had never had the extra time to fret about what others had, but watching his children frolic in the sky with Remus and Harry, he could feel every nerve in his body tingle with envy.

“Severus?” a voice called from behind him.

He felt a gentle hand touch his shoulder. He jumped quickly away from the touch only to see Mrs. Lupin smiling pleasantly at him.

“Sorry,” Tonks said sheepishly, “didn’t mean to startle you, but Harry asked me to give this to you to drink once you came out of the bedroom.”

In what looked like a covered fluted champagne glass, was a deep purple liquid. Uncorking the bottle Severus took a deep breath of the elixir, trying to discern all of the ingredients that were in the potion. As hard as he tried, he couldn’t determine the components that comprised the viscous concoction.

Seeing the distressed look on Severus’s face Tonks continued, “We’re rather pleased with the results of that potion. All of the children drank theirs with little resistance and are showing signs of their magic returning.”

Severus took a step toward his children and saw the smiles on all their dirty faces. He shook his head sadly. This was more than likely the first time in their young lives that they were dirty from having a good time and not for the lack of water to bathe.

“They have their magic back?” the muscles in his throat tightened from the overwhelming emotions he was feeling and he was barely able to speak.

“It seems so, and as soon as you drink your potion we have no doubt, that you will have your magic back also,” Tonks told him.

The news left him shaken. His hands quivered as he reached for the glass His magic was something that he had thought was gone forever, loosing all hope of its recovery. He could see Tonks’s distorted, smiling face through the thick liquid. With a nod of her head, she encouraged her old Portion Master to down the drink. Tonks watched as Severus swallowed down the syrupy liquid He gave a slight shutter as the potion surged through his body.

“I…I don’t have a wand,” he stated quietly.

He wanted to swish his old, reliable wand, to feel the cool smooth wood in the palm of his hand and feel his magic flow into it.

“That’s all taken care of. We have a wand maker waiting for you in the living room,” Tonks explained as she left the room.

Severus tried to move, but found his legs unwilling to cooperate. He looked irritatingly at his legs and cursed them for not listening to him.

Tonks peered around the door and asked, “Aren’t you coming?”

“My legs seem to have a mind of their own and are not willing to listen to reason,” he explained.

Snorting back her giggle, Tonks took a hold of Severus’s hand, and with a little encouragement was able to maneuver him back into his bedroom.

“I’ll give you a few a few moments of privacy to dress. Would you like me to come back or do you…?” she asked.

“I am capable of finding the living room on my own, thank you,” Severus replied with a snarl.

An elderly Hindu man met Severus in the living room, bowing deeply and graciously in greeting. There were few wrinkles on the dark skinned wand maker ,but his thick silver hair gave a hint to the man’s true age. His eyes, though black as his own, reminded Severus of the way Dumbledore’s eyes use to twinkle a lifetime ago. Severus shook his head, trying to toss the image of Dumbledore from of his mind.

“It is a great pleasure to meet the famous Severus Snape. My name is Ci and I have come to guide you in you quest to find the perfect wand for you,” he once again bowed deeply.

Severus looked about the room and was extremely disappointed not to see a selection of wands displayed. Instead he saw layers of different kinds of parchments. Severus knew that the kind of wood that made up the parchment was almost as important as the magic that was written on them. His thoughts were interrupted when the smaller wand maker placed his hand on Severus’s elbow and led him to low lying table with an huge assorted of items covering it.

“Please do not study the table,” Ci ordered firmly but gently, “I want no preordained idea to settle in your mind as what the core of your wand should be. What I do want is to open yourself up and let your magic flow freely from you.”

“Sir, I have no idea what you are babbling about. Where are the wands? I am anxious to try my regained magic,” Severus could hear Ci mumble softly ‘Westerners’.

“Please be patient. I promise that within the hour you will have a wand tailored only for you. Now please close your eyes and ‘try’ to open up your magic chakra to nature,” with that he pressed firmly into a spot that was slightly above Severus’s navel. The Potions Master gasped as his whole body started to tingle with magic.

