Chapter 1: Beginnings
“It’s him! Lily take Harry and run.”
“Avada Kedavra,” Voldemort intoned, shaking his head dispassionately, wondering at the sudden change in his previously loyal follower.
“All over some Mudblood bint James?” He asked the corpse.
Voldemort continued into the house following the sound of the witch scrambling to get away. He entered the nursery and sought out the red head that cowering, trying to hide behind a baby.
“He’s the one you want, take him, leave me be!” She cried.
“Tut-tut Lily, I thought you were a Gryffindor? Such loyalty and bravery, such self-sacrifice no, you will die, then I will kill your mudblood son. Avada Kedavra, Avada Kedavra!” The Green eyes of baby Harry watched the green light hit his mother, another rushing towards himself. The light hit his forehead, bouncing back at the man turning his body to dust.
Moments later a triumphant Dumbledore entered the building, his wards letting him know that Voldemort’s spirit had left, he picked up the boy from the floor of the nursery and dissaparated with a crack.
Dumbledore arrived onto the quiet street of Private Drive, Surrey in the dead of night and set off to number four, leaving a sleeping baby Harry on the doorstep with a note to his relatives. The boy would have 10 long years in this house. Albus knew that the boy’s relatives would be terrible to him, ensuring the boy’s low self worth and malleability for when the time came for him to be sacrificed in the name of the “light” to defeat the “evil” Dark Lord Voldemort.
Meanwhile Sirius Black, the Auror and Harry Potter’s godfather was chasing a rat, a big rat. Sirius cornered Pettigrew, using anti-animagus and anti-apparation wards and delivered the traitor to his boss Amelia Bones head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, the DMLE, who was only too happy to throw the Potter’s Secret Keeper into Azkaban.
Sirius then returned to Hogwarts where he met up with the Headmaster and head of the Order of the Phoenix to find out where Harry was so that he and his mate, Remus Lupin, could take the boy into their home and raise him as his own. However when approached about this the old man told him that Harry was quite safe where he was and that there was no way the magical world would allow their savior to be brought up by a werewolf and a Black, quite simple. Despite the pair’s complaints and insistence over the next few months Albus refused to yield the location of the boy and the couple was getting desperate.
“There must be a spell or a ritual or something,” Remus told his mate.
“If Dumbledore won’t tell us where he is, we’ll find him for ourselves, kidnap him if we have to, he’s my cub, I can’t just leave him with strangers Paddy.”
So the pair began searching through the books at both Hogwarts and the Central Wizarding Library in London, none of the simple spells worked, obviously Dumbledore had warded the location well and the pair was getting nowhere fast. They were both currently in the Library at Hogwarts searching the shelves for something useful when Remus called out to his mate.
“Sirius, come quick.”
Remus quickly showed the animangus the scrap of parchment he found on their desk:
Meet me at the Black Family Home tomorrow at 9pm, I can aid you in your search. SS.
“Snivellus? What does he want? It must be a trick.” Sirius said vehemently.
“We are not trusting that spy.”
“But Paddy what if he can help? What if he can get us our cub back?” Remus pleaded.
“No, that’s my final say, we are not going.”

At 8.45 the next night Remus was dragging a sulking Sirius towards his childhood home.
“Thank you Paddy” he said kissing the man sweetly on the cheek.
“Hopefully he can help.” A mutinous look was the only reply he received.
Severus was waiting for the couple when they arrived and the three men entered the house quietly, heading for the parlor. After erecting a number of privacy wards Snape turned to the two.
“We have much to discuss, thank you for coming.” Sirius merely sneered in response but Remus nodded for him to continue.
“As you have both clearly discovered Albus is no longer the man the public believes him to be. I am offering you help in finding Harry as I believe it is what needs to be done, however before we continue I want the three of us to take wizard’s oaths to not reveal the information shared tonight. What say you?”
Remus immediately raised his wand to his chest, “I Remus John Lupin do solemnly swear not to reveal the information shared tonight with anyone other than those present. That the information given will be truthful, so mote it be.”
A tingle of magic swirled around him settling on him as the oath was made. After a sharp stare from his mate Sirius copied the oath and was followed by Severus.
“Okay gentleman, this is what I know...” Severus spent several hours explaining to the couple about Dumbledore’s manipulations and disregard for the people underneath him, about his desires for control and the magnitude of political power that Dumbledore truly has and that it had never been used to aid society. Severus explained that he was in fact a true supporter of the dark, but had been at one point swayed by Dumbledore who tried to use him for his own gains. He also explained that Voldemort was not evil and that dark does not mean evil. The Dark Lord was not dead merely set back and that Dumbledore tricked him into attacking Harry. That James, who had been until recently in a triad relationship with the couple and a secret supporter of Voldemort, was drugged with love potion by Lily and Dumbledore due to a prophecy that tied a child of their making to ultimate power for Albus. That Albus had convinced Severus to give his lord a part of the prophecy that indicated that James and Lily’s son would be his destruction so that Voldemort would attack him, apparently the second part of the prophecy stated that the child would determine the end of the war.
He explained that the Dark Lord does not want to wipe out muggles and muggleborns. He believes that the segregation should be clearer and that muggleborn witches and wizards should be brought into the magic world as soon as possible to allow them to integrate into the wizarding society. That much of the atrocities apparently committed by the dark were either faked or done by forces not controlled by Voldemort.
That there had always and will always be a Dark Lord. Some Dark Lords are evil, but most are simply the leader of dark magic users and that the Dark Lord used to have a seat in the ministry. But Dumbledore had used his power to slander the dark over the years and removed them from the government. That Albus used his positions in the Ministry and at the school to make the public believe that dark meant evil.
By the end of his explanations the Potions Master’s voice had grown hoarse and the couple sitting on the couch across from him were holding each other tightly and crying for the loss of their pack mates and the evil of Albus Dumbledore.
“I will leave you now to think on what I have told you, I will return at midday tomorrow to help you in the search for Harry. I believe that the Black family library will be of assistance. Good night Gentlemen.” Severus said quietly as he left the room and let himself out of the house to return to the castle for the night.
