Welcome to Hogwarts

Wow, my first (semi) published fan fic.... I need a beta for this so let me know if you want to help :) All critisism appreciated, though please keep in mind that I haven\'t got around to reading OotP yet, so some things may not be canon with the 5th book.

Some things may seem OOC, but isn\'t that what character development is for? We all know this isn\'t the real thing, just me fiddling with the puppets strings for a little while. It all really belongs to the wonder that is J. K. Rowling. But I won\'t tell if you don\'t ;) All I own is Thera and my cat for whom I\'ll fight to the death.

Draco snarled silently at the first years as they stepped one by one into the Great Hall, wide-eyed with anticipation and nerves. More filth to pollute his last year at this muggle-infested place.

Pity it was the best school England had. He would have given almost anything to go to Durmstrang, where Purebloods were given the respect they deserved and they didn’t force any contact with mudbloods whatsoever. Well, unless you counted the regular raids certain groups of students participated in.
Draco quietly chuckled at the thought of it. If only… but while Slytherin was definitely associated with the Dark Arts and the Dark Lord, none of its current members the the backbone or the initiative to even think about training or raiding or doing anything other then what their parents told them.

But no matter. One more year surrounded by these insufferable fools, then he’d be initiated and... well, he’d still be surrounded by insufferable fools, but by then they’d no longer have the option of ignoring him as they often did now. Crabbe and Goyle had had the distressing misfortune to succumb to the dubious charms of Millicent Bulstrode at the Halloween Ball the previous year and now, rather then spending their time catering to his every whim, they tended to follow her around like the dogs they were trying to have her choose between them. Unfortunately Millicent seemed to rather enjoy playing the two off against each other, which while amusing at times, still left him without his lackeys. Maybe this year he’d have better luck recruiting some newbies from the lower grades. Being Head Boy would have to be good for something after all. He certainly hoped there were enough perks to make up for that mudblood Granger being Head Girl.

He sneered again as the Gryffindor table clapped to welcome another first year. A shout from the Sorting Hate of ‘SLYTHERIN!’ distracted him from his malevolent musings. He saw Snape’s version of a delighted grin and Dumbledore looking slightly puzzled as a tall girl made her way towards the green-draped table. She definitely wasn’t a first year, she was nearly 6 foot, midnight black hair swirling around her waist blending almost perfectly into the school robes she wore. Draco stood up to welcome the stranger. Maybe this year would be interesting after all.
