Where the hell?

Hex Factor

A.N / I’ve always said that I hate crossovers and in general, I do, I really do. But I recently read ‘Keogh’ by Chelle on Granger Enchanted and LOVED it. Unfortunately, I don’t think it will ever be finished (it hasn’t been updated since 2008). It has inspired me to try writing my own crossover and has influenced some of the plot points in this little tale. If you’re looking for smut, I suggest you try elsewhere, as this is a very slow-burn story and any lemons are a very long way off. It starts with Hermione having only just turned 13 and still in her second year at Hogwarts. I think we all know ‘Mione isn’t the type of girl to give it up that early, Ginny maybe, but not Hermione.

Discovery

It was the rain that woke her. It landed on the side of her face not resting on the

grass and soaked through her clothes and made her tail twitch. Wait! What tail? That

thought was enough to snap Hermione Grangers brilliant mind to full attention and she

immediately sat up to investigate the extra limb mysteriously emerging from beneath her

skirt. The first thing she could identify in the twilight of dawn was that it was about the

same length as her legs and ended in a point, like an arrow-head. She could tell that it was

covered in dark fur, but there wasn’t enough light for her to distinguish the colour. When

she tried flexing it, Hermione discovered it was completely prehensile. She could control it

as easily as her hands. Better actually, since the much smaller bones in the tail granted it a

far greater range of flexability than her arms. That thought made Hermione look at her

hands. They were different. She’d expected the fur, after all if it was on her tail then

logically it probably covered the rest of her as well, but Hermione was shocked to discover

she only had two fingers rather than four. “What the fuck?” Whilst not prone to swearing

Hermione felt that this situation warranted at least one outburst. Standing to go back into

the school (and up to the medical wing as fast as possible) Hermione realised for the first

time that she shouldn’t be outside. How the heck did I get out here? I was in a stall in

Myrtle’s bathroom. Did I apparate accidentally? Impossible, you can’t apparate inside

Hogwarts Grounds. Wait..........Where’s the castle? This last thought followed the discovery

that Hogwarts was nowhere to be seen. Where the hell am I?

“Where is she Harry?” A very panicked Crabbe/Ron asked his similarly Polyjuiced

friend. Both boys had been in separate stalls on either side of their female friend for their

transformation. No sooner had they drank the foul concoction than they had heard a loud

bang that oddly ended in a soft tone, a sort of BAMf noise. A puff of smoke accompanied by

a sulphur-like smell wafted up from beneath the cubicle partition, eliciting a worried cry

from both boys even as their transformations took place. Now however, the two boys stood

on the toilets looking into the cubicle between them, previously occupied by their brain-box

best friend. “I have no idea Ron. I, I think we’d better go to Professor McGonagall.” The

boy-who-lived was worried, very worried. Harry knew they were going to get in trouble,

they shouldn’t have been in a girls bathroom, they shouldn’t have been doping other

students with sleeping potions, they definitely shouldn’t have been making Polyjuice Potion

but Harry was far less worried about punishment than he was about what had happened to

his friend.

Ten minutes later....

After a quick, frantic explanation to their Head of House, both boys sat in Professor

Dumbledore’s office, Polyjuice antidotes having already worked their magic and returned

them to normal, with Professors Snape, McGonagall and Dumbledore all looking at them.

For once, Snape and McGonagall shared similar looks of anger towards the two Gryffindor

students, Dumbledore on the other hand, appeared greatly disappointed in them and at the

same time, pensive. “I still can’t believe either of you, or Miss Granger could be so

reprehensibly stupid!!” Professor McGonagall was very clearly still fuming. “I can. Neither of

these two have ever evinced an ounce of sense, and Miss Granger is regrettably easily lead

by them.” Professor Snape, uttered with his patented sneer. “Severus, Minerva please, I

think these boys have been yelled at enough for one night. However, given the severity of

your actions, I am forced to remove 100 points each from Gryffindor for both of you and

Miss Granger and you will all spend the rest of the year in detention and you Harry are

banned from playing Quidditch for the year. Now, I suggest you both go back to your

tower.” Professor Dumbledore was clearly angrier than he looked and had just given them

the harshest punishment he could, short of expulsion. “Yes Professor....but what about

Hermione?” Harry and Ron were both relieved not to be expelled, Harry especially as it

meant not being stuck at the Dursley’s, but still they were understandably concerned about

their missing friend. “We will find her Harry, but the two of you will return to Gryffindor

Tower now and be very grateful that you weren’t expelled.” Albus answered.

