Worst Enemies, Best Couple

CHAPTER 1: A MEETING OF SORTS

Harry watched as Erika tried to run after the twins. Ron was laughing beside him while Hermione was shaking her head.

“Come on you two, give Erika a break,” he shouted at the two.

“What?” Fred started

“We’re still enjoying ourselves.” George added.

“Besides, we missed her much.” Fred finished and threw Erika’s bag back to George.

Erika tried to retrieve her bag from George but he threw it to Fred who turned around and made a dash for the corner.

She ran after him and shouted, “Fred Weasley, you’d better make sure that I don’t catch you because if I do I’m going to make sure you won’t be able to make anything new for the shop!” Erika approached the corner and collided into someone.

Harry shook his head when he heard a crash from where Erika was. He quickly followed Erika with Hermione and Ron right behind him.

Erika found herself on top of someone.

“What the fuck! Get off me!” The man angrily shouted from beneath her

She quickly stood up and closed her eyes. Already she knew that she was turning red from embarrassment. “I’m sorry. I’m really sorry.”

“Erika, are you alright?” she heard Harry ask her worriedly.

She nodded her head. “I was just apologizing to this person that I ran over.”

“You don’t have to apologize to a git like that,” Ron said suddenly.

She looked at Ron, Harry and Hermione. The three were all glaring at the person she bumped. For the first time she turned her attention to the person himself and realization dawned on her.

“And why shouldn’t she apologize? She was the one who fell all over me. I think she has manners Weasley, unlike you.” Draco Malfoy drawled as he eyed Erika up and down. “I’m Malfoy by the way, Draco Malfoy.”

“Well, good for you but we really have to go now.”

“Wait, don’t I get something in return for being run over?”

Erika put her arm in front of Harry to stop him from attacking Malfoy. “Again I apologize. Is there anything I can do to compensate?”

“Erika, you don’t need to …” Hermione started but Malfoy cut her off.

“Hhhmmm…so Erika’s your name.” He eyed her up and down again and smirked when he noticed that Harry was seething with anger. “Okay then. Meet me at the ice cream shop at 5:30 in the afternoon later.”

“What!” Harry exclaimed indignantly. She cocked her head towards Harry’s direction and mouthed ‘I don’t want any trouble Harry, please.’ He took a deep breath and looked away.

She sighed, faced Malfoy and nodded her head.

He smirked as he sauntered away from them.

“Compensate? Are you mental? That’s Draco Malfoy! He doesn’t need compensation!” Ron incredulously shouted.

“Oh, was that Draco Malfoy? I didn’t realize it was him even after he introduced himself.” Erika sarcastically answered but she shook her head when Ron gave her a confused look. “Of course I know he’s Draco Malfoy. And don’t shout Ron. I didn’t think he’d take my offer seriously, obviously he doesn’t realize who I am.”

“Are you going?” Harry asked seriously.

She sighed again, “Seriously, I don’t think he’ll show up anyway. But I guess I have to, right?”

The four proceeded to Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes, or The Web as Erika affectionately calls it, to retrieve Erika’s bag so they can continue shopping for the things they need for Hogwarts. The twins were apologetic when they heard what happened and offered to hex Malfoy so good that he won’t be able to go to the ice cream shop later. Erika laughed but declined, saying that she didn’t want to get the two in trouble.

Erika peered at Harry who had been giving her the silent treatment after they left The Web. She gave him one of her sweetest smiles but it didn’t work, he just looked away.

Hermione shook her head at the two as she dragged Ron away to finish their shopping.

Harry started to follow Hermione and Ron, leaving Erika by herself.

She crossed her arms in front of her as she watched Harry leave. Damn, she was starting to get annoyed with him and she still had to meet Malfoy later! Now what patience would there be left to handle Malfoy if Harry kept this up? What should I do to make him stop this silly act of his? She slowly followed the three a little later while grumbling to herself.

“Ron, will you stop whining about going back to Hogwarts and start helping me with this stuff! Harry’s finished buying his and Erika’s books already.” Erika heard Hermione say when she entered Flourish and Blotts. She smiled and approached Harry, “Thanks Harry.”

Harry pretended as if he didn’t hear anything or he didn’t see her. “I’ll just go outside for a while,” he told Hermione and Ron and left without as much as a nod to Erika.

Hermione saw Erika’s eyes narrow and quickly pulled Ron away to a safe distance where she couldn’t see them.

Erika followed Harry out and took a step right in front of him. She leaned over to his face. “Harry Potter you are going to stop acting like I don’t exist or I swear to god I will kiss you right this moment.”

Harry gaped at her. Was this really his friend? Erika wasn’t the type to say those kinds of words. Yes she loved hugging people who were close to her but a kiss? He doubted she would want to give him, her best friend, her first kiss. He snapped out of his thoughts when he heard Erika laughing in front of him.

