Chapter 10

Merry Christmas

Draco grimaced as he felt his head pounding in the back of his skull, he groaned in pain as he heard a soft knock on his door. Draco grumbled a “come in” and then put his hands over his head as it pounded even louder and buried his head further into the pillow.

“Draco?” Hermione whispered, knowing that his head would be pounding like a bass drum.

“Shhh” He whispered, and then opened one eye to see her holding something out in her hand to him. His eyes went wide as he realised that it was a hangover potion, instantly he bolted up in bed but instantly regretted it when the pain invaded his head. Clutching his head in pain he closed his eyes willing the pain to go away.

“How do you not have a hangover?” Draco whispered and then he heard Hermione giggle.

“I don’t get them.” Draco opened his eyes and scowled at her, envying her.

“I have something for you.” She whispered and waved the small bottle in her hand at him, Draco reached out for it but Hermione pulled it away and pointed to her lips. Draco smirked and pulled her waist towards him so she was sprawled across his bed so he could place a kiss on those beautiful peach lips of hers. Before Hermione could get into the kiss he pulled away and skilfully slipped the bottle out of her hand and downed the potion before Hermione could say anything. Hermione scowled at him as he drank the potion down and then smirked at her, his grey eyes twinkling in mischief.

“Well, now that you’re feeling better…….” Hermione said but was cut off by Draco’s lips crashing down on hers. Moaning in delight Hermione wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer, letting her fingers run through his silken blond locks. Breathlessly they pulled away, letting their foreheads rest against one another.

“Merry Christmas baby.” Draco whispered before pressing a soft brief kiss onto her lips once more before pulling away. He pulled away from Hermione and pulled out the all ready wrapped present from his leather duffel bag. Presenting the golden wrapped present to her, a glittering snow flakes design all over the golden paper that was elegantly finished off with a golden ribbon wrapped around the rectangular present. Hermione’s eyes lit up when Draco presented the gift to her.

“Is that mine?” She whispered to Draco, chuckling he nodded and placed the present into her hands. Biting the corner of her lip she carefully pulled at the bow on the ribbon and opened the golden wrapper.

“Oh my god!” Hermione gasped as she saw the gift Draco had given her. Carefully she opened the old leather bound book, the smell of leather invading her nose. It was a first addition of Hogwarts: a History, Hermione was speechless.

“What? When? How?” She gasped not knowing how he got hold of such a rare book for her. Draco chuckled at her reaction to the gift he had given her for Christmas.

“When I went back to the Manor to sort things out, I looked through our library and I found it, and the first person that came to mind who was perfect for this book was you.” Draco said, as a smile played across his lips. Hermione looked back down at the book in her hands and then back at Draco, she was so stunned she didn’t know what to say.

“I think this is the first time you have ever been quiet for more than 30 seconds.” Draco teased. Hermione leaned forward and brushed a soft kiss upon his lips then pulled away. Delving into the pocket of her pink fluffy dressing gown she pulled out a neatly wrapped silver and green box. Draco’s eyebrow lifted questioningly.

“Is this for me?” He asked. He didn’t really expect anything from anyone this year. He had no family left and his parents were gone, he just expected no presents this year but then his little Gryffindor had surprised him hadn’t she?

“Merry Christmas, Draco.” Hermione said softly as Draco took the small box from her tiny hands. Hermione bit her lip nervously, not sure he would like the gift or not.

“I saw it in a shop and thought of you, if you don’t like it I can take it back. I mean…” Hermione was stopped her mumbling when Draco’s lips crashed down on hers.

“I will love it.” He whispered before pulling open the silver and green wrapping paper, opening the small box in his hands he opened the present and saw the silver ring with a shining emerald in the centre with twin snake heads either side of the stone. Draco looked up at Hermione speechlessly, not knowing what to say.

“Do you like it?” Hermione asked nervously, biting her bottom lip anxiously. Draco blinked away his tears and pulled her towards him.

“I love it Hermione.” He whispered into her ear before hugging her closer, but before they could go any further there was a banging on the door.

“Get up!! Now!” Gary screamed at the other side of the door before huffing and walking off down the stairs. Draco smiled and got up pulling Hermione with him.

“Lets go.” He said pulling her out of the room and then down the stairs.

Draco watched as more of the Granger family came into the living room. Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and Grandparents poured into the small house. Draco felt a pain in his heart as he watched all of Hermione’s family embrace her, of all his 18 years of existence he had never been blessed with anything like this. No Aunts and Uncles to hug him and wish him a Merry Christmas, no cousins to share all his new Christmas toys with.

No one.

