I write Harry Potter fanfictions for FUN... no money is EVER made from my efforts and all characters and settings that are used belong to the Harry Potter universe!
Welcome to the House of Black
(I am writing this because I have no life and live to serve the ever loyal fans of slash. Echo is me injecting myself into the story and thus giving much more control over plot points.)
----------------
"Sirius," a girl with boyishly short copper hair says, standing in the doorway of Sirius' room, "within the hour a member of the Noble and Ancient House of Black will come to our home seeking shelter. He will need our help and we should not judge him with a harshness he does not deserve."
"You saw this?" Sirius asks, sitting up from the bed, on which he had previously been sleeping.
"Yes, my visions have never been wrong before..." her voice trails off as she turns and returns to her room to prepare for the visitor.
----------------
Draco Malfoy had no where to go. Under orders from the Dark Lord, who was using his parents home as a base of operations, Draco was forced to leave, forever. The event had left him with no where to turn to, cold and alone on a stormy night.
In the rush of his removal, a piece of paper had been the only thing given to him. Snape had forced the paper into his hand as he shoved him across the threshold and locked the door. Now he looks at it and carefully unfolds the paper to see the words 'Number 12, Grimmauld Place' scrawled in a girl's writing. A second after reading it, the paper burst into flames, lightly burning the tips of Draco's fingers. He had been to the street Grimmauld Place once before. He closes his eyes as he tries to remember, so he can apparate and get out of the bone chilling rain. A second later, he's gone.
-----------------
The bell of Number 12, Grimmauld Place rang out in the night and the screams of Walburga Black's portrait filling the air. Sirius walks to the portrait, looking at his mother as she screams her obscenities.
"Fucking filithy, blood traitors and half-bloods!" She sees her son, "You! You are a disgrace to this house you fucking traitor!"
"I love you too, mother," Sirius says shutting the curtain that normally shielded the portrait from the rest of the world. Her screams ceased and silence filled the house.
"Looks like it's time, Uncle," the girl says walking past Sirius to the door, her movements as fluid as water.
She opens the door to reveal Draco Malfoy, soaked and frozen from the wind and rain.
"Hello, Draco. My name is Echo, I welcome you to the Noble and Ancient House of Black," Echo says as she ushers him into the house, closing the door behind her quitely to keep from awakening the wrath of Walburga.
"You've got to be kidding me, Echo. There is no way that I'm allowing a Malfoy to reside within these walls," Sirius says, glaring at Draco with contempt and then looking at Echo in disbelief.
"If I'd known this was the home of a Black blood traitor, I would never have come in the first place," Draco spat, his anger at Voldemort being redirected to his uncle.
"I am not kidding, Uncle. I told you that there would be a member of our family to arrive this night. You were also told to not judge this young man with any form of anger or contempt," Echo glares in Sirius direction, "Harshness does not become you."
"You expect me to stay here?" Draco asks, looking around at the filth covering every surface he laid his eyes on.
Echo looks "at" Draco and he notices that her eyes aren't clear, but glazed over, like someone with bad cataracts, "Yes," she says, "I know you have no where else to go and what is family for if it won't take in a stray member during a time of need?"
Draco knew in his heart she was right.
"Where will he sleep? All the rooms already have occupants, all of which will not want him for a roommate," Sirius asks.
"I told you what I saw and then spent the next half-hour fixing up a cot for myself. Draco shall have my bed, until either one of the girls moves into my room and he can have his own or someone takes him into their room. Since they are all out and the hour is late I think it is better we settle in. The others can find out in the morning."
Echo smiles at Sirius indicating the conversation was ended and there was no protesting against her decision. She turns to Draco, "Are you hungry?"
"No," He says flatly, tired and desperately wanting out of the wet clothing.
"Then we shall get you some dry clothing. Only then will I take the questions to which you seek an answer."
