The Battle
Lily was in her new home in Godric Hollow, waiting for James to arrive home. She was in the middle of cleaning up the living room. With a flick of her wand, the mops, and paint brushes began to work on their own, as she entered the kitchen to begin lunch.
It had been over two weeks since she sent a letter to Petunia and her parents, her mother had written back, the opened letter sitting on the kitchen table. Petunia had not responded, like she never did. With a sigh, she walked back into the living room taking a seat to relax when she heard a squeak. Quickly Lily shot up to see a mouse scurry across the floor. "Not today!" She said loudly whipping out her wand, freezing the mouse. Quickly, she levitated it outside, and returned to see James standing in the living room.
"Hello love," Lily said with a smiled as she walked over to him, giving him a kiss.
"Hello," James replied, kissing her back, then removed his glasses to rub his eyes. He looked dead, since he had worked a two day shift. Being the new people on the job was always the worst, they always got last pick on hours to work, and with the Order, they were constantly busy. The first year of marriage was the hardest, they were constantly missing one another, and when they were together they were both tired by their jobs.
"Lunch is ready in the kitchen."
"Thank you," James replied and followed her into the kitchen. The place was starting to come together nicely. "The place looks great," he said before delving into his lunch.
"It's a lot of work, but thank you," she replied sitting next to him at the kitchen table to eat. She only had thirty minutes before her shift began at the Order. She didn't think it was going to be too hard since the Aurors had just caught many of the suspects the Order was after. They finished lunch quickly, and Lily cleaned up.
"I have to get going," she said with a sigh, pulling her hair up into a loose ponytail. "I will be home tonight around three."
"Alright love, be careful, the Death Eaters are not happy about all the members we caught last night," James replied collapsing on the couch.
"I'm sure I'll be alright, we have a lot of paper work to do, trying to track down some of the others," Lily replied, then leaned down to kiss him goodbye.
"I love you." James replied the same and Lily disappeared with a pop. As soon as Lily was gone, James passed out on the couch, clothing, glasses and all.
Tonight they were meeting at Marlene McKinnons house, the goal was try to keep the Order moving so as not to be traced easily. Lily arrived three blocks away, and walked the rest of the way to Marlene's house, though it looked like rain, the last thing they needed was for someone to track one of the members and figure out what was going on. On duty was Lily, Gideon and Fabian Prewett, Sirius, Skye, Marlene McKinnon and Alastor Moody on call. She entered to find everyone there already, so she took her seat at the large dining room table which was a buzz.
"What is going on?" Lily asked them raising her eyebrow, the table was covered in paper, and no one had even acknowledged her arrival. She moved to stand over Sirius to see exactly what he was scribbling. It was a map, with names, some written big, others scribbled out.
"What's going on?" Lily asked again, this time aimed at Sirius.
Sirius popped his head up, startled out of his thoughts, "oh hey Lily," he said running a hand through is hair. "We may have found a hideout," Sirius said quietly looking over at the Prewett brothers, who had their heads together in thought, then to Skye. He looked back at Lily who was pulling over a chair to sit next to him, she looked beat, as well as sad.
"Is everything okay?" Sirius asked her as she took a seat.
"Huh? Oh yeah, just tired. This new house is really taking it out of me and James," Lily sighed once again. "His job is wearing him thin. He is always tired, and we barely see each other." She grabbed a paper that was sitting alone, with a lot of writing on it. The names on it were Rosier, Dolohov, Lestrange, and Malfoy.
"So what is the plan?" Lily asked Sirius and Skye.
Sirius replied, "well we think that those four, as well as some others are hiding out in a warehouse on the outskirts of Liverpool. The problem is they are constantly moving, so if we strike it will have to be tonight."
So much for an easy night Lily thought to herself. Just then the dark ominous sky let loose the rain, and it pattered against the windows. Marlene shut the last window, which was blowing the papers about. Lily grabbed some more papers, and began to write everything down, suddenly Doge bust into the house, soaking and panting.
"It's time. Now! They are going to attack if we don't intercept them now." Lily put down her papers, and shed her coat. The less bulk, the faster she would be able to move, even though the job was dangerous, she would not trade it for the world.
Everyone was on their feet now, Sirius and Skye were standing next to one another, The Prewett brothers were leading the pack, and Marlene was cleaning up and hiding all the papers and Moody was talking with Doge. After about five minutes of discussion, they would all arrive at different parts of the area, some in the woods and others in the village. Quietly and to herself Lily said a prayer, and she apparated with a pop. With a rush of wind, and the squeezing feeling, Lily landed elegantly on her feet in the woods.
She could see the warehouse, it was only fifty feet away, it looked run down, and empty, but she knew better. Lily heard a rustle in the woods, it was Fabian, he had just run over from the small village. They exchanged looks, and then the rest of the group was appearing along the forest edge.
All of them began to move toward the warehouse, all from different sides, the idea was to surprise them. On the count of three they blew out all the windows with a spell, and flung the doors open. This was it, Lily's heart was pounding, and her adrenaline was pumping. She ran in through the door, and ducked a spell that had flown at her, the whole place was dimly lit and there was smoke everywhere. She found a death eater, it was Rosier, and he was smirking. Something didn't feel right, then he saw there were a bunch of them, more than they thought.
They were set up.
Oh God, Lily thought. She began to duel, watching her fellow Order members as well, they were outnumbered at least four to one. Rosier started to get near her, and she was quickly dodging, jumping, and yelling spells trying to keep out of the way. She saw that Sirius was up against his own cousin, Skye was nowhere to be seen.
Lily was slowly being cornered as Rosier neared her. She was firing as fast as she could, moving twice as fast but it was no use, he was faster. As Lily dove, she was hit by a stray spell, not from Rosier, and she flew back into the wall, breaking a few boxes as she went. Lily sank down to the ground, bleeding, and dazed. Lily looked up and saw Rosier and Dolohov moving closer.
This is it Lily thought to herself and James pass through her mind. "I'm sorry, I love you," Lily said to herself though it was directed to James.