“Good, good, your magic is very strong indeed,” Ci whispered, knowing that at the moment that Severus would be hypersensitive.

Ci guided Severus’s hand over the table repeating a magic mantra over and over again. Lost in his own world, Severus swayed precariously from side to side, the firm hand of the wand maker the only thing preventing Severus from falling.

Time was lost and Severus found himself on reclined on the couch with a warm throw over him when he became once again aware of where he was.

“Ah, Professor Snape, I was starting to worry about you. I never had a client that was so affected by my spell before. How do you feel?” Ci walked over and helped Severus to sit up.

The only response Severus could think to give was “alive”, but the word got caught in his throat.

“I have been busy while you rested,” Ci explained, placingSeverus’s new wand into his opened hand.

Severus gasped. The smooth ebony wood felt as if it was apart of him and an extension of his arm.

“The parchment you choose was the strong and enduring Redwood. The core is what your magic called out for—a scale from a dragon, fearless and dangerous; a feather of an owl, a universally known icon of intelligence; and a single drop of unicorn blood.”

Severus’s heart stopped. The use of Unicorn blood was abominable. Only the most wicked of Wizards would ever consider using the blood of the most pure of creatures. Was he so wicked that his magic called out that for the blood of a unicorn?

“Severus, please take a breath. I forget sometimes about the difference between our cultures. The blood is given freely by the unicorn. Even we are of afraid of the effect on our soul if we harmed this precious gift from the gods, but when given freely, unicorn blood can be used without restraint in magic. To have your magic call out for the blood of a unicorn only means that you have a rarity that few wizards have…a pure heart,” Ci explained.

Severus scoffed--he was sure of one thing and that was he was not pure of heart.

“Believe what you will, Severus Snape, but the wand you hold so lovingly is apart of you. It will understand your intent without a word being spoken. Stand and try the wand. I believe you will be pleasantly surprised by the results,” Ci waved him ahead to give it a try.

Standing slowly, Severus looked about the room. He saw a quill across the room on a desk. Before he could speak the words he was taught from childhood the quill drifted across the room to hover before the tip of his raised wand.

“Potter!” Severus yelled.

He rushed passed Ci and into the garden and looked to see Harry high above him. Without speaking, he raised his wand and wished for Harry’s Firebolt to land. At first the young wizard was startled that his broom was no longer listening to his commands, but once he saw Severus standing below him with his wand pointing up at him he understood that his ex-Professor had his magic back. He couldn’t hold back the smile as his broom touched down.

Walking until they were toe to toe, Severus combed his fingers through Harry’s wind-blown hair and pulled him into a passionate kiss. The hoots and hollers from the children that surrounded them were lost to the two men.

Finally breaking away from the Boy Wonder, Severus dropped to his knees.

“I, Severus Snape, pledge my life and my wand to the service of Harry James Potter. Wherever he goes, I will follow until Dumbledore is removed from power and the Slytherins regain what is rightfully theirs,” Severus vowed.

“And what then Severus?” Harry asked drawing Severus back to his feet. “Will you follow me afterwards?”

Harry pulled on Severus’s lapel and drew him closer until their lips nearly touched.

“We will see, Potter,” Severus nibbled on Harry’s lower lip before he continued. “I still don’t approve of you being a Dark Lord and I will never follow one…but you Potter, I’ll follow you.”

He ran a long finger around Harry’s lips before drawing him in for another kiss.

Remus and Tonks gathered the snickering children and herded them into the house so the two men could have a few moments alone.

“Should we take this to the bedroom?” questioned Harry when the kiss ended.

“I want you Harry but…” Severus was still unsure.

“No ‘buts’, Severus. Not this time,” Harry slid his hand down until it cupped Severus’s hardening cock. “Let us take a moment in time to enjoy one another.”

“And when those moments are gone then what?” asked the older man.

“We will deal with it,” Harry entwined his fingers with Severus, “but for now…bed.”

Harry led the way.
