A New Life

A/N: Hey all, it’s been a while hasn’t it? The reason for that is because I had forgotten my password for my account and couldn’t get on it. Sorry? When I did remember it I reread the chapter and decided that it needed to be fixed up a bit before I worked on the next chapter.

Pairings: Who should I pair Harry up with? Raito or L? Can’t decide. Though it will be a one sided Raito/Misa on Misa’s part.

Summary: Harry leaves the wizarding world behind him after defeating Voldemort and goes to the muggle world to live a normal life. His life becomes anything but normal though when Shinigami enters his life.

Prologue

So what if they lived a boring life? A boring life was better then being in constant danger in Harry’s opinion. Crime was not uncommon, it happened all the time. You heard about it all the time on the news. Sure he didn’t like hearing about it but it was being bored that he did not mind.

What bothered him was what he saw happening to his best friend that his family did not see. He saw how bored Raito was of his life; saw how unhappy he was becoming. He seemed to be the only one who could see his unhappiness but then he knew Raito better then anyone else did. He was with him almost all the time and could see the emptiness of his eyes. How the light faded every time he heard crime happening on the news. He did live with him and his family after all on a Japanese student exchange program.

After defeating Voldemort Harry got tired of the wizarding world singing his praises. He lost a lot of friends during the last battle, now known as the battle of Hogwarts. Many people died that battle, including his parents last best friend, Remus Lupin and his wife Tonks, leaving behind their baby son Teddy who is being raised by Tonks mother even though Harry was named his godfather. So many people wanted to be friends with him because of how famous he became after defeating Voldemort. He became the next Dumbledore in the eyes of the wizarding world. He was also given the Order of Merlin 1st class as a reward for defeating Voldemort even though he didn't want it.

His friends, his real friends who had been with him through everything, had understood his reason for leaving the wizarding world. Ron and Hermione had gotten married after they left Hogwarts. Hermione had become the new Transfiguration professor and the Head of Gryffindor when McGonagall became the new Headmistress. Ron had become an auror instead of becoming a Quidditch player like Harry had thought he would be. Neville had also become a professor at Hogwarts and became the Herbology professor after Sprout retired.

Harry had gotten back together with Ginny and had asked her to marry him. He thought that he could finally have the family that he always wanted until he found out the truth. He had caught Ginny putting a love potion in his food one day and confronted her. He found out that she’s been feeding him love potions since sixth year. She had gone out with a bunch of different boys to get him jealous but he had only ever seen her as a younger sister. When that didn’t work she started slipping him a love potion.

He had wondered how he went to thinking her as a sister to loving her. Didn’t she learn anything from Tom Riddle? Apparently not. He broke up with her and broke off the wedding. Molly had been upset because she had been looking forward to seeing them being married and Harry becoming apart of the family but had understood why he did it while everyone else couldn’t believe that Ginny would go that far to get him. That had been the last straw that broke that camel’s back.

So he had decided to leave the wizarding world behind him, he had fulfilled the prophesy and could now live his life. The only way for him to be able to live his life peacefully is if he left the wizarding world and settled down in the muggle world. He worked his ass off to get cached up with all the work that he had missed in muggle school while being at Hogwarts and decided to go to Japan to finish his schooling there, where no one will have heard of him. Learning Japanese wasn’t very hard to do and he got invited to live with a muggle Japanese family who welcomed him into their home with open arms. Since his name stood out he changed it to Hiroshi Yui.

Harry became friends with Raito since they were the same age and went to school together. Harry made sure that Raito did other things besides studying all of the time, which was what he mostly spent his free time doing. Harry would play tennis with him at the tennis courts since Raito liked playing tennis and also because it helped Harry to keep in shape. Raito was a lot better at tennis then he was and usually won a lot of games but Harry still enjoyed playing against Raito because it got Raito out of the house. Raito really didn’t have any close friends even though he was fairly popular at school so Harry made the effort to become close to him. So far he was the only person that had gotten close to Raito.

“Hey Raito, why don’t we do something after school today?” Harry asked as they walked to school together.

Raito turned to him. “Like what?” he asked.

“I don’t know, something besides study. That’s all you do. You need to have some fun in your life.”

“I need to study if I want to stay the top student.”

“Yea, yea, I know. I’m the second top student but you don’t see me studying my life away do you?”

Raito smiled that handsome smile of his. “That’s because classes seem to come easy for you while I have to study hard if I don’t want to fall behind.”

Harry scratched his head. That was true. Harry never really thought that made much sense either. While at Hogwarts Harry had always been an average student with average grades, only standing out in Defense. He hadn’t been a prodigy in classes like Hermione was while in muggle school- he was a genius. The classes came to him a lot easier. Then again he had always done well at muggle school before going to Hogwarts.

