The Unseen
My much awaited story, The Unseen! I would like to take this time to tell you a bit about this story, before anyone gets all huffy. This story will start a bit slow. There are two major plots going into play here, and one of them is the Dramione. Rest assured that I enjoy my Dramione very much, and will not abandon it. But it is not in immediate sight. Be patient, and the lemons will be savored that much more when they ripen. You know the drill. Review, and I will be forever in your debt (not really, but it sounded cool in my head!)

Great slitted, gold eyes stared at the small white rabbit, watching the prey as it nibbled on vegetation, unaware of the danger it was in. One clawed paw moved forward, ever-so-slightly, and pressed down on the ground, inching the beast closer. The rabbit’s head jerked up when a twig snapped underpaw, and the small creature took off. A chase!
Muscled, powerful legs thrust from the ground, the beast chasing after the rabbit with great enjoyment. The rabbit was fast, but it was no match for the speed of the black beast, who jumped, and grabbed the small animal in his claw, digging his great black nails into its flesh. He turned the rabbit over, noticing the way the whites of its eyes showed in fear as it looked up into the narrow face of a great black dragon. The dragon opened its mouth, revealing terrible curved fangs, dripping with a mixture of poison and saliva.
A short bark caught the attention of the dragon, and he looked over to see a wolf staring at him, its mouth open as if it were laughing. The wolf barked again, and sat down on its haunches, as if waiting for the dragon. The dragon breathed a great sigh, as if annoyed, and set the rabbit down. The tiny creature took off into the night, intent on getting home before it had to deal with anymore predators.
A small yip to the other side of the dragon caught his attention again, and he turned his great horned head to see a small red fox sitting beside him. He rumbled a greeting to the fox, which yipped again. A rustle near the wolf made the creature go down on its front paws, snarling viciously, but it covered its fangs quickly when a large black panther slinked out of the foliage. The wolf wagged its tail at the panther, who sat down beside it with a small thud, falling forward to rest its head on its great black paws as if it were extremely bored.
A screech overhead made the motley crew of animals raise their heads as a large hawk landed in the center, hopping over to the fox and making itself a little nest in the leaves of the forest floor, settling down in them and resting.
And then the animals waited. The pounding of hooves soon caught their attention, and they watched as a glimmering white unicorn emerged from the forest, a large lack crow sitting on its back as if it were the most natural thing in the world. The unicorn and the crow then took their place amongst the animals, and completed a beastly circle.
When the circle was complete, the dragon went up on all fours, and began to change. His form grew smaller, and morphed seamlessly into a human. Well…almost a human. His black wings shrank to be in proportion to his human form, and his tail shrank and thinned. His hands were tipped with sharpened black nails, an almost human translation of his claws. The young man’s ears were long and pointed, and all four of his canines were elongated and sharp, making fangs. But the most shocking feature about this young man was his bright gold, slitted eyes.
Then, the others began to change. The panther changed into a rather tall young man with shoulder-length black hair, and piercing black eyes. The fox changed into a shorter young man, a bit too chunky to be considered fit, with dirty-blonde hair and blue eyes. The hawk became a slightly nondescript fellow, with brown hair and brown eyes, his skin a bit pale and his black robes tattered and worn. The crow changed into a man with short black hair and thick black eyebrows, his eyes light brown in color. The men turned to watch as the unicorn became a tall, slender, white-blonde haired, ice-blue eyed young woman, the white fur of the unicorn becoming black robes.
Finally, the wolf became another young man; his hair a natural shade of silver, and his eyes a strange yellow. He grinned at the young woman, showing his sharp and pointed teeth.
The dragon-boy looked around at the group.
“Where’s Black?” he asked. His voice was deep, and rumbled quite like his Animagus form.
The man who had been the panther stepped forward. “If I may, Potter?” he asked. The dragon-boy nodded sharply. “Black has been late to every meeting this month. If he’s not going to take it seriously, then just get him out of here.” He said. His voice was deep, and smooth like silk.
The crow stepped forward. “Don’t be stupid, Snape. You know the only way out of The Unseen is by the oblivion of Death….” He said.
“Don’t insult my intelligence, Dolohov….I know that…” the young Snape said, smirking slightly. Dolohov rolled his eyes.
Just as the dragon, obviously the leader, was about to say something, a small grey coyote came streaking into the clearing, stopping in the middle of the circle. It looked around, and its blue eyes fell on the dragon boy. It whined, and then streaked to an empty place beside the young female, and changed into a human form. The young man had ruffled black hair, and beautiful blue eyes. He was rather handsome, and his robes were clean-cut and looked a bit on the expensive side.
“So nice of you to join us, Black.” Snape said. “We were just discussing the possibility of you exiting The Unseen.” He added. Black’s face blanched, and he turned to the dragon.
“You can’t kick me out! C’mon….James…” he said softly. James growled.
“No first names. This is an official meeting. If you’re late again, I might seriously consider it, Black. Now, sound off!” he barked. Snape stepped forward, and then went down on one knee towards James.
“Tobias Snape, The Panther.” He said.
“Aden Dolohov, The Crow.”
