Back To You
Summary: Alternate universe, there is no magic although it is implied that Victor Krum who plays an important role in the plot knows “too” many staff and has recollections of passed lives. So Draco and Hermione dated when Hermione was 16 for a year (Draco in this fic is 7 years older) their relationship has been quite eventful and passionate (eventful mainly due to Draco’s jealousy and possessiveness). They broke up when Draco was put in jail for a year for his “involvement” with a notorious gang that has committed felonies of several types. He was also blamed for setting a trap to James Potter’s gung (Harry Potter’s older brother) both brothers were killed that day and Draco was held responsible. So now his back, he he… It’s my first fan fiction so I hope it’s not so disappointing…

Before “hell” breaks loose
Hermione was looking outside the window trying to bring all those memories that plagued her mind to a halt …
It’s been a year. ‘Have I truly survived a year without him?’ she thought. ‘Yeah… sure… with the only exception that I haven’t stopped thinking about him for a single moment’ It wasn’t supposed to be this way … Moments where supposed to turn into hours, hours to days… Days of clarity without his memory tearing apart what was left of her existence. A day without thinking of him was all she wanted and dreaded at the same time. She couldn’t bear to lose him. So afraid of simply shutting her memories out that she didn’t even know if she could do it. Simply forget him?... There was nothing simple in it. Not thinking him was impossible. ‘But I must. I can’t put up with this… this torment. He ruined both our lives with his actions and he keeps tormenting me by not being here. I should be thankful that he’s not here because I must not forgive him … Have I forgiven him? No! I simply miss him and its excruciating!’
“You know … the view won’t change. Has it changed for the last hour you’ve being staring outside?” Victor stood in the doorway of her bedroom tall and slender but still muscled and tanned with a look of amusement on his features. Only his dark brown, almost black eyes betrayed his deepest concern for Hermione. ‘It won’t be long before “hell” breaks loose’ he thought ‘and there’s no turning back this time.’
“It’s been the same view for quite some time …” she answered with her eyes still on the road before her. A road so full of emptiness… Like her life has been for quite some time… She turned to look at him “It hasn’t change for you either… you always see what I see”. He smirked at her comment knowingly. He crossed the distance between them and sat beside her, his eyes fixed on hers. He took her hands in his. Unfortunately it was his fate to have seen much more… All those words he couldn’t say though she could feel.
“I see more…” he said.
“I know.” And she did know… her (friend?) always seemed to know everything. Every thought that crossed her mind he knew. In a weird way she knew him also very well, if not too well. To everyone else he was a riddle. Most people feared him and disliked him due to his arrogant and dismissive attitude, but to her he was a haven. When they talked everything became clear. She kept finding peace in this familiarity. No words needed. No worries.
“What am I supposed to do? Be happy is not an option. I can’t pretend around you. ” she could pretend around anyone else but Victor and her …they were made from the same material. No one could see it but they were so alike.
“And you don’t have to pretend around me darling, but there is that social gathering you have to attend today, so you better put that most charming smile of yours, dress up and go have some fun.”
Hermione frowned. Neville’s birthday party was the last thing she needed right now. Besides the atmosphere wasn’t going to be so festive they were supposed to be celebrating Harry’s birthday too today, but since he was gone… ‘That’s not fair! Nev is my friend’ she thought ‘He should be happy on his birthday’. Even if it would never be the same without Harry she should celebrate with everyone and trying to keep a smile on her face. They were all moving on slowly. She should show after all this time her support somehow. Being absent wouldn’t be encouraging, but all she really wanted to do was to hide in her room until the world was no longer.
“We both know you’ll go, so get on with it.” He said firmly, and the he put on a smile of false innocence. “It can only get worse…” His smile turned into a smirk. Hermione looked at him with an exasperated look.
“That’s soooo motivating” she said her voice a mixture of irony and irritation.
“No seriously it can get worse and it will. So you better enjoy the time that is left and spend it carefree with your friends” his tone was serious and Hermione knew something was wrong. That was why she didn’t make a snide comment about his choice of words. ‘Carefree?... Right!... Now where did I put that dictionary?’
“What is it that I should know?” she asked with a tone of concern.
“Now is not the time. You have to be there in an hour.” He stood up helping her up too and pushed her gently towards her walk-in closet.
She turned around again bumping into his chest and pressed her hands to his body to support herself.
“Will you come with me?” she asked putting on the cutest smile she could manage. She needed his support and he wasn’t known for saying no easily to her. Even though her friends did not like him that much, he would come for her.
“I am not invited actually and I …”
She gave him the puppy eyes and the pouted her lips a little. ‘That’s hitting below the belt!’ he thought.
He sighed looking into her eyes and caressing her cheek.
“Why is it that I can’t say no to you?” he asked in a half amused half false exasperated tone.
“Oh, I don’t know … probably because I’m so cute and irresistible…” she said laughing and she walked in her closet. It was true she was irresistible; especially to Victor. She was so tempting that it was hard to control his self around her. And he was the embodiment of self-control and restraint. He had to be… So that he could keep her safe and happy.
He lay down on the bed with his hands behind his head. He loved her. Always had and always will. And she knew it too. There was no hiding in their relationship. The infuriating part was that she loved him too… she just also happened to be in love with that git. He wanted to fight for her but he had way too many painful memories to make the mistake of pursuing her again and end up hurting her.
They couldn’t actually name what they were. They were more than friends but no lovers, so much alike, so close but not close enough for him. Victor never had been noble. He was cynical, sarcastic and quite distrustful, but with Hermione it was different. She was the only person he loved and cared for. His reason to be and he would accept any part he was given in her life. Not playing the part he wanted was like burning in hell. However being in her life even like this (like a friend?) was like burning in hell and loving the flames. For these flames made him feel alive. ‘Even pain and anguish are sweet around her’ he thought with glumness.
“By the way … do you happen to want me there because you want to scare Goldstein away? Because I’m planning to do so…” He told her still lying on the bed.
“You don’t plan. When you wish to amuse yourself you just act. And Anthony and I are not anything more than friends as far as I’m concerned.” She answered while she was putting on her black sandals.
“He’s got the hots for you.” he answered with a melody in his rich voice and a smirk that although Hermione couldn’t see she could picture in her head vividly. It made her smile a little too.
“Well let’s hope he enjoys disappointment because I’m not in a “dating” mood at the moment” ‘moment should be interpreted as the last year’ she thought while wearing a light grey dress with a large V that fell just above her knees and a satin cream colored belt that embraced her waist several times and ended with a bow to the side.
“I suppose we should interpret moment as the last year?” he answered sarcastically.
She walked out and stood before her vanity table brushing her straightened long brown hair. He walked and stood behind her looking at her reflection and putting his hands on each side of the table straddling her.
“Beautiful… as always.” She gave him a sad smile through the mirror. Sad was all she did lately. Sad and painful thoughts of joyful and blissful memories that her mind would love to drown in.
“Thank you” she whispered and turned around to look at him.
“I’m that one person you shouldn’t thank for anything; you only get the truth from me-
“and your strength, your support …”she added
“It’s my pleasure being here for you” he said while helping her get up. She took his arm and they walked together out of the room and into the living room.
“I know it is. You are as masochistic as I am some times.” She pointed out with amusement.
“You?... A masochist?...” he pretended to be astonished. “Now why would you say that?” he teased her, while opening the door for her.
They walked out of the house and into the night being watched by a pair of silver grey eyes.
