Poor Ferret!

Please let me know what you think. This is my first fan fic that I have written and I worry that people are not liking the direction that it is going in. I must say, that personally I am very much enjoying writing this, and I am trying to write quickly as I hate reading a fan fic and the author takes forever to update. I was going to wait awhile to update, to see if I would get any more reviews, but I decided to update anyway. PLEASE!!! REVIEW!!

Hermione sat curled on the sofa reading a new book she had just picked up from Flourish and Blots. Her mind was not really into it though. George had distracted her with his parting words and she was still trying to mull them over in her mind to make sense of them.

“Is it an interesting book?” Harry asked her sinking down into the overly soft cushions in the couch next to her.

“I’m not really even reading it. I can’t concentrate!” she said slamming the book down.

“Do you need to talk?” he asked in concern.

“Maybe you can help me. George said something strange when he left and I am still trying to understand what it meant. He told me that he had been looking forward to our wedding night for the past three years. How can that be? We’ve only been engaged for a day, and before that we have barely even interacted with each other. Why would he say something like that?”

Harry looked at Hermione and tried not to laugh. For being the brightest witch ever born, she was very stupid. How could she have missed the looks that George gave her? How could she have missed how he followed her from room to room? How could she have missed the way that he wore his heart on his sleeve for the world to see when ever she was around? He even remembered one time when she left her sweater lying on the sofa he picked it up an smelled it and kept it clutched tightly in his hand until Hermione had came back for it again. “He has had a crush on you for years, Hermione.” Harry told her.

Hermione was shocked. “No way! You are so off. He and I never have even had a normal conversation. He barely speaks!” she said shaking her head.

“He barely speaks, because he is afraid of you. If I don’t miss my guess, I would say that he is even in love with you. He has just been waiting for a chance for you to notice him. He is quieter than Fred, and he is definitely more patient. I bet he would have waiting the rest of his life for you if he had to!”

“I think that you are wrong. I figured that he was just trying to be funny. I keep waiting for him to come back and give me the punch line. You know he is always trying to pull one over on someone. He is probably hoping that I would take his comment the wrong way just so that he could have a good laugh over it at suppertime with Fred! I know that must be it!” she said. The more she thought of it the more she was sure that’s what it was.

“So what are you going to say to him about it then?” Harry asked.

“Why nothing. I am just going to pretend like he never said a word. That way he can’t embarrass me with some stupid prank later.”

Harry just shook his head. He felt sorry for George. It would take a lot to convince to Hermione that George really was in love with him.

“So where’s Ginny?” Hermione asked him.

“She’s resting. She’s been extremely tired lately. I read that it was normal in the first trimester though.” He said tying not to appear worried. The whole pregnancy thing was a bit of shock to him. First you spend your entire morning puking, then you eat everything in sight, and then you take a nap, only to get up and do it all over again.

Hermione nodded. “I thought that I might pop out and get an ice cream, would you like to go with me?” she knew that Harry loved ice cream almost as much as Quidditch.

“Yeah, lets go!”

“I love chocolate,” Harry said licking a cone as they sat in the front of Wicked Flavors Ice Cream Parlor. “The only thing better is Peppermint!”

Hermione laughed at him. He had a huge cone filled with two enormous scoops of both chocolate and peppermint ice cream. She didn’t know how he could always put away so much ice cream in one sitting and never gain a single ounce. Some people had all the luck!

“Hermione! Harry!” a female voice called to them from across the street. It was Katie Bell coming towards them.

“Katie!” Hermione said with a smile. “Hi! How are you doing?”

“What does it look like we are doing, Mudblood?” a voice sneered from behind her.

Katie swirled around and whipped out her wand. “ I warned you what I would do if you insulted another one of my friends today, Malfoy!” she said shooting a silver light out of her wand. Soon Malfoy was transfigured into a little white ferret. Bending down and scooping him up she put him into her bag. “Some people just don’t listen do they?” she asked as she zipped the bag up.

Harry and Hermione starred at her with their mouths hung wide open. Both of them had dreamed of doing the same thing to him, but had never actually had the nerve to follow through with it on their own.

