Last Chapter:

Harry had never really been a hateful person. Voldemort had stepped over the bounds though threw Harry over the edge of hate into something so much more. It was almost an obsession for him. He was going to make Voldemort pay for all that he did, for killing his parents, for killing Cedric and Sirius, for making him grow up without being a child. He was going to pay, no matter what it took, Harry was going to make him pay for it all. All the families that had been torn apart because of his hate, due to the fact that his muggle father never loved him or when his mother survived long enough to name him, it was stupid. Calming himself down, Harry walked into the Hospital Wing for his next class, closing the door behind him.

The first thing Harry noticed when he walked into the Hospital Wing was the small circle of chairs in the middle of the room. There had to be only about 10 chairs at the most. He quickly took a seat and took out some parchment, quill and ink for later and a book to read before the class began. He quickly tuned out everything while reading the book on Medical topics; until Madame Pomfrey cleared her throat to get everyone's attention.

“Ahmm… well now as all of you know I am Madame Pomfrey. I will be your instructor in Basic Medi-Wizardry. We will only be going into the basics, so if you come back next year you could start doing the Advanced Medi-Wizardry," she said, taking a breath. "This is an extra class and will not be on your N.E.W.T.s. If you rather not have extra work then I suggest you to leave now, otherwise, after this class is over, you will not have the opportunity to leave.” She stopped talking and looked into all the eyes of everyone of the room; no one moved out of their chair to leave.

“Ok, this will not be an easy class even if it is not part of your N.E.W.T.s. The things you learn in this class could very well save someone or your own life. So pay attention to when I am teaching or if we have a guest speaker. We have picked each of you, as you have either showed skill in the art of Medi-Wizardry or it has become a necessity for you to learn," she said, her eyes scanned to Harry. “The war with You-Know-Who has started and we must all do our best to keep everyone from getting hurt if we can help it,” she said, her face gave off a grim look. The faces around the classroom showed a look of being terrified, but Harry’s face showed no emotions.

“Some of the things I will be teaching are healing and calming charms. There will be some aspects of potions that you will learn to fix broken bones, burns, and cuts. I will also educate how decipher the symptoms and giving the best treatment. Other things you will learn when to use charms and not to use charm as some of the spells can very well worsen the injuries,” she said, clearing her throat.

“Now, you will be required to come in and do forty hours of work in the Hospital Wing on your own time. In that time, you will assist me in whatever I am doing or you could be making potions to add to the stocks if they are getting too low. But you must have all forty hours done before you begin N.E.W.T.s so I suggest you start as soon as possible.” She watched the student nodded at her and she smiled back at them. “Now to get started…”

She began walking them around the infirmary. “As most of you, know this is the main part of the infirmary.” She said pointing around at the beds that lined the walls. “These…” she said moving towards a set of doors at the end of the room, “are the private rooms. Mostly used for staff members or if a student comes in with an illness that is infectious. So we quarantine the room. There are two types of rooms. This one we are in now are for the teachers only.” The room was bright white as the rest of the infirmary and had the same kind of smell that had sterile and cleaning supplies in the air. This room though had the bed in one corner and then a connecting bathroom but also a desk so that the teacher could do work while in the room if they were well enough to do so but not well enough to leave. There was also a bookshelf so that the teacher could move some of their books in while they stayed there. “I don’t think most of you will have work in here. Most of the teachers, if they are sick, don’t allow students to look after them and I will be dealing with them unless I am extremely busy so be prepared that when I ask some of the top students in the class to help me out with them. Now on to the next room,” she said, moving out and they all fallowed her as she went to the next room.

This one had only a bed, a door leading to the bathroom, and a window so the person could look out over the lake. She spoke, gesturing to the room, “This room like is the same as the rest of the private rooms. This room if for student’s, as I’ve said, only to be used if the student have an infectious disease.”

