Disclaimer:
I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Heredity and Houses
All characters and settings you recognize belong to JK Rowling the Great. I just play with them a little, and make no money from doing so, although I enjoy it enormously.
I didn't know where to put this story, so I plunked it here. The main adult relationship in the story is Hermione/Snape (Ron is just not smart enough for her), but there may be other relationships later, and the main story line is really about my version of the next generation.
FIRST DAY
The Owlery- late afternoon
"Tobias?"
"Here."
"I thought I'd find you here."
"I like the quiet here. It won't be the same with lots of students around."
"They've been here every year, Tobias."
"But Mum, I've never been a student myself, before. It'll be different."
They contemplated that in silence awhile.
Finally Hermione sighed, and ruffled her son's hair. She dropped a kiss on the top of his head, "Everything changes, T. Come along. Your father will be taking you to Hogsmeade soon, so you can ride back in the boats with the other first years,"
In a boat- on the way to Hogwarts
"T, I want you in my house."
"You know you'll be in Slytherin, Ginevra."
"You could be too."
"No, I want Mum's house."
She tossed her red hair impatiently, "Why? You're just as sneaky as I am."
"Yeah, but I hide it better," he smirked. "We need a Gryffindor. Fred here will be in Ravenclaw- he's too smart not to be. Uncle Ron won't like it, but Aunt Luna will bring him around. And Alice will be in Hufflepuff, I think, like Aunt Hannah. Uncle Neville won't care. What will your parents think, though, Harry Potter's daughter in Slytherin?"
She flashed a grin. "I think they're expecting it. They both were close to being in Slytherin themselves."
"Dad would like me there, but Mum would be heart-broken to not have a Gryffindor. It's better with us all in different houses."
"But we can't sit together!" Alice complained.
"So? There's lots of time else to spend together." This was from Fred.
"But it won't be the same..."
"No, but it will be fun," said Tobias firmly. "Look, we're almost there."
The Great Hall -evening
Four names caught several people's attention during the sorting that year:
"Alice Longbottom- Hufflepuff,"
"Ginevra Potter- Slytherin," That one brought a few gasps.
"Tobias Snape- Gryffindor," That brought mutters.
"Frederick Weasley- Ravenclaw,"
The banquet over, the headmaster gave the welcoming speech. As the students were dismissed and the first years headed after the Prefects, a voice called "Mister Snape, a word."
Tobias turned at his father's voice, trying to control his expression.
"Yes, Father. I mean Professor."
Professor Snape leaned against the table and crossed his arms.
"Something you might want to tell me, son..?" he drawled
Tobias tried an innocent look, but couldn't hold it under his father's scrutiny. Taking another tack-"Are you disappointed the sorting hat put me in Gryffindor? They say the hat knows best..."
"They say it sometimes takes...requests."
Alright, straight-forward, then. "I wanted Mum's house. It matters a lot to her. The hat wasn't sure where to put me, so I asked for Gryffindor."
"Hmmm."
"It's better this way, with us all in different houses."
"The better to take over the school?"
His son flashed a half-smirk, half-grin.
"Alright, run along, catch up before they get to your tower."
"Yes, sir."
Snape felt her come up behind him, her hand went to his arm. "What did he say?"
He turned and met her warm, brown eyes, alight with mischief. "He asked the hat to put him in your house, because you care so much," he said dryly.
"Oh, that's sweet," her eyes misted.
"Sweet!" he snorted. "I think our son is planning a coup. With a "cousin" in each house, they can control them all, given time."
"First Hogwarts, next the Wizarding World?"
"I wouldn't be surprised," he muttered.
"He's still your son, even in Gryffindor. Come along to our rooms. I'll let you be as Slytherin as you like."
His eyes smoldered suddenly. "That, Madam, you may come to regret later."
Midnight- the Dungeons
Snape leaned against the door jamb, looking out the small door from his quarters to the quiet grounds. The night was cool, but not yet really cold. Hermione came up behind and put her arms around his waist. "Do you think they are all settled in?"
He snorted. "I'd wager that at least one Slytherin and one Gryffindor are out and about. But I'm sure they have a certain cloak, and a well-worn map to help them. As long as they are discreet I won't have to do anything about it."
"There are people who won't like this, Severus. This mixing up of the houses."
"There are people who didn't like you marrying me, either. Are you worried about Tobias?"
Her turn to snort. "Tobias? He'll be sweet and innocent, helpful, and completely guileless. They'll never even see him coming. No, It's Ginevra I'm worried about. Slytherins can be cruel."
"Indeed." He turned to face her with a raised eyebrow and a smirk.
"Well, they CAN."
"I'm not disputing it, Madam. But she has her father's knack for defense and her mother's facility with hexes. Even as a first year, she is a match for many. I'll try to keep things in hand. I'll just watch who ends up 'bat-bogyed'. That will tell me who's trying to cause trouble. Speaking of keeping things in hand..."
His hands cupped her breasts. The nipples were already erect under her thin nightgown from the cool breeze. He rubbed and kneaded, with an occasional pinch to a nipple, just enough to bring a gasp.
"Oh, you DO have magic hands." she murmured, and he chuckled. He pulled her gown over her head and she leaned against his bare chest, hot in the cool night air. The moonlight slanting through the still open door gilded her body as she reached for him. Her hands found his shaft through the thin sleep pants which were all he wore. Already half erect, he hardened quickly as her hands played up and down.
"Come back to bed, woman, and let me have my way with you."
"You read my mind."
"Some books are easy," he muttered, and she laughed softly.
Midnight- the Owlery,
"So how is Slytherin so far?"
"Haughty, stand-offish. Oh, some of them seem OK, but some of the older ones glared at me. And the portraits muttered as I passed."
"Well, Uncle Harry IS the ultimate Gryffindor. At least other people think so. Will you be OK?"
"Sure. I'll make friends. What about you? It's a wonder Gryffindor Tower didn't explode, what with a Snape in it."
Tobias laughed. "You should have seen Professor McGonagall's face! She looked like she wasn't sure whether to laugh or bar the door!"
"Yeah, your Dad had a funny look, too, to see Harry Potter's daughter in Slytherin. It's going to be hard for him to call 'Miss Potter' this or that. Check the map again. I don't want anyone to catch us."
Tobias angled the Marauder's map toward what little light was available. "No one moving and no one close. So how does Malfoy's daughter seem?"
"Quiet, doesn't give much away. At least she isn't sneering all the time, like her father."
Big yawn. "Let's go. I've got to get some sleep. Tomorrow's a big day."