Christmas in the Malfoy Manor had always been quiet, in the morning he would open his presents from his parents and then in the afternoon would be a large feast that had been prepared but with no conversation at the dinner table. Christmas, for Draco, had always been kind of boring, before he never really fully understood the Muggle holiday and why they loved it so much. But now, now he understood; all the lights and the food and the presence of love overfilling the room. Christmas was about family, and for Draco, he now understood why having such a big family was truly such a good thing. Why people treasured having so many family members. He was pulled out of his musings when Hermione nudged him in the ribs.

“Draco” Hermione hissed at him, Draco frowned at her but then realised someone had been talking to him while he had been in a day dream.

“I said, who’s this handsome young man?” Hermione’s Grandmother asked.

“Hello ma’am my name is Draco Malfoy, nice to meet you.” Draco said and held out his hand. Hermione’s grandmother placed her bony hands either side of his face and pulled him down so she could place a kiss on his cheek. Hermione tried to hold back her laugh when she saw Draco’s face.

One of complete and utter confusion and embarrassment, his pale cheeks flushing a deep colour of pink, in embarrassment as Hermione’s grandmother kissed him.

“Grandma Jane” Hermione said pulling her away from Draco and placing her in the nearest chair.

“Ohh dear, you look more and more beautiful each time I see you.” She said before placing a kiss on Hermione’s cheek.

“Thanks Gran. Now sit here and I will get you some tea.” Hermione said before placing a kiss on her grandmother’s forehead and heading to the kitchen to get her Gran a hot cup of English tea.

Draco couldn’t say that he had ever experienced anything like that in his entire life. An elderly woman had just pulled him down and placed a kiss on his cheek, not even his own mother had ever done that without his consent. Taking one look at Hermione’s face, which was evidently trying to hold back a laugh, Draco scowled. Then he looked back at the elderly woman who was currently sitting down in a comfy chair with a warm cup of tea in her hands and a plate of home made cookies, sitting in her lap. Hermione watched Draco as he looked back at her grandmother with a strange expression upon his face. She couldn’t be sure but it looked like he was looking at Grandma Jane with awe?

Hermione was pulled out of her musings by a certain little someone tugging on her jeans. Looking down she saw her 4 year old cousin tugging at her jean leg, clearly wanting Hermione’s attention. Crouching down so she was eye level with little Annie, Hermione gave the 4 year old girl a bright smile.

“What’s up baby?” Hermione asked before scooping up with brown haired girl into her arms.

“Who’s that?” She whispered loudly then pointed at Draco, Hermione laughed and looked at Draco.

“He’s one of my school friends.” Hermione responded to the little girl’s question.

“Are you like mummy and daddy?” She asked before sticking one of her thumbs inside her mouth and letting the other hand play with one of the curls hanging around her angelic face.

“Ummm….” Hermione didn’t know what to say. How could she answer such a question like that?

“No, Draco and I are not like your mummy and daddy,” She responded.

“But he looks at you, like daddy looks at mummy.” The little girl retorted, Hermione’s eyes widened at Annie’s observation, Bloody hell, what do I say now?

“Well, Annie, it’s complicated. Draco and I aren’t like your mummy and daddy but we are boyfriend and girlfriend.” Hermione said biting her lips nervously, not knowing whether she had just said that to a girl who is 4 years old.

“Ohh, I understand. Jake and Katie at my nursery are boyfriend and girlfriend. But boys are just urgggg. They’re ewww, I don’t know why you do it.” Annie said voicing her very mature opinion about adults and their dating habits.

“Can we go play in the snow? I want to make snow angels?” Annie asked, her mind now forgetting the conversation they had just had moments ago, Hermione smiled and placed a loving kiss on top of the child’s’ head before shifting her grip on Annie.

“You know that boy,” Hermione said to Annie and pointed at Draco “ If you want to go play in the snow and make snow angels, if you ask him really nicely he’ll take you.” Hermione said. Annie looked at her and frowned, unsure if what Hermione was telling her was the truth.

“You sure?” The four year old asked, Hermione nodded.

“I promise.” Hermione vowed and placed the child onto the floor. Annie looked at Draco and walked over to him and tugged on his impeccable Italian made slacks.

“Mister,” Annie said to him, Draco looked down to see Annie tug at his trousers, unsure of what to do, Draco just stared at the little girl.

“Mister, Hermione said, if I asked you real nice you’d take me out to play in the snow before dinner,” Annie said then gave him a cute little smile. Draco’s grey eyes lifted in search of Hermione, he gave her a pointed glare when she just smiled at him innocently and walked off.

“Ummm,” Draco began.

“Please, please!! I just wanna make snow angels.” Annie asked, before placing her thumb into her mouth and twirling a piece of hair around her finger.

