Prologue
She knew it was pointless to continue as she was doing. She knew her concentration was broken, as it had now been for weeks. Hermione Granger, for the first time in her life, was falling behind.
Her best friends saw her in her state, but they felt helpless to snap her out of it. They knew why she was like this, and they knew there was nothing they could do. Instead, they watched her falling deeper and deeper into her depression.
What was the reason for her uncharacteristic slump? For the first time in her life, Hermione had lowered her defenses to let someone besides Harry, Ron, and Ginny in. She had allowed herself to fall and hard. She had trusted someone to catch her and they had not disappointed – well not in the beginning. For the first time, Hermione knew what it felt like to love and to be loved, or so she thought. She knew now that their love story was a bit one sided. She knew now that she should have never trusted Draco Malfoy.