Without another word, he again walked out and they trailed behind her. She walked to a door that was closed and near her office. She explained, “This is the potions closet,” she opened the door to the room. Before them, they saw shelves and shelves of different potion lining the walls. “Whenever you take out a potion, write down what you took on this list here. She pointed towards a small table with a long parchment scroll and ink and quill. I will be having one of you every week come in here and do a stock check of all the potions. If we need anymore I will have you take the order list for the week to Professor Snape so he can begin making the necessary potions. I will teach you to make those potions as well. So, when we are low and the professor is too busy to do one, you will be making them for your lessons or in the hours you need to have for this class.”

She turned to the class, her face stern, “Not to mention that I keep a clean hospital and it will stay that way. There is rules and procedures on how to deal with patients. I want you to all go sit down, take out parchment and quill, because this is very important to remember and I want you to write it down so you can memorize it later.” After they settled down and did what she said, the students waited for her to start talking so they could take notes. “First and most important is: before and after you deal with a patient, you must use an disinfectant charm on your self. So as not to get yourself, or another person sick, also so you don’t make things worse with your patient. I don’t care if all they ask you is for a quick healing spell or a potion for a headache. When dealing with some one who is not feeling sick; for the safety of them and you need to disinfect yourself. That is it for now for notes.” She said moving away again from them.

“Now come, I need to show you how to check in a student and also filing the papers away. The forms are over here.” She pointed towards a small desk that sat just outside on the wall next to her office door on the opposite wall as the door to the potions room. There was a stack of papers on the desk. She grabbed a stack and handed them out to the class. The papers tells a lot of places to fill out. The student name, why they are here for treatment, and what was done or given to them and when. She spoke, “You must put the time on there of when the students took their potions. As some of you might know, some potions, if taken at the wrong time can counteract with each other and it can have nasty consequences and you don’t want that. Before you give any student any kind of treatment ,you must ask me first, also you will have to look up the students file to see if they are allergic to any kinds of potions or ingredients. Every student has a file,” most of the students had a questioning look and stunned faces.

she smiled, “Yes, even if you have never been here, you have your own file. They are all in alphabetical order in the cabinets in my office. Just think of whom you are looking for and open the cabinet and it should be right there for you to get; but just remember to put it back. You need to take their folder and the paper you are holding and put the file on to one of the clipboards that are at the end of the bed. So that whoever is looking after the person will know what is wrong and what is being done to treat that person. One very important thing, you will not discuss anything you read and any of the files you pull out on anyone unless you are talking it over in this class on what would be a better way of helping the person to get better. If I get so much as a hint that anyone has been telling on a fellow student then I will tell the Headmaster and he will deal with this accordingly. The last consequences I heard was given two years in Azkaban for breaking patient’s confidentiality. You will also be expelled from school,” she said, and Harry saw how intense her face was and he wasn’t sure what to make of it, her face hadn’t been this harsh before. A couple of the students looked scared as though they were ready to turn and run as soon as they could. “Now get back to your seats and I will quickly go over everything again so you can take notes on it.

For the rest of the class, the students took notes on how the infirmy is run. The class was over before Harry knew the time ended. Madame Pomfrey told the necessary reading over the list of potions she handed out. “I want you to take notes of which potion you have learned making, and which of the potions you have not.”

Scanning the paper, Harry was surprised to learn that there were some he had yet to study. ‘Oh well, I will just do each of them later after I see Severus for potions,’ thought Harry. Harry walked toward Madam Pomfrey and waited for her to stop talking to one of the other students that he did not know; he waited so he could ask Madam Pomfrey a question. She turned towards him when she was finished and waited until he spoke.

“Madam Pomfrey. When can I start the forty hours? I want to start as soon as I can,” Harry asked she smiled at him kindly.

“Wanting to get them over with so you can get out of here as soon as possible?” she joked. “Well I would not blame you if that was the fact you have spent so much time in here over the years. But don’t worry for the first couple of weeks to start . Right now, you don’t know much yet to be of much help or have anything to then. I’ll make an announcement when I think you are all ready to begin working on your hours,” she smiled at him and he nodded. “Well dinner starts in a couple of hours, if you get going now you can start on my potions list and not have so much work later.” With that, she waved him off.