“Perseus Pettigrew, The Fox.”
“Draca Malfoy, The Unicorn.”
“Romulus Lupin, The Hawk.”
“Phelan Greyback, The Wolf.”
“Orion Black, The Coyote.”
“James Potter, The Dragon.”
Each of the group went to his (or her) knees towards James, who stood there looking like he owned the world. When he said his name, the group answered with a resounding “The Unseen!” and then stood.
James looked around, his gold eyes seeming to pierce the very souls of The Unseen.
“We have a mission.” He said simply, his voice rumbling. “We were called together by The Master himself for a very important mission…” at this information, the group inhaled sharply. The Master was the one who had put them together. The Master had never been seen, and conducted their Missions from a distant location. They were all paid well for their services.
“There are rumors going around of an attack on Hogwarts. No one knows who, how, when or why, but that’s the word on the street. We have been assigned to keep Hogwarts safe.” He said. Dolohov stepped forward.
“Isn’t that the Headmaster’s job?” he asked. Snape scoffed at him.
“Yes…but he doesn’t have time to investigate every rumor that goes around…” he said. Dolohov sneered at Tobias.
“Oh yeah…I forgot your dad was the Headmaster. This would have never happened with Dumbledore….or even McGonagall…” he mocked. Tobias’ black eyes glowed with fury. As he started to reply, James intervened immediately. He stepped between the two with his fangs bared, a deep snarl on his lips.
“Enough! We are assigned to protect the school, not bicker like children.” He growled.
Tobias suddenly grinned, an odd look for the normally dour young man. The smile was not of mirth, but of mischief.
“I know how we can get to the school.” He said.
All eyes and ears were to Tobias, and the young man reveled in the attention.
“We’re waiting.” James said finally.
“Well…this year is going to be a real down time for Hogwarts. Most of the teaching staff will be leaving after the first semester. Father told me that the ones that are leaving will be training new staff for the job. If we can get jobs there, we should be able to keep an eye on the school. We all have some sort of degree, it shouldn’t be too hard…” Tobias said.
And it was true. Each one of the members of the Unseen was very smart. They all did well in school, often studying together because they were the same year. It was odd that their ages were similar, but they had all been part of a small baby boom right after the Final Battle. For a few of them, namely Dolohov, Greyback, and Pettigrew, that consisted of their fathers going on a sex spree right after eluding their capture. Since then Antonin Dolohov and Peter Pettigrew had been captured, but Fenrir Greyback remained on the loose.
“But there’s only six positions, and eight of us…” Snape interrupted. “And two of the positions are for the Library.” He added.
“I got library!” Orion and Romulus spoke at the same time. They looked at each other and grinned, then gave high-fives. “Sweet!” they spoke again.
Snape rolled his eyes at them. “Then there’s the Infirmary, Potions, DADA, and the dual role of groundskeeper and care of magical creatures.” He said.
James looked at the rest of the group. “Any takers on trying to get those posts?” he asked. Draca stepped forward.
“I would probably be suited well for the Infirmary.” She said. “I did Major in Healing, with a minor in healing charms and potions.” She added, buffing her perfectly manicured nails on her robe collar. The boys grinned at her. She was a Malfoy through and through, despite the historical upset of being the only Malfoy to ever be Sorted into Gryffindor.
James himself grinned as well. “I think I will take DADA.” James rumbled.
“I want nothing to do with this. I hate children.” Aden said. James nodded at him.
“That’s fine, mate. There’s room for one more to back out. Who else wants out?” he asked. Perseus Pettigrew raised his hand.
“I don’t like kids either.” He said.
“Very well. Tobias, I think you should take Potions.” James said. Tobias groaned.
“Good gods….people already think I’m my father in miniature….what better way to prove it?” he asked sarcastically.
Phelan cleared his throat. “I, being a magical creature myself, would love to apply for Care of and groundskeeper.” He said.
Phelan Greyback was a werewolf. It was a ‘gift’ from his father. His mother and father had both carried the lycanthropy curse, and when he had been born, he carried an altered form of the curse. He could control himself during transformations without the aid of the Wolfsbane potion. But when he had turned four, his father had bitten him during his own transformation, and altered the curse even further. Phelan could now control his werewolf form as the others could control their Animagus forms. Romulus was similar, save that his father hadn’t bitten him. He could only control his form during the full moon, and the other times he had his hawk form.
“We should apply at different times, just to avoid suspicion.” Tobias said. “If we all show up in one big group there will be a lot of questions. But we need to do it quickly, because there are lots of people who want to teach at Hogwarts.”
“I agree with Tobias. Let’s conclude this meeting, and we’ll just randomly apply. No one will know when the others apply. We can start tomorrow, and the latest anyone should wait is two weeks. Now, on a more personal level, my birthday is next week and I expect some great presents.” James said. There were groans from everyone.
James grinned. He loved messing with their heads. “I’m joking, you clods.” He added, chuckling.
“Gods…I motion for close…” Tobias said, running his hand through his black hair.
“Second.” Phelan piped in.
“Very well. This meeting for the Unseen is over. Split and depart.” He said. They all took their animal forms, and went separate ways through the forest.
