Deja Voodoo

Deja Voodoo

Dear gods, there he was again; the object of her schoolgirl fantasies/fears. He seemed to be carved from marble or perhaps ice all cool, pale tones, every inch of him stating superiority of breeding and class. The glacial glint in his eyes thawing as he turned her way and one hand beckoning her imperiously to him. She shivered slightly and tried to turn away only to be caught in that stare. Predator and prey she had to presume. Taking one halting step toward him she faltered, unable to go further because everything in her brain was sending alarm warnings that this was beyond wrong. But something dark and perverse in her wanted him. Wanted to be in his arms. Wanted his kiss.

Needles in my heart, spell on my mind,
your powerful potion gets me every time
I toss and turn, I can't sleep,
your kiss burns, through my dreams

Hermione rubbed her eyes and pushed her face away from the desk, peeling the latest edition of Witch Weekly away from where it had stuck to her cheek. Glancing down at the headline she read: The Wizarding World’s Most Eligible Man and she saw blinking slowly up at her the face of Lucius Malfoy wearing his usual haughty expression and sighed. No wonder she’d been dreaming of him, she thought. She had no idea how this ridiculous bit of garbage had ended up on her desk, probably her secretary’s attempt to get her back into the “real” wizarding world and out of the politics and powerplays that made up the Ministry of Magick.

Not that she minded the attempts most of the time but she had to fill her life with something and it might as well be work since nothing else seemed fulfilling at the moment. She still saw Harry and Ginny at least once a week for their dinners with the Weasley clan, which she was still oddly considered part of regardless of the fact she and Ron hadn’t been an item for ages now. Ron had changed drastically after the war. It had only been little things at first. When the dolls, of all things, of the Golden Trio had come out she and Harry had laughed over them, it amused them that they were collector’s items, while Ron had fussed and complained they’d gotten his hair color wrong. She thought now that should have been a glaring neon sign to her but at the time she’d laughed it off with Harry. More shifts in his personality had come through the time they were together, finally ending in a blazing row on New Years five years ago.

Here it comes again,
I don't stand a chance
Soul possession,
got me in a trance
Pullin' me back to you
Deja voodoo

As she thought back to that night, more thoughts of Lucius Malfoy came to her mind, for obvious reasons. He’d kissed her that night. It was the one and only time she’d been so thoroughly kissed in her life. She’d been looking through the crowd, trying to find Ron just before midnight, thinking it was him who’d molded himself to her back before closing her eyes. Her head had been tilted back and she’d been kissed in a manner Ron was just not capable of as the big clock had struck twelve. Her eyes had flown open to stare into Lucius Malfoy’s pale ones as he drew back from her with his usual smirk.

He’d leaned forward and said directly into her ear. “Really, Miss Granger, you should be more careful about whom you kiss,” he’d said before turning away. He’d taken two steps away before turning back to her. “And by the way, if you want to find that worthless Weasley you seem so interested in having on your arm, I’d try the second corridor off the main hallway. He’s shagging some little blonde witch as we speak.” He’d turned away from her again, making his way easily through the crowd.

She, of course, had stormed after him. “Liar! Ron wouldn’t do that to me.”

“I see you’ve not lost your ability to delude yourself where he’s concerned, Miss Granger. Pity. The only good thing that boy has going for him is you,” he said before disappearing.

Unfortunately, he hadn’t been lying. She’d found Ron with the blonde witch just as he was pulling his pants up and she was pushing her skirt down. Hermione had been livid and within fifteen minutes most of the wizarding world had known she and Ron were no longer a couple.

She glanced at the clock on the wall which read 1:07 a.m. London time and sighed. No wonder she had fallen asleep, she thought. She apparated back home, changing and immediately falling into bed and troubled dreams of Lucius Malfoy’s kiss.

Fire in the dark, pounding in my brain,
driven by the chant calling out my name
I toss and turn, I can't sleep,
your kiss burns, through my dreams

Lucius Malfoy sat at the huge oak desk in his study, carefully rewrapping a little, wild haired doll in white and red silk.

“You’re playing a dangerous game with her,” a voice said over his shoulder.

He turned to look at the ghost of Severus Snape and smiled wryly. “I like dangerous games, Severus, you know that.”

“What exactly is that?” he asked, pointing to the doll.

“Muggle magick. It takes longer to work but is still effective and amusing.”

***Author’s Notes***

Yes, love spells are manipulative but I figure that Lucius still has a dark streak in him for getting what he wants. Hope you all enjoyed.