He left the infirmary and walked down one of the side halls where eh knew some unused classroom where. Looking around to make sure no one was looking, Harry slipped inside one of the unused classrooms. He took his trunk out of his pocket, quickly resizing it on the floor. He opened the trunk and quickly got in. He set all the things he would need out, Harry began reading the list that was given out by Madam Pomfrey and checked off which he knew. When he was finished, he looked over the list and counted. He realized that there was only about eight he did not know; they were more advanced potions that were for more extreme injuries.

He got out his books and the writing essentials and began to take notes on each different potion and how to make them.

Anti-Vercordia Drought: Is used to help stop a person from going insane. This potion does not always work, though in the case of people who are under the Cruciatus Curse too long this potion will not prove powerful enough to cure the insanity. Armadillo Bile is used for the base as well as Ginger Root extract. Moonstone plays an important role in this potion because it helps to balance emotions inside the mind.

Vacillus: Is used to stop shaking of the muscles and of the body. Hellebore it used to calm and to help stop the shaking.

Angorsine: A potion used to stop intense pain a person experiences in their muscles. Used for someone who is very sore or they have pulled a muscle in doing an activity. Billywig Stings are used to help relax the muscles and stop the pain.

Sigordax: This Potion is used for healing semi-cuts and dangerous cuts. One of the main potion ingredients is a bicorn horn powered.

Acutordax: This potion is used for more serious cuts. The difference between Sigordax and Acutordax is that the base of this potion is a Phoenix Tear and powered bicorn horn mix.

Diffusuro: Used for extensive burns. There are two ways to apply this portion whether you pour it on the burns or you could spray it. Ashwinder Eggs are used to make up the base of potion and Phoenix Tears are added to help heal the burns.

Deflonovo: This potion is used to grow back nails that have fallen off; have been hurt; and/or broken in some way. Salamander Blood is used to strengthen the nails so that when it is re-grown, the nails will be stronger.

Asperner: This like Pepper-Up Potion that is used to repel a cold. The difference between this and Pepper-Up Potion is that this does not make your ears smoke and is used when you don’t catch a cold with the Pepper-Up Potion. Powdered Graphorn is used as the base for the potion. Ashwinder Eggs is also used in this potion.

Harry figured that he would start his work on them later on; he did have until Friday for the next class so he would get in some good practice on each of them. Maybe then he could give some of them to the Hospital Wing for use. He was never going to use all of them, or he could just save them for when the war finally broke out—officially.

Harry vowed that one way or the other, this war would end this time around. He also swear that if he was to die, he would be taking Voldemort with him to his death or however this war would be ending.

Looking up from his work and his thoughts, he saw that he was only minutes away from having dinner being served; he would finish the work later. Packing his things, he then stepped out of his trunk, shrinking it and putting it in his pocket as he left the room and headed towards the Great Hall. Harry made his way to the doors of the Great Hall when a hand on his shoulder stopped him.

“Harry, are you quite all right?” Remus’ voice came from behind him.

“I’m fine Professor Lupin,” he replied, Harry’s voice was colder then it had once been towards his once second godfather.

“Are you sure? Your friends seem to think something is wrong with you. You quit Quidditch; the one thing you used to love to do. They tell me that you are not even talking to them and half of the time they can’t even seem to find you, it is like you just disappear whenever you’re not in class. Is this all about the end of last year with what happened at the Ministry and what happened to…” Harry cut him off before he said Sirius.

“Excise me, sir, but I really don’t see the problem with me wanting to be left alone or what right they have to talk about me with the others. So what if I quit Quidditch when I want to focus more on my schoolwork this year and this is what I am going to be doing. What I do with my time is my business and no one else’s,” he said, glaring at Remus. With that Harry turned on his heel and walked through the doors into the Great Hall, missing the wounded look on Remus’ face.

Harry was mad and he was just about ready to snap. He understood that they were worried but he needed them to know that this was his own choice. What right did they have for trying to tell him what he should do? Just because he was not going to play Quidditch, everyone was freaking out over it. He found his friends and looked at Ron and Hermione and began berating them.