“You…your face was priceless!” she explained in between bouts of laughter.

He attempted to give her a nasty look but failed miserably and ended up laughing with his friend.

Erika looked at Harry and smiled. “I knew that would get your attention.”

“Sure did.”

She peered at his face once again and bit her lip as she tried to assess if he was still angry. “So, you’re not mad at me anymore?”

“I wasn’t mad at you Erika.”

Erika gave him an intrigued look. “Oh really? Then why have you been ignoring me?”

He sighed, “I just don’t like the idea of you seeing Malfoy later.”

“I see him everyday at Hogwarts and it’s really no big deal.”

“You know that’s not what I meant Erika,” he told her sternly.

She smiled sweetly, “I know what you mean Harry. You don’t have to worry about me, I can take care of myself even if it is Malfoy we’re talking about. Besides, I seriously doubt that he’ll show up once he remembers that I’m a MudBlood.” Erika suddenly frowned when she heard something from her bag. Quickly she took out her new palm pilot and groaned as she stared at its screen.

“What’s wrong?”

“Damn, I forgot that there’s going to be a party at our house. I have to leave now before he finds out that it slipped out of my mind.”

“How about your stuff?”

She smiled, “Can you bring my things? I have a feeling I’m going to be late tomorrow.”

Harry nodded his head, “Yeah, that’s okay with me. Just make sure you don’t get left behind by the train again.”
She waved her hand and mouthed goodbye before rushing away.

Draco Malfoy sat inside his chosen compartment together with his posse. He raised an eyebrow when he noticed that Millicent Bulstrode and Pansy Parkinson where giggling about something. Probably some boy who has caught their fancy, he thought to himself and looked out of the window.

“So, how was your year Draco?” Pansy Parkinson asked as she rested her head on his shoulder.

Draco shrugged his shoulder roughly and gave Pansy a warning look.

Pansy pouted and crossed her arms in front of her.

“You’re a prefect, right Draco?” Blaise queried as he stared at his blonde friend.

He nodded.

“Then why aren’t you in the compartment for prefects?”

“I don’t feel like hanging out with those losers.”

Pansy snorted, “Yeah those other prefects are real losers. The Head Girl this year is even a bigger loser.”

Marcus Flint frowned, “Why, who’s the Head Girl this year?”

“That MudBlood Hermione Granger, I hope she doesn’t give you a hard time Draco.”

“I doubt she will after what happened between us.” Draco smugly said as he gazed at the interested faces around him, except for Parkinson who had a look of disgust plastered over her face.

Marcus laughed, “Don’t tell me you shagged that know-it-all MudBlood.”

He nodded.

“Seems like this is another proof that the Slytherin Prince can have any girl he eyes. That is some kind of talent mate.” Blaise raved and stood up to pat Draco’s back.

Draco was extremely enjoying the attention the others were giving him. True, girls would generally go gaga over me and would willingly throw themselves at my feet just to have me glance at their direction.

“Come on Draco, you didn’t have to shag that MudBlood.” Parkinson scoffed.

“I was bored and she was there. I thought she was going to be a challenge, apparently not. She was nothing but convenient shag.” Draco answered arrogantly.

Their compartment suddenly opened to Hermione Granger whose face had turned crimson with anger. “Convenient shag!” she exclaimed.

“What did you expect Granger? Did you really think that it meant more than that to me? You should be honored that I shagged you what with me being an asset to The Order. I bet your faction wouldn’t have won without my help.” he drawled.

“You asshole!”

Draco stood up, “My, my, my, the Head Girl is cussing. Aren’t you supposed to be an example to the other students? Don’t worry about it. You’re not that bad a shag anyway so if you behave yourself I might just consider having another go with you.”

Everyone inside the compartment laughed and Hermione turned even more crimson.

His eyes darted to the girl standing beside Hermione and his eyes narrowed. So, she’s a student here at Hogwarts too. Hmmm, why haven’t I noticed her before?

Harry stared at the wand at his hand and smiled. Knowing Erika, she’s probably thinking that she lost yet another wand. She can be organized if she wants to be but she can also be so disorganized that she forgets where she just placed some things. That girl is never going to change.

And you love her for it.

I love her like a best friend should love his friend.

Yeah right, if that’s what you say.

He sighed and looked out of the window. Shit, we’re leaving already and there’s still no sign of her! I told her not to get left by the train again.

“I wonder where Hermione and Erika are.” Ron said aloud as he shifted restlessly from the seat in front of Harry.

Harry shrugged his shoulders. “Hermione might be doing her rounds already and Erika might have missed the train.”

Ron laughed, “That sounds just like them.”

Harry’s eyes narrowed when he heard shouting from the hallway of the train. “Now what’s wrong?”