Once Harry and Ron had left, Albus turned to Severus “I’ve never heard of Polyjuice

having the affect that Harry and Mr Weasley described, nor do I believe that Miss Granger

‘blew up’. Have you any idea what could have happened Severus?” Albus, himself a Potions

Master asked the one man living whose accomplishments in the field exceeded his own. “No

Albus, not these effects, but Polyjuice has been known to react oddly with certain

Muggle-borns. In each case, the affected Witch or Wizard was discovered to also be what is

commonly referred to by Muggles as a Mutant. As we three have been aware since she first

came to this school, Miss Granger has been cloaked behind a very strong glamour spell,

concealing her true appearance. It is conceivable that this glamour hides an outward sign of

such a mutation.”Albus acknowledged his friend’s words with a small nod of his head, a

thoughtful expression on his face. Whilst he had of course heard of the mutant

phenomenon, he knew next to nothing about it. “And do you believe that this mutation

could have caused Miss Grangers’ disappearance?”

“It is conceivable. Have you heard of teleportation?”

“I haven’t.” Minerva replied. All in the room were aware that Severus had made it his

business to learn as much about mutation as possible after a former lover had admitted to

being such a person. Severus turned towards the older Witch before continuing. “It’s an

ability caused by mutation that enables the mutant to move instantaneously between two

points. It’s usually far superior to apparation as there is much less risk involved and wards

would not hamper such a method of travel. It is very similar to the method of apparation

used by House Elves. If Miss Granger is indeed a mutant, and has manifested this ability, it

would be the most likely cause of the effects Potter described. The noise would, like with

Apparating, be caused by the displacement of air when she teleported, or jumped, as it is

commonly referred as.” Having taken this information in, Albus had a few questions.

“What would be the range of this ability, this Jumping?”

“I’m afraid there’s no way of knowing. It depends on the strength of the mutation. The

strongest, known as Omega-Level Mutants, could conceivably jump to any point on the

planet. Miss Granger could be anywhere, though with an accidental jump, it is most

probable that she has gone somewhere that she is familiar with.”

“Where the hell am I?” Hermione looked around in the failing light, and wondered,

not for the first time, what this place was. In the hour that she estimated she had been

there, Hermione had found it to be an island, situated atop sheer cliffs all around on every

side. In the middle of the island, and encompassing a good two thirds of the ground, was

what appeared to be a very advanced building of Muggle design. Given her current

appearance, Hermione was loath to approach the building in-case the Muggles inside

mistook her for a demon or a mutant – either one was liable to get her killed. Sensing a

concerned presence behind her How did I know that? Hermione turned to find a

middle-aged woman, wearing what looked like a lab coat over a catsuit. Oh god, I’m gonna

be dissected! Hermione stepped back, further into the shadows of the trees she’d been hiding

amongst, unaware that this caused her to almost completely disappear from the woman’s

sight.

Moira Mactaggert had spotted the intruder in her home on the security cameras and

seeing long, dark blue hair and cloven hands had immediately recognised a mutant.

Assuming that the mutant had come to her Laboratory seeking help, as many had before,

she had immediately informed her guests that they had company before going out to meet

the unknown mutant. Seeing the mutants tail, and subsequent disappearing act however,

Moira instinctively believed she knew the identity of the clearly young and startled mutant

before her. “Hermione? Is that you?”

A.N / Well, that’s the first chapter up. The big question, clearly, is how does Moira know

Hermione? Even Hermione doesn’t know Hermione. Also, Snape had a lover? Greasey bat

Snape had a lover? How is that possible? LOL. Don’t forget to rate and review please people.