“True. So do you want to do something after school or not?” Harry asked hopefully.

“I would, but I’m busy after school and we have cram school to go to later.”

Harry sighed. He didn’t even know why he bothered asking. Seriously though Raito needed to learn to have fun in his life. He was much to serious about life.

They entered the school grounds and saw people scattered around the courtyard chatting to their friends. Many girls giggled when they passed them. Girls always giggled whenever he or Raito walked passed them. He didn’t know why they thought that he was cute. His hair wasn’t as messy as it used to be and was a little longer, making it easier for him to tame it. He had gotten rid of the glasses and wore contacts instead. Unknown to him without his hair being so messy and without the big round glasses and with the right clothes he was quite the sight, especially since he had buffed up a bit with all of the training that he had gone through during the war so he was no longer skinny.

They entered their classroom together and Harry chatted with the other boys while Raito as usual read a book. Raito was very serious about his studies and was usually very quiet in school. Only Harry had ever gotten Raito to open up, he was detached to everyone else. While Raito remained distant with everyone else Harry had become friends with many people and he was well liked in school.

The morning bell rang and Harry sat in his desk behind Raito’s.

Harry nor Raito paid any attention to the lesson since they already knew it. They were staring out the window in boredom, with their hands lazily supporting their heads. That was when they saw something falling from the sky, snapping them out of their thoughts. Something that would change their lives- a black notebook that fell from the sky.

‘A notebook?’ Harry thought blinking.

Harry quickly wrote a note to Raito and passed it to him when no one was watching. Raito blinked at the note before he schooled his face to become blank. The two continued passing notes to each other in class. Raito usually hated it when Harry would pass notes to him in class since it distracted him from the lesson but today he didn’t mind since he wasn’t paying attention anyway.

‘Did you just see that?’ Harry had written.

Raito wrote a reply back but his handwriting was a lot better then Harry’s messy scrowl.

‘If you mean the notebook falling from the sky then yes I did.’

‘I wonder where the notebook came from.’

‘I don’t know. Maybe someone dropped it from the roof?’

‘That’s stupid, why would someone do that?’

‘Boredom.’

‘You’re probably right.’

‘Of course I am.’

Harry rolled his eyes. He got a bad feeling from the notebook. He decided that they had to find it before anyone else did. Raito was thinking the same thing- he wanted to find the notebook before anyone else.

OoOo

Raito was just as curious about the notebook as Harry was. After class was over Harry grabbed Raito’s hand and started pulling him from the class.

“Come on, Raito kun. Let’s go see what it was.” He said.

“Alright, you don’t have to pull on me.” Raito said coolly.

“Then don’t walk so slowly.” He retorted.

“There’s no reason to run. It will probably still be there when we get there.” He said calmly.

“I want to find it before anyone else finds it.”

They found the notebook where it had landed in the grass. Harry stared at it and the bad feeling that he got before started to get worst. He had learned to listen to his instincts since they were usually right and had saved him many times in the war. There was an evil aura surrounding the notebook that made him go on edge. Raito looked around to make sure that no one was watching before he bent down to pick up the notebook. Harry’s eyes widened and he grabbed Raito’s hand to stop him.

“No! Don’t!” He said in a panic.

“What’s the matter?” Raito asked, looking at him. “It’s just a notebook.” He said as he ignored him.

Harry watched in worry as he picked up the notebook and turned it over to read the front. On the front cover were the words ‘Death Note’ in silver handwriting.

“Death note?” They said together, reading the cover.

“Death note, as in a notebook of death?” Raito said.

“Raito, I don’t think that you should be messing with that.” Harry said nervously because of the evil aura that he was feeling coming from the notebook.

“It’s just a notebook, what harm could it do?” Raito said as he opened it.

The notebook was filled with normal lined pages that was blank like any other notebook.

“Hold on, go back. I saw something on the front,” Harry said.

Raito flipped it back to the front and saw silver writing on the inside cover in the same silver writing that was on the front cover.

“How to use it… geez, it’s all in English. What a pain.”

“You want me to read it?” Harry asked.

“No, I can read it. 'The human whose name is written in this note shall die.'”

Harry felt a shiver run down his spine. Raito just scoffed as he closed the notebook and put it back down on the ground.

“Raito kun?” Harry asked surprised at his actions.

“It’s just a hoax Hiroshi, someone’s sick idea of a joke. Like those chain letters you get that says to pass them on if you don’t want to die. Come on, let’s go.” He said leaving.

Harry hesitated, looking at Raito before bending down and picking up the notebook. Something told him that the notebook did not belong in the hands of a human so he didn’t want anyone else to find it.

A/N: Well, what did you think? Wonder who Harry will fall far, Raito or L? Or whose side he'll end up on.