Ron stood up, “I’ll check it out.” He stepped out and followed where the shouts were coming from. A few minutes later Ron rushed back, “I found Hermione and Erika.”

“Where are they? Why didn’t you bring them here?”

Ron pulled Harry out of his seat and tugged him all the way to where Erika was standing a few feet away from a very angry Hermione.

Hermione had her hands on her hips and she was glaring at someone at the open compartment she was facing. “You bastard!” she shouted.

“I’m perfectly legal I assure you,” came the cocky answer from inside the compartment that Ron and Harry easily recognized as belonging to Malfoy.

Hermione quickly took out her wand from her robe and aimed it at Malfoy. Erika was in front of Hermione in a flash with the wand pointing at her chest. “Get out of the way Erika. He deserves whatever I’m going to dish out.”

“Come on Hermione. You’ll only get into trouble and you know that he’s not worth it.”

Hermione’s eyes were still glaring at Malfoy.

“Oi Erika, Hermione!” Ron called and approached them.

Hermione and Erika’s attention shifted to Ron but just at that moment they heard Malfoy shout. “Stupefy!” They also heard Harry shout “Protego,” at the same time from beside Erika. Pansy gave out a shrill cry when Malfoy was knocked down by the impact of his offensive spell with Harry’s shield spell.

“Are you alright Erika?” Harry asked, his wand still pointed at Malfoy who was starting to get up.

She smiled, “I’m fine Harry. Thank you.” Erika looked around her and groaned when she noticed that students were already crowding over them. “Hermione, Ron, I suppose you know what to do.”

The two nodded and started shooing people away and back to their compartments.

Malfoy and Harry still refused to let down their guard. Erika looked at Harry then at Malfoy then shook her head. “How long are you two going to keep this up?”

“Shut up before I hex you stupid MudBlood.” Pansy Parkinson nastily threatened as she stood beside Malfoy.

“Erika, I want you to follow Ron and Hermione.” Harry whispered.

She shook her head, “There’s no way I’m going to leave you alone here.”

“I’ll be fine,” he assured her, still not taking his eyes away from Malfoy.

Erika seriously doubted that he would be okay. Aside from Malfoy and Pansy, Blaise Zabini, Crabbe, Goyle, Millicent Bulstrode and Marcus Flint are also inside the compartment. A bunch of Slytherin students who hates Harry Potter are inside the compartment. I seriously doubt that he would get away from this one unscathed even if he is The Boy Who Lived.

“Let it go Draco. He’s obviously not going to let his guard down and this is getting tiresome to watch.” Blaise lazily stated as he rested his back on his seat.

“You know I don’t take orders from anyone Blaise.” He spat as he eyed Harry with venom in his eyes.

Pansy gave Blaise a dirty look. “You’re no fun Blaise. We’ve already got these two cornered so why should we let them go?” She clung to Malfoy’s free arm and rested her head on his shoulder.

Malfoy finally put his wand down and shrugged his shoulder to get Pansy’s head off him. “Let go of me. Did I give you permission to touch me Parkinson?”

Harry also put his wand down and took a hold of Erika’s wrist. “Let’s go.”

Erika nodded as she let Harry lead her to their compartment.

“Why did Hermione freak out on Malfoy?” Harry asked as they walked back to their compartment.

“Same old, same old. We overheard Malfoy bragging that’s he’s an asset to The Order and he called Hermione a MudBlood.” Erika quickly answered.

Harry stopped in his tracks and turned around to stare at her eyes. “It wasn’t that simple wasn’t it Erika? I know you would never lie to me so I guess you’re not saying something.”

She avoided his eyes by looking out the window.

“Aha, I was right. There’s something you’re not telling me.” Harry let go of Erika’s wrist and turned his back on her, “I’m hurt Erika, we promised there’ll be no more secrets between us.”

Erika sighed, reached for Harry’s shoulder and turned him to face her. “Harry you know you’re my best friend. And I know we swore never to keep secrets from each other. But you have to understand, this is not my secret to tell. This secret belongs to Hermione.”

He looked at her eyes and nodded his head. “I know Erika and I understand. I apologize for pressing the matter.”

Erika laughed and patted Harry on the shoulder, “Don’t worry about it Harry. I’ve been with you for some time now. Naturally I’d know how to deal with a git like you.” Just a few doors away she saw Ron look out and she rushed inside the compartment.

“Did you just call me a git? Why you little…” before he could finish what he was saying Erika had darted away from his grasp and snuck into their compartment. He followed her and heard her laughing inside with Hermione.

Ron was watching the two in disbelief, “What the bloody hell is the matter with you two now? First you pick a fight with Malfoy and now you’re laughing yourselves to death!”

Harry shook his head as he took his seat beside Ron across of which sat Erika with Hermione beside her.