“What gives you the right to meddle in my life?” asked Harry, Ron looked scandalized and Hermione looked a little guilty. “Telling Professor Lupin of what is my business. What right do you have?” Harry spat.

“Only that we have been your best friends since our first year! We are worried you’re not yourself, Harry!” Ron snapped back, his face as red as his hair.

“There is nothing wrong with me. I just grew up. Something you two seem incapable of doing. Life is not about Quidditch and who will win the stupid bloody House Cup or some measly test. There’s a war out there or have you forgotten. You either grow up or you end up dead. I don’t know about you, but I have plans for my life. So stay out of my way or I will make you,” Harry said, his voice cold his eyes was just as icy. He once again turned on his heel and walked of out of the not quite Great Hall.

Up at the head table, the Headmaster watched sad eyes, he watched as the young man walked out of the hall. He shook his head as if trying to dislodge the words Harry just spoke out of his mind. Severus sat stoned at the words of insight he just heard from Harry’s mouth.

‘He’s so young yet he seems so old inside. He had never got the chance to have a normal childhood, he… grew up way too fast for his own good,’ Severus pondered and sighed and went back to eating or at least trying to. The Great Hall was still silent, most had their heads down in thought and once a while, one or two look around at each other, but slowly as though they were afraid to break a spell that seemed to have fallen on the Great Hall, the talking started again all on the same latest subject: Harry Potter and what he said.

Harry stormed downstairs, briskly walking to the kitchens to get something to eat for dinner. He was just too upset to stay there and eat, plus he left everyone with something to think about, along with himself as well. Troubled thoughts made their way around his head; he just shook them off and started to go over some of the spells he knew in his head and over his weapons training, anything to keep the thoughts at bay for a time. ‘Come on, Harry don’t think about it; now stick to the plan. Learn everything you can to kill the bad guy so everyone lives happily. That’s it...’ Harry thoughts slowed and his steps evened out and slowed to a normal pace.

Noticing he was now standing outside of the kitchens; Harry reached his hand out and tickled the pear. The fruit gave off a soft laugh and the pear moved into a handle. Opening the door, a split second later, there was a loud squeak and then something or someone small was hugging him around his legs.

“Harry Potter has come to see Dobby!” Dobby the house elf cried, from some somewhere by Harry’s thighs.

“Hello Dobby. Do you think I could get a little food to eat down here, I don’t feel like eating up there in the Great Hall,” Harry said. Dobby let him go and Harry finally saw him. Harry observed that Dobby now wore the maroon sweater that Ron had shrunk for him last Christmas with the same pair of shorts and suspenders, plus his different pairs of mismatched socks hanging off his feet. Dobby always had wore the oddest things, his favorite being socks for obvious reasons relating back in his second year. Harry had always liked Dobby. He was a funny creature, always trying to help even if Harry preferred him not to.

“How is everything Dobby?”

“Oh… they is great, Harry Potter sir. I is now getting three galleons a week to buy yarn for the socks I is now making. I is giving some socks to Headmaster Dumbledore,” Dobby said beaming.

“That’s great Dobby. How’s Winky?” asked Harry.

“Oh…” his ears lagged down slightly, “she is doing a little better, Harry Potter sir. She is still missing her family but they is all dead now so that makes her sad, but she has not been drinking as much Butterbeer, Harry Potter sir,” Dobby said, ears flopped sadly. Harry’s dinner was served and he picked up his fork to eat.

“Oh… I’m sorry to hear that,” he said, biting into his dinner and after few minutes, he finished up. Harry knew it was time to meet with Severus for his extra lessons. “I have to go Dobby. I’ll come back down and see you some other time.”

“Oh Harry Potter is a great wizard coming to see Dobby,” Dobby gushed, but again before Harry could escape, Dobby had flung himself at Harry’s and was again hugging his legs. Once prying Dobby off his legs, Harry exited the kitchen and headed towards the dungeons where the Occlumency classes was to be held.
