The Order

**DISCLAIMER** All characters etc. belong to J.K. Rowling and I am making no money from this. Don’t sue because I’m sure that I don’t have anything that you’d want anyway. The basic plot for the story was a challenge presented by ArienAstera.

A/N – I would like to thank Shiv for graciously allowing me to use her idea of the time-delay tracking charm. The original use of this charm can be found in her wonderful, funny fic, Arithmantic Dating Agency. If you haven’t read it yet, I woulghlyghly recommend that you check it out, here is the link:

Fireblade – Thank you, you are absolutely correct. When I went back and re-read the last chapter, I realized that Polyjuice potion should not have lasted as long as it did. But that’s just a minor detail, forgive me? The first line of Chapter Nine is for you. *grins*

Chapter Nine – The Order

Severus apparated back to Malfoy Manor with only minutes to spare before the Polyjuice potion began to wear off. He went straight up to the bedroom to find a less than enthusiastic Lucius, still bound to the bed.

“What have you done to me Severus?” he snarled.

Severus pulled up a chair and looked mockingly at his old friend, “But Lucius, I always thought that you fancied these types of games. Aren’t you having fun?”

“Fuck you.”

“Your powers won’t be returning for quite some time, so I would suggest that you stop struggling before you hurt yourself. Besides, we need to have a chat.”

Even from his position on the bed, Lucius managed to look down his nose at Severus, “I don’t think that we really have anything to discuss. I know exactly who and what you really are, and it’s only a matter of time before the Dark Lord discovers you to be the traitor.”

“Perhaps that time has come sooner than you both thought.” A quite voice hissed from the doorway, taking both men by surprise.

Severus leapt from the chair, turning, and drew his wand, but before he had a chance to strike, a flash of yellow light hit him squarely in the chest and everything went black.

At Number 12 Grimmauld place, Arthur Weasley, Remus Lupin, Harry and Ron were engaged in a very animated debate over the past weekend’s Quidditch Match between Puddlemere United and the Wimbourne Wasps, when Albus Dumbledore’s head appeared in the flames, startling them all.

Remus grinned broadly, “Albus, perhaps you can settle this squabble for us-”

He was cut off abrubtly, “I’m sorry, but we have an urgent matter to deal with. Arthur and Remus, please notify the rest of the Order at once and have them come to the headquarters immediately. Lord Voldemort has been found.”

Harry and Ron looked at each other, eyes wide, “But how?” Harry managed weakly.

“Never mind that now, just please do as I have asked, I will see you shortly.” And with that, Dumbledore was gone.

Harry and Ron apparated to Diagon Alley to find Mrs. Weasley and Ginny while Arthur and Remus began summoning the rest of the Order.

Within one hour, the kitchen at Grimmauld Place was buzzing and Harry, Ron and Ginny attempted to remain inconspicuously in the corner as the meeting was called to order.

Dumbledore stood and the room fell silent, “Yes, yes, the rumor is true. Lord Voldemort has been located.” A quiet murmur rippled across the room and Dumbledore continued, “As you all know, Hermione Granger has been missing now for close to two years. There has never been any doubt that Voldemort was responsible for Miss Granger’s abduction and although we have searched for her tirelessly, we have always been led to a dead end. Tonight however, all of that has changed. You will notice that there is a member of the Order that is not among us this evening,”

Everyone looked around for a moment before Kingsley Shacklebolt announced, “Severus isn’t here.”

“Correct Kingsley.” Dumbledore nodded and proceeded to tell the rest of the Order about Severus’ continued plight to locate Hermione. He continued on, telling them that he had taken the liberty to cast a tracking charm on Severus when they had spoken the day before and had since been closely monitoring his whereabouts.

He explained that over the past few months, with Professor Flitwick’s help, they had developed a very advanced tracking charm. It was a very powerful charm with a time delay feature that worked by staying ineffective for a desired length of time, thus allowing the person who was being tracked to pass through even the strongest protective wards. Once the charm activated itself, the person could then be followed for as long as needed.

When Dumbledore finished speaking, a heavy silence shrouded the room. Harry looked at Ron in disbelief.

Remus spoke up, “So where is he now?”

Dumbledore sighed heavily and his blue eyes clouded with concern, “That is why I have called you all here. Last evening, Severus returned to Malfoy Manor and shortly after, the charm grew very weak. I believe that Severus may be in grave danger. We must act quickly.”
