Hermione Granger crawled as quickly as she could through thick black smoke that poured from her mothers house she could no longer see and was starting to choke as the smoke made her throat raw. she was clutching her wand but was unable to speak and non verbal spells were her best work now she searched for her mother but it was becoming difficult to breathe, to think or even to act.
Then her hand brushed something as she moved along the landing all the while her brain screamed for her to get out of there she gripped whatever it was she had found then realized that it was flesh her mothers flesh an arm to be precise Hermione knew deep down she was too late but she reached for a pulse praying she was wrong or that any second she would wake up feeling nothing she sobbed then choked the next thing she knew she was being lifted by strong arms then her world went black.
Two weeks later Hermione woke to the sound of her bedroom door being opened and Mrs. Weasley walked in to the room a fresh pile of laundry in her arms stopping suddenly as she noticed that Hermione was watching her she smiled kindly
“I’m sorry dear I didn’t mean to wake you” she said as their eyes met.
“It’s honestly no problem Mrs. Weasley” Hermione told her then added “What time is it anyway?”
“A little after 9 dear” said the older witch as she placed the laundry at the end of Hermione’s bed then turned to leave, once she had moved to the door she said “there was a letter for you today it is on the pile there”
Then she left before her own tears came again.
Hermione waited for the door close then she went to get her letter the writing on the front of the envelope was tidy and curvy and written in purple ink so didn’t recognize it at all.
Nor did she recognize the seal on the back tearing it open she read the words carefully.
Miss Granger,
We have heard of your terrible loss and we wish to help you.
Inside the envelope you will find a key it is for Gringott’s vault 647,
You will find things that will help you for the time being.
We will be in touch again
It was not signed and Hermione took it to show Harry and Ron soon after they left for Diagon Alley.