“Sure, let’s ask your mum and dad first and then we can put on your coat and me and Hermione can take you out. Okay?” He asked, Annie squealed in delight before launching her tiny little body towards Draco and giving him a tight hug.

“Thanks, you’re the best.” She squealed, Draco uncomfortable awkwardly put his arms around the tiny girl and gave her a hug. Uncomfortable with this amount of intimacy, and his lack of experience with children made it even worse. Annie jumped out of his arms and ran with her little feet towards her mother.

Hermione watched the scene unfold in front of her eyes; she just couldn’t help but admit that Draco would make a wonderful father. She laughed as she could imagine him being protective over his daughters and not wanting them to date till they were 40 or something ridiculous like that. She was pulled out of her thoughts as Draco walked towards her.

“That was wrong of you, and you know it.” Draco scolded her, Hermione let out a little giggle.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t resist. But you must admit you handled little Annie petty well?”

“I know, I’m surprised. I mean I’ve never really been around children before. I guess…………it came natural,” Draco admitted, Hermione smiled and placed a quick kiss onto his cheeks.

“You’ll make a wonderful father.” Hermione admitted, but before Draco could say anything else Annie was heading towards them with her cream coat wrapped around her, her tiny cream mittens already on her hands, her little wool hat over her ears and her fluffy cream ear muffs already over her ears.

“Let’s go!!” She screamed in happiness at the pair before bolting off towards the door.

~*~*~*~*~

Hermione led all her little cousins outside, Bobby was currently holding her right hand and Tim was holding tightly to her left hand. They looked at all the clean, crisp snow that was just begging to be played in.

“Okay kids, we got one hour to play before we have to clean up and get ready for Christmas dinner.” Hermione said to them before letting go of their hands. The kids launched into the fresh snow, picking up clumps and playfully throwing it one another. Hermione turned around and out came Draco with Annie and Lucy, both children let go of Draco’s hand and also launched into the untouched snow, laying back and flapping their arms and legs in order to make snow angels.

“Hermione,” Hermione turned around to see her Aunt May holding out a pink bundle, Hermione walked towards her Aunt and took the baby into her hands. 11 month baby Mia looked at Hermione with her green eyes.

“Take her while the kids play, she’s all wrapped up so don’t worry. Just bring her back in 20 minutes or so.” Her Aunt said before closing the back door and headed back into the warmth. Hermione smiled at the little bundle in her hands. Draco wandered over beside her to look down at the baby.

“Hello baby. I’m your cousin Hermione, and this is Draco.” Hermione cooed at the baby while holding one tiny mittened hand inside her larger gloved hand.

“Hermione!!” Lucy squealed “Come play with us!” She screamed. Hermione looked back at the children. Bobby and Tim were currently in the process of making a snow man, and Lucy and Annie were in the process of having a snow ball fight.

“Here, can you take her?” Hermione asked Draco. Draco’s eyes went wide, talking to a 4 year old kid was one thing, but holding a tiny baby in his hands was another.

“No way! I can’t!! What if I drop her?” He demanded, Hermione slowly approached him, her eyes all-big and innocent.

“Please?” She asked her eyelashes fluttering.

“No way Granger!” He hissed, not wanting to hurt the tiny child in her hands. What if I dropped her?

“Look, stop being such a girl! Open your arms and slowly take Mia, okay?” Hermione insisted, not taking any of his crap. Draco glowered at her and then reluctantly opened his arms; slowly Hermione approached him and placed the baby into his arms showing him how to support the baby’s head in his hands. Slowly pulling away Hermione looked at the sight before her; Draco looked like a natural, although at the moment he did look awfully scared of the child in his arms.

“She won’t bite Draco. Now if she starts to cry,” Hermione watched his head snap up and stare at her wide eyed and scared out of his wits.

“If she starts to cry, just rock her, okay?” She asked.

“No.” He insisted, Hermione sighed and placed a loving kiss on his lips, Baby Mia in the middle of them.

“You’ll be fine.” She promised before heading off to play with Lucy and Annie.

Draco stared down at the child in front of him, what the hell was he supposed to do now?

Draco cleared his throat.

“Hello, I’m Draco Malfoy,” Draco said to the baby. Baby Mia just gave him a confused looked, sighing he closed his eyes and looked back at the tiny child in his arms.

“You’re so tiny,” He whispered to the baby, unconsciously rocking his body side to side.

“And so cute, I mean look at the cute little button nose and all that curly brown hair. Looks like the Granger hair is hereditary, I just hope like hell our kids don’t have her hair” Draco chuckled to himself but abruptly stopped.

Their kids?

“What the hell?” He whispered to himself.
