Hippocampus

A/N: Don’t ask me where this two-part drabble came from! I have NO idea what the plot bunnies have been smoking to come up with this!!

“Mr. Malfoy, Mrs Malfoy – I am afraid there has been a recent development with the pregnancy…” The healer began, only to be cut off by Lucius.

“What’s happened? What’s wrong with the twins?” Lucius cried, wrapping his arms around a suddenly incredibly pale Hermione.

“There’s nothing wrong, but it isn’t twins…” the healer said, once more cut off.

“Oh! Well, I was looking forward to two babies…” Lucius began.

“Yeah, I wasn’t – I’d have to give birth twice at the same time!” Hermione moaned, already showing quite early on.

“Mr. and Mrs. Malfoy, you’re not having twins – you’re having triplets! Are you certain you did not drink a fertility potion?” Lucius grinned before collapsing vertically to the floor in a dead faint.

“No. No fertility potion.” Hermione squeaked, rather reluctant to help her husband up.

“Unfortunately, multiple births result in smaller babies and often do not carry to full term – Madame Malfoy, it is likely that the children would be born perhaps two months early, there just isn’t room for all three inside you.” The healer said.

“Three.” Lucius said, glassy eyed from his crumpled position on the floor.

“They’re going to be early and so small…” he said quietly, wiping his eyes.

“We’ll manage… oooh! I have an Idea!” she said, flooing back to the hospital to ask the healer for advice. Lucius contented himself with a large glass of firewhiskey as he sat in his study.

“But… but… but…” Lucius spluttered on her return and explanation.

“Yes, it’s the thing between your hips and your knees, but I wasn’t referring to your derrière.” She said sarcastically.

Lucius looked stunned, pale and utterly terrified at the prospect of what she was suggesting. “And the healer was alright with this macabre suggestion?”

“Yes, he said it was a realistic way to handle triplets – and as you’re a powerful wizard you’ll be able to manage.”

“If it means the little trio are safe, then so be it.” He whispered, shaking his head; they weren’t even born and they had him wrapped around their collective thirty fingers.

“One, two, three… Hippocampus abdominalis
