Two Red Heads

     Severus Snape walked into the Slytherins common room late that night, after failing to get Lily to forgive him for calling her a 'mudblood'. It was so late, he was expecting the common room to be empty, but it was not. There was a red-haired girl sleeping on one of the sofas, her face was covered by a book. This girl was in his year, but he had never spoken to her, he was not even sure if he knew her name.
"Severus," A voice came from the boys' bedroom area. It was his friend Turnus Mulciber. "There you are, where have you been?" He walked over to Severus, as he spoke.
"I went to see Lily," Severus said.
"Oh, I heard about today," Turnus said. "I've never been prouder to call you my friend." Severus felt like he should be happy about this, approval from a pureblood, but this was also about his Lily. Strangely, Severus did not say anything, he just looked back at the girl sleeping on the couch. "I heard it's the third night this week that Selwyn has slept out."
"Selwyn?" Severus asked. 
"Yeah, that's her surname," Turnus said. "She reads more than most Ravenclaws I know." Severus just stared at her. "Are you coming to bed?"
     Turnus asked that last part as the Selwyn girl started to wake up, and Severus decided to walk over to her. Turnus shrugged and went back to their dorm room. Severus sat down on the couch next to her, she looked over at him with a raised eyebrow.
"May I help you, Snape?" Selwyn asked, he was surprised she knew his name. 
"What are you reading?" Severus asked.
"Its a book called 'Down a Dark Hall', it's a muggle book," Selwyn said.
"Why are you reading a muggle book?" Snape asked.
"My sister sent it to me," Selwyn said. "It's about a boarding school, and thought I'd get a kick out of it for some reason."
"How strange," Snape said. "What house is your sister in?"
"Karen did not go to Hogwarts," Selwyn said. "We moved to England from America right after I turned eleven. And she's two year's older than I am." She added when she saw his look. "I was originally supposed to go Ilvermorny." Snape felt like there was something she was leaving out but was not sure if he should press her for it. "So what's up Snape? You've never spoken to me before, and we have every class together including the electives."
"We do?" Snape asked. "I do not think I have noticed you."
"Most people don't," Selwyn said. "I like to stick to myself. I think I am going to go to bed now."
"Wait," Snape asked, though he was not sure how to continue. "You know my whole name?
"Yes I know your first name is Severus," Selwyn said. "And that your middle name is Tobias." Then she got up and started heading to the girls' dorms.
"Selwyn," Severus said. "What is your name, your full name?"
"Serafina Nyx Selwyn," Selwyn said, then left him there.
    Severus wanted to talk to her more, but he could not, so he went to his dorm and found Turnus still awake, waiting for him. He put on his pyjamas and climbed into bed.
"I get it," Turnus said. "You just have a preference for redheads." Severus looked very confused. "Now that you're over the mudblood, you look to Selwyn for company. Interesting choice, I heard Black even tried to ask her out and she acted like no one was there."
"That's not," Severus started. "I was just talking to her."
"I see," Turnus said. "Testing out the waters."
     Severus was too exhausted to argue, with O.W.L.s then all the Lily stuff, so he just shrugged and laid down. He started falling asleep and could hear Turnus still talking. At one point it sounded like he was telling Severus that he was too old to not have been kissed, and should consider finding a pure-blood to date. Well, a pure-blood like Selwyn.
