Ch. 9 Confrontation and Conversation
Chapter 9: Confrontations and Conversation.
After a dinner that didn’t involve anything interesting, Harry made his way to the office of his old friend, teacher, and confidant Professor Remus Lupin. He knocked on the door and it opened almost instantly to the smiling, slightly weathered face of the only father figure Harry had left. Lupin welcomed Harry into the office and gripped him in a bone-crushing hug. They stayed in that position for a long time until Harry finally stepped back smiling. “I’m glad you’re back Remus. I‘ve missed you dearly.”
“I’m glad to be back Harry, I’m so proud of you. You’re finally growing into your own skin I see.” Lupin indicated the muscular form that Harry had grown into over the holidays. “You should be happy Harry, you’re a free man now. No longer enslaved, in control of your own destiny.”
“Yeah, well, that’s not what my family and future children tell me,” Harry said sulkily.
“What are you on about?” So Harry told Lupin about his strange dream. He told about the little girl, and his grandfather and about his soul mate being right under his nose. And about him supposedly turning into a giant snake when he found his true love. And that his love could also transform into a lion, though that wouldn’t prove anything because there were lots of wizards that could change their shape on a whim and this was nothing.
“Well, Have you tried to transform into a giant snake?”
“No Lupin, is it too much to ask that I be a normal wizard now that my arch-nemesis is dead? Or must I continue to be abnormal for the rest of my life? If that was the case I should have let Voldemort kill me off in that cave!”
“Harry, I didn’t mean anything by that! I was just saying if you’re worried about this dream, then perhaps if you try it you won’t have to worry at all anymore. Perhaps it was just a dream!”
“I have to go Lupin. I need to get some sleep before tomorrow. Have a good night. Thanks for talking to me.”
“Pleasant dreams Harry, and do think about what I said. What’s the harm in trying?”
Harry walked out of Lupin’s office lost in his own thoughts, he was halfway to Gryffindor Tower before he remembered that he had to head to Slytherin instead. He stalked off toward the dungeons angrily, thinking the whole time about Draco. He hadn’t spoken more than two words to him since that little incident in their room. Why was he so angry about a joke? Why would he care whether or not I laughed at him? We’ve been doing this for ages! Draco has changed over the summer. He has become distant. And what was Snape talking about in his chambers earlier. What can Draco change into? I am going to ask him, and if he won’t tell me I will just sneak around till I find out. With his mind made up, he walked into his new room.
Draco was lying in his bed. He hadn’t attended dinner, he had come to his room to think. He was hurt that Potter thought he was funny and he was worried about what the twit had overheard in Snape’s room. I wonder what Potter would do if he walked into the room and saw a terrifyingly beautiful lion sitting on his bed. He would do what he did to Lupin’s door I’m sure. I wish I could show someone my true form. Draco sighed and rolled onto his side. He fell asleep thinking of Harry and how beautiful he was.
Draco was already asleep when Harry came into the room looking determined. Harry thought for a moment about waking him up and demanding answers but he just didn’t have the nerve. He sighed and put on his bed clothes. After dressing for bed he decided he wasn’t really all that tired, so he walked over to the reading nook and turned on the lamp. He settled in a chair to read but he couldn’t keep his mind from wandering, or his eyes for that matter. Draco lay on top of his blankets instead of between the sheets. His silky platinum hair was fanned out over his pillow and was catching the light from the lamp. Harry watched as the perfect plump pink lips parted slightly as Draco moaned in his sleep. The sound made chills run down Harry’s spine. Draco was either having a very good dream or a very bad one. Harry stood up and walked tentatively over to Draco’s bedside. He looked down upon the perfect chest , his eyes trailing down to the flat muscular stomach. The smooth, creamy, milk-white skin was glowing with a sheer gloss of perspiration. It almost looked as if Draco had been made out of the moon. Harry’s eyes trailed lower, over the perfect little dip of a belly-button, down the trail of white, almost invisible hair that disappeared out of sight into the waistband of Draco’s silk pants. Tonight they were a deep steel grey, almost the exact color of his eyes. “Beautiful.” Whispered Harry.
Draco moaned again, more of a whimper this time, and Harry was startled out of his thoughts. He thought that maybe this was a nightmare. Having experienced so many in his life he was a little like an expert on the subject. Draco’s delicate features twisted into a grimace and Harry knew that this dream was not good. He sat carefully on the edge of the bed and placed his hand on Draco’s clammy shoulder. He was instantly overcome with a feeling of longing. His heart started pounding and he started to sweat. He could feel the flush come into his cheeks and he felt a strange twinge in his stomach. Harry thought he was reacting to Draco’s dream. After all he had learned to be more empathetic over the summer and he was getting pretty good at telling what others were feeling.
Harry shook Draco gently by the shoulder and heard a low growl come from deep in the blonde’s throat. He shook a little harder and Draco slowly turned his head to face him. Harry softly called the sleeping boy’s name until he saw the eyelids flutter open. When Draco looked up at him Harry gasped. Those were not the eyes of the boy he knew. They were yellow and shining and had a diamond shaped pupil in the center. They were cat’s eyes!
Harry sat still in shock and watched as Draco’s eyes fluttered and closed again. The he saw the boys hands and the nails. Draco’s perfectly manicured nails were longer than they were earlier in the day. And much sharper. His hand wrapped gently around Harry’s waist and pulled him close. Harry struggled a little at first and then let himself be pulled against the sleeping boy. What the hell was going on? Harry allowed himself to be pulled down next to the shivering frame and felt a pang in his stomach when Draco snuggled his head into Harry’s neck. Harry relaxed a little at this point. Surely Draco wasn’t going to kill someone he was snuggling up against.
Harry allowed himself to enjoy the feeling of laying so close to someone else. The warmth Draco was giving off was unbelievable and Harry reveled in it. He closed his eyes and took in the scent of the boy clinging to him. Draco smelled of cilantro and lemon with a hint of mint. Harry was about to drift off to sleep when he heard an odd sound. Was Draco purring? Oh, well thought Harry, we’ll deal with all that tomorrow. And he drifted off to sleep feeling more comfortable and happy than he had ever been before.
