RAGE
“RUN!” Elizabeth Granger screamed as the infected pounded on their doors.
“Upstairs!” Sean Granger shouted as he pulled Hermione away from packing away their treasures.
They heard the hinges give way as they climbed the stairs as fast as they could. Infected surged through and began looking frantically for fresh blood. Hermione could barely hold back a scream as the infected spotted them fleeing.
They roared and shrieked and began to pursue them. Four infected raced up the stairs, taking two at a time. Sean slammed the door behind them and locked it.
Hermione tried to perform a locking spell, but it fizzled into thin air. The infected smashed at the doors, their bare hands splintering the wood. They had a few minutes at most. The only option was the window. Elizabeth opened it and pushed Hermione through.
“Sean!” Elizabeth called. “Come on!”
He was trying to put a cupboard in front of the door to buy them some more time, but it fell backwards and the door gave way. He raced to the window, climbing out after his wife. They ran across the roof tiles and cried out as they saw more infected coming out of the darkness, running down the street, trying more houses.
Hermione saw the infected trying to climb out the window, two at a time, getting stuck.
“The car.” Hermione said. “It’s our only chance. We have to get to the Ministry.”
Her parents nodded and they carefully walked over to the car port. One infected man was running around towards the back door, but a shriek from the infected at the window made him look up. He screeched as he spotted them. Hermione took out her wand.
“Avada Kedavra!” She shouted.
It hit him square in the chest. He fell back and twitched for a moment and then stood up again, the Rage coursing through him as strongly as before.
“Shit!” Hermione cried out. “Petrificus totalis!”
Again he was hit in the chest. He stiffened and fell to the ground. They looked around for more infected but when they saw none, they climbed down and jumped in the car. The infected man began to stir, his arms and legs spasmed and his head began to shake. Sean pulled the keys from his pocket and started the car. He slammed it into reverse and screeched down the driveway. Hermione saw the infected jump from the roof.
“GO!” She screamed.
The infected regained their feet and began to run at them, their arms outstretched. Hermione’s lip trembled. This fear was different to any other she had felt.
They sped off down the street, passing infected who looked at them briefly then went back to searching homes. One infected stepped out onto the road and looked like a dear caught in their head lights. It was Mr Baxter, an elderly man who had lived across the road.
Sean honked at him but he snarled and started to half limp, half run at them. Sean closed his eyes as he pressed the accelerator harder. They all jumped as he hit them head on and flew into the windshield and over the car. Hermione looked back. He wasn’t moving.
They sped around the corner and towards central London.
“I don’t know exactly where the phone booth is, but I know it’s around here somewhere!” Hermione said. “Just keep going and I’ll recognize the building.”
They drove a few more blocks and then Sean slammed on the brakes. At least one hundred infected stood blocking to road. They seemed to be just standing but then they looked at the car.
“Fuck!” Hermione cried, the tears streaming down her face. “Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck!”
The infected roared and Hermione and Elizabeth screamed, more terrified than they had ever been. Sean put it in reverse.
“Stop!” Hermione yelled. “It’s the alley! The phone booth is down there!”
Sean swerved and the car drifted down the alley. Hermione was never so relieved to see the red phone booth in her life. But then she saw them. A large group of survivors; some children, were being chased by the infected. The survivors were wearing robes and were clutching wands; they were heading for the booth too.
The car slammed to a halt as they reached the booth. The survivors were about fifty metres away. Elizabeth opened the door and pushed Hermione in.
“Whatever happens, get away!” Elizabeth said to Hermione, kissing her forehead.
“What?!” Hermione asked, seeing the strong look in her mothers eyes. “What are you doing?!”
“I’m sorry.” Sean said. “I love you, darling girl.”
“Dad!” Hermione reached out for him but he climbed back in the car along with her mother and they sped away, heading straight for the survivors and infected.
The survivors moved out of the way and Hermione watched in horror as the car ploughed into the infected sending bodies flying. The car stopped and infected flocked to it, banging on the windows.
The survivors reached the booth and they pushed the children in, as many as they could, before one parent took the phone off the hook and slammed the door shut. The booth shook and began to move down as the survivors outside the booth turn around, prepared to protect the booth with everything they had.
Hermione watched as the infected reached them and began to bite and punch and claw. The Witches and Wizards were defenceless against them. They fell to the ground, trying to scream, trying to fight back, but the infected were too many. The last thing Hermione saw was her mother being ripped away from the car, her arms reaching for her husband.
Then all was dark…
