Falling into Destiny
A/N: This is an old idea I used to write for back on Freedom of Speech. I hope to make it much better than the original form. However, I am going to keep to the true second view perspective. It's my personal feeling that having it be something like [y/n] and yet controlling the character's actions instead of being a cyoa just isn't my style. My style is what I learned is the true second perspective which is that the narration has 'you' for the pronouns yet the 'you' is an actual character with a name and background. Please give it a chance.
Falling into Destiny
Chapter One
The sound of the castle seemed eerily quiet at the moment. Normally it was bustling full of students but right now it felt almost...well dead. It was probably just your nerves considering that you were being lead by a rather petulant Snape. It wasn't a long walk, mind you, but it was quiet. Too quiet. Like everyone from your house had become ghosts. No. That wasn't right; even ghosts were more lively than this. When Snape pulled to a stop so did you. It wouldn't do to run into your head of house after all.
Snape opened the door to his office and inside of there set two drastically different, yet familiar, people. Blaise Zabini had dark bruises over the bridge of his broken nose already formed, which were harder to see on his dark skin than the bruising on Draco's jaw. Both of them seemed to have attempted to smarten themselves up but considering that they had marks on their face there wasn't much that could hide what had been done. Rather, what they had done to one another. What was especially troublesome was the fact that before this night they had been what you might have considered as friends.
"Excuse me, Professor, but why am I here?" You questioned, already feeling like you knew the answer to such a question.
"Mr. Zabini mentioned that the disgusting display I witnessed had something to do with you," Snape said as he sent a scathing look to both of the boys. "Care to enlighten us?"
You looked between the two of them and shrugged. "I have no idea what he's talking about."
You had a clue but it wasn't one you were going to voice aloud. There were some details that were better left unsaid. At least to teachers. It wasn't like any permanent or lasting damage had been done to either of the boys in front of you. Besides if you said anything it would be a betrayal of your house's trust. And you had a feeling that Snape already knew that. How could he not have? He just wanted you to say something or to continue to deny it. Knowing him, he wanted you to deny it. Which was exactly what you were going to do.
Snape's cold eyes reminded you that a mental wall definitely had to go up. He was one of the few wizards you had met that you would say was actually good at Occlumency and you did not want him inside your head.
"You are quite certain?"
You nodded dutifully and put on the show of yawning if only for Blaise's benefit. After all, both Draco and Professor Snape already knew you better than to think you ever yawned.
"Can I go back to bed now, professor? I have classes in the morning."
"Yes. Please escort these two back to their dormitory as well," Snape dictated.
You nodded and were about to walk out of the door when Blaise's rather congested, no doubt from the broken nose he sported, voice spoke up. "Shouldn't we go to Madame Pomfrey?"
Snape looked at him sneeringly. "No. Take this as your punishment. You two are to go straight to bed."
Oh the look on Blaise's face was absolutely mutinous. Served him right for the stunt he tried to pull. You had a feeling he was going to try and perform his own charm on his nose but without the right pronunciation, which you doubted he'd be able to do, it wasn't going to work very well. in fact, if he did it wrong he was only going to make his nose that much worse. Considering how vain he was, you had a feeling that this was the worst punishment that could be afforded to him for his transgressions. And that Snape probably knew that all too well.
With a bit of a throat clearing, you led the two boys back through the dungeons to the Slytherin entrance. "Optimus."
Quickly the Slytherin common room was revealed. The black leather couches and seats reflected the roaring fire of the oversized fireplace on the far wall. The silver lamps lit up as you entered into the room, pointing to the fact that there had been no other students waiting around. Moodily Blaise stormed off through the common room. You had a feeling that he was headed straight for the bathroom to see what he could do about the state of his face.
Which left you alone with Draco. Perfect.
Taking a deep breath you turned to see him, almost expecting him to move off as well. He didn't, surprisingly enough.
"What happened?" You questioned.
"We got into a row."
"That much I figured out for myself, thanks. I meant what happened to start it?"
There was a dark expression that passed over his face. You steeled yourself for a nasty comment - those fell so readily from the fifth year's lips that it was astounding. Instead you heard only silence.
"Draco," you prompted.
"He made a disagreeable comment."
"So you hit him like a common muggle," you pointed out dryly.
Oh, he really didn't like that. Good. Because this whole strong silent thing he was trying to pull off was getting on your nerves. He sneered at you and started to walk away. You reached for his arm which he jerked away.
"Seriously?" You tossed at him.
"My wand was out of reach," he hissed back at you. "Not that it's any of your business, Dorian."
You took a step back and put your hands up. Fine, if he wanted to be an ass then you were going to let him. It really didn't bother you all that much. Not at this point. After suffering this attitude for the last few years you'd gotten used to it; he was his father's son after all. But you really did miss the boy you grew up with. Sure he'd always been judgemental but he'd never been cold. Not until you met back up with him at Hogwarts. It was like as soon as he got here he put up a shield or something so no one could get in, not really. Not even you. You'd given up trying sometime yearly last year. If he wanted to be a prat, that was fine. You'd just stop wasting your energy on him. Lord knows that you barely had enough to get through the day with all the magic they were having you use anyways. It was getting harder and harder each night to gather enough to make it through the next day as it was.
So without any more fuss, you went back to your own dorm with the other seventh year Slytherin girls. When you got into the room you dully noted that the other girls, save for one, were still off in the boy's dorm. It wasn't that unusual for it to happen - especially in the winter months as it was. Being under ground surrounded by the lake kept it nice and cool during the warm months. Yet when the frost set in, no matter how many fireplaces were lit, there was a nip to the air of the dorms that couldn't be shook off. Which lead to boys and girls hooking up if only to sleep in the same bed for the warmth.
Of course, you better than most understood that most of the time it was a little more than sleeping but...that was their business. You tried to keep your nose out of it as much as possible considering that putting said nose in there would end up getting people hurt. Besides the hours of the night reserved for sleep or nightly shenanigans were usually spent doing something else in your case. You had a few dreams to go through and considering that Snape had woken you up, you were already behind schedule. And it wasn't like the cold bothered you...though, as you laid down, you regretfully admitted that the loneliness of your situation did. More than you'd ever admit aloud.