“Is that safe to put him in there like that?” Hermione asked. She could hear his high-pitched noises that he was making. She didn’t like Draco Malfoy very much, but she didn’t want to see him die of suffocation at the bottom of Katie’s bag.

“I’ll let him out in a minute. I just wanted to prove my point to him. I will not tolerate his high handedness or his snide comments to any of my friends. He even had the nerve to tell me that once I had the Malfoy name I couldn’t associate with any Muggle born’s any longer. Like that pompous git could ever tell me what to do!”

“Uh, Katie, I think maybe you should let him out now,” Harry said concerned. The bag had suddenly gone quiet.

“Mmm,” she said looking down at her bag. “Maybe you’re right.” She unzipped the bag and pulled a nearly comatose ferret from inside. “I guess I left him in there a bit to long. What should I do?” she asked in horror. She started shaking the ferret up and down and Harry and Hermione watched as his little head bobbed back and forth.

“Katie, let me have him!” Hermione shrieked.

Quickly Katie handed the ferret over to Hermione. Gently setting him down in the empty chair next to him she pointed her wand at him and muttered a spell. Immediately Malfoy turned back to himself and slumped down to the ground. “Invenerate!” Hermione shouted at the unconscious man.

“What, what…” he stuttered as he woke up and pulled himself back up into the chair. “What did you do to me?” he shouted at Katie. “You almost killed me! How dare you! Do you know what my father would do if he heard about this?” he shouted at his bride to be.

“Oh please, Draco, he would probably reward me for giving him a moments peace in his life. He is probably as sick of listening to you sniveling as I am. Lets go, I have had all I can take of you today!” she said. “I will see you guys later!” she said to Harry and Hermione.

“Bloody hell!” Harry said. “You know, I have dreamed of doing that for years, but I really was worried that she killed him. As much as he drives me insane, I really didn’t want to see him dead.”

“Yeah, me neither. I wouldn’t want to be in Malfoy’s shoes in that relationship. One way or another, she is going to make sure he pays for that stunt he pulled in sixth year with that necklace.”

“I am going to thank the god’s every day that I have Ginny and I didn’t have to go through with this marriage lottery. God only knows who I would have been stuck with!”

“Watching that makes you realize how much you appreciate life when something good happens. Lets get back; I want to talk to George. I have decided that I am quite grateful for him also!”

Apparating back into the house Hermione and Harry were both lost in their own thoughts. Harry immediately went to find his wife and Hermione went to see if she could track George down. She hadn’t seen him since he had raced after Fred. Maybe they were both still at Pansy’s house.

“Hermione! There you are! I have been looking everywhere for you! George just floo’d and said that Fred and Pansy are getting married today, and he wants us all to get over to the Parkinson’s Manor immediately. Apparently Cornelius Fudge is going to officiate the ceremony.” Molly said pulling Hermione into a quick hug.

“What! Why are they doing it now? How did Fred get Pansy to agree to that?” she asked stunned.

“Apparently, she doesn’t even know yet. Her father and Fred worked it all out. Hurry, I don’t want to miss this!”

“The wedding or the fireworks?” she asked thinking that Pansy was definitely going to blow Fred up when she found out.

Molly smiled in a way that reminded Hermione of her twin son’s. “Both!”

“Is everyone else coming?”

“No, just you and I and Arthur. Fred said to keep it small because he wasn’t sure how Pansy was going to respond and he didn’t want her to upset everyone else. George wants you to be there to stand up with him.”

“Does he think that he and I are going to marry now?” Hermione asked incredulously.

“Who knows what goes through that boys head. He is not one to share his thoughts. I would think that he would be a bit more considerate of your feelings considering how he’s always felt about you. Hurry, lets go!”

“Wait! What do you mean, how he’s always felt about me?”

Molly looked deep into the eyes of her future daughter-in-law. She couldn’t possibly have been that naïve. “Hermione, surely you know?”

Shaking her head, Hermione said “Know what?”

“George is in love with you, and has been for years!”

“No!”
