Chapter Ten
(I want to have all of these chapters typed up and edited so I can write more, so there will prob be more frequent updates in the next week. I’m going to try to type and edit all of what I already have written by the time the book comes out. THE 7th BOOK!!! OMG! *done with spaz*)
Everyone looked at the spot Jo had been sitting, not realizing that she had been there moments before.
Snape had been the only teacher to see what happened and shot out of his chair and moved to where Dumbledore sat and whispered in his ear what had happened.
Albus muttered the word ‘portkey’ under his breath and rose from his chair and held up his hand and the hall quieted down.
“Everyone, please go to your next class. Your teachers will be along very shortly,” he paused as he watched the students start to walk out, “Ms. Ross, please come up here,” he asked of the first year who had gasped.
All of the students shuffled out, many grabbing the last bits of food before they left. Ellen Ross on the other hand grabbed her stuff, looking very scared at being called out in front of all her classmates and walked to the staff table.
Dumbledore had told all of the teachers besides the four heads to go to their classes. McGonagall was tapping her fingers on the table, looking worried. Snape on the other hand looked impatient, his eyes on the spot Elizabeth had been moments before.
He then for some reason decided the first year was moving to slowly, though it had only been seconds since she had gotten up from her seat, “Hurry up Ms. Ross! You are always quite in a hurry to get out of my class, after putting ingredients in your cauldron too early. And yet you chose today to be slow!”
Ellen practically ran the next few feet, Filius Flitwick frowning at Snape for scaring the girl so much.
“Do you have any idea what happened Ms. Ross?” asked Dumbledore quietly to the small girl.
“I, I don’t know sir. She got a letter, I was watching because one of my friends was telling her about Ron breaking up with her. So I looked over. She looked rather confused at her letter, like she didn’t understand it. She read the note quickly and then poured something from inside the envelope into her hand… and was just gone. The letter turned to dust as well! It was crazy… like…”
“Magic. Yes. Thank you, your done,” said the very annoyed potions master.
“Thank you very much Ms. Ross, now hurry to your defense against the dark arts class,” replied a kind McGonagall.
She nodded and quickly moved out of the room. When she was out the door, the five adults started to talk.
“Why her? Or was it random?” squeaked little Flitwick.
“Was it You-Know-Who Albus, or someone else?” asked Minerva, her head tilted down, her glasses on the tip of her nose.
“Minerva, being scared of saying a name is…”
“Albus,” said Snape, finally turning to look at his colleagues, “I don’t believe now is the best time for a lecture on saying the Dark Lord’s name,”
Dumbledore raised a finger like a comedy character does when they have an idea or realize something, “Right! Of course, the problem of Ms. Draven... hum… this is quite a dilemma,” the twinkle in Dumbledore’s eye left it and he frowned. He placed his hands together in front of him, and finally after a long while he spoke, “Pomona and Filius, return to your classes. I need to speak with Minerva and Severus alone. If I need you, I shall send a note with one of the house elves”.
The two teachers stood, Sprout looked worried and wishing she could somehow help more.
Flitwick on the other hand, who was of course head of Ravenclaw, took a more practical approach in his thoughts. He was trying to figure out why Severus stayed- obviously Minerva because she was head of Gryffindor. But Severus made no since.

Back in the Great Hall, Dumbledore’s voice was more rushed, his mind thinking very quickly.
“Minerva, I need for you to alert the order that not only is one of our students taken from this school, then---“
“How was she taken though,” Minerva asked, annoyed that it was never explained.
“It seems that the death eaters have taken her with a portkey, they have obviously found a cloaking device so that we couldn’t detect it in the letter. Therefore the owl was able to get into---”
“DAMNIT Albus! This school is supposed to be protected! This should not have happened!” Snape then yelled.
Minerva’s eyes grew wide at him, “Severus, why act like this, she’s not even from your hou—“
“Minerva,” Snape said, his voice tense, trying to calm down, “she had still been my student for the last seven years”.
Dumbledore watched the two of them, and when there was a pause in the talking, he spoke again, “As I was saying, alert the order Minerva. Severus, you stay.”
“Alone?” McGonagall asked and stood, “It’s just as well, my second years will most likely have turned my classroom upside down,” she inclined her head, “I’ll send out the word right after I get my class started,”
“From your last report to me, it very much seemed that the Dark lord still put full trust in you. Therefore, if this crime was his doing then---“
“You know as well as I that it was him or one of his death eaters,” Snape said to Dumbledore bluntly, who sighed and looked up over his half moon glasses.
“Why though? If it was about taking students to prove his power- I understand. But then why her?”
“Isn’t it obvious? First off she is a Gryffindor in Potter’s year, who, if I have my student gossip correct- spent part of the summer at the Burrow… with Potter.”
“Yes… yes…” said Dumbledore, thinking. “But then why didn’t they simply take Mr. Weasley or Ms. Granger?”
Snape just took a deep breath, “Because they would have no fun with Mr. Weasley, and when it comes to Granger vs. Draven… well lets just say the death eaters might have some more fun.”
Dumbledore looked angry, “Let’s hope that it’s not that. Okay, go. Tell them that I sent you on a mission- as I’m sure they’ll assume I would do. Tell them whatever you want, just protect her Severus,” he looked almost frantic and powerless. He then stood, “I’m going to go call on Alaster and the Weasley Twins. Maybe the three of them could work together to find a better way to scan mail for portkeys.”
Snape stood as well and headed in the opposite direction and walked out of the oak front doors of Hogwarts, and headed straight for the gate. When he was outside Hogwarts grounds he touched his dark mark.
