Disclaimer:
I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
The Change
I have not finished the seventh book so this would be non compliant with it. I am only on the fourth chapter of the book when this bunny bit me. Also I haven't written a Hermione/Severus story in a while so I figured I would give it a shot.
I do not own HP or anything associated with it. I do own the movies and two of the books though.
Also, any flames will be ignored. This is the only time it will be said, I accept help and will look into any mistakes that people find. If you would like to be aware when this story is updated, please say so in your review.
And I am putting this here, This story has not been corrected by a beta.. I am not perfect, I have not went to collage so this story will have mistakes.
The first chapter is shorter than normal for me but I wanted to get it up and started.
Thanks ShadowandFlamePanther
Chapter 1
Severus Snape was walking through the corridors, enjoying the silence. Finally the "Golden Trio" as they were called had graduated yesterday and after a final night at the school was gone. The Potions Master was surprised but happy that he had gotten his old job back in seventh year. Now he had a blissful three months of silence until the school year started back up. That was unless the Dark Lord decided to attack and then it was anyone's guess.
"Ah, Severus. There you are.", Headmistress Minerva McGonagall said as he came around the corner to enter the dungeons.
"What do you want now Minerva?", Severus asked with a bored sound in his voice.
"I am concerned Severus. Hermione Granger never got on the train to King's Crossing this morning."
Severus rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on. "Perhaps she went before anyone knew, after all the girl is punctual."
"That's just it Severus. She wasn't on the train. Miss Granger, never left Hogwart's."
Severus knew where this was going. "And you want me to go and look for her?"
"I have already searched most of the school. The last place she could be would be the dungeons."
"Fine. I'll go. Just to ease your mind. What should I do if I find her? Call you immediately?"
Minerva shrugged and turned. "That Professor, is your call. I will continue to search the grounds. Perhaps she just missed the train."
Severus walked into the dungeons and waved his wand. The locator spell zoomed directly towards the unused classrooms and he sighed.
Opening the door where the ball of light stopped, he saw her standing, staring at the wall. He opened his mouth to say something snarky but her voice cut him off.
"Is the school empty, Professor?"
"All the students are gone. It is just the professors now."
"That's good. I guess I will be on my way then. Just to let you know, I have a room close to Knockturn Alley. Good day Professor."
Severus leaned against the doorframe, his arms folded over his chest. "Why there? Wouldn't the Leaky Caldron suit you better?"
Hermione gave a dry laugh, shrinking her trunks. "How silly of me to forget, you serve him. It would be simpler for your lord to know my location. After all, I am one of Harry's , she spat the name, "friends. Good day, Professor."
Hermione then walked past him with her head bowed. "Do me a favor. Tell no one associated with him where I am. I trust you can do this."
Severus opened his mouth but his arm started burning, signaling the calling of Lord Voldermort. "I will keep your secret."
"Thank you sir."
Severus apperated out and appeared in Malfoy Manor. He immediately dropped down to one knee and nodded his head to the man sitting at the head of the table.
"Rise, Severus. So have the three gone back to the Weasley's?"
Severus sat down and took the tea from Narcissa. "There has been a change of plans. Miss Granger isn't at the Burrow."
"What?", Bellatrix asked in shock.
Severus nodded again. "She purposely hid in the dungeons to miss the train. During our short conversation, she spat Potter's name with such venom in her voice, a tone I have never witnessed from her. She enclosed her location to me and asked that I didn't tell anyone who was associated with him. And she also remarked it would be simpler with my service to know her location. She not once, raised her head to me the entire time."
Voldermort nodded. "And just where is Miss..er..Granger?"
Severus sighed. "Close to Knockturn Alley."
The women present, being Bellatrix and Narcissa, gasped in shock. "But Severus, why? That is no place for her.", Narcissa said with a worried tone.
Lucius frowned and Draco spoke up. "Obviously, something has happened between the three of them. She went to the one place, neither of them, nor that family will set foot inside. She has distanced herself from them. But why, is the question, unanswered."
Voldermort waved his hand, silencing the room. "Young Draco is correct in his thoughts. Something has happened. Severus, you were the last to have contact, how did she act?"
Severus took a breath. "She acted as if she didn't care and her one laugh was so dry, it was as if she hated Potter. As I said, her voice was full of venom and Miss Granger has never acted that way before. My concern, I am sorry to say, was that she never raised her head to me. It was as if she was hiding something."
Voldermort nodded again. "More than likely she was. Miss Granger is vital to them but yet they didn't seem concerned she wasn't there. I want you to do something for me, Severus."
"My lord?"
"Yes, I want you to befriend, Miss Granger. Find out what is going on. Let me see those memories when you do. I belive you can find her with a tracking spell."
"I will leave immediately.", Severus said, bowing his head again. "Leave this to me, my lord."
As Severus apperated out, Lucius looked over. "You are an evil man Tom. Are you trying to play matchmaker again?"
Voldermort looked over, trying to play innocent. "Who? Me? Now would an evil man do that? I have no idea what you are talking about Lucius."
Severus walked towards Knockturn Alley and then felt Hermione's magical signature. With a sigh he walked up the long stairwell and stopped at a door knocking. "Who is it?", a voice asked.
"Severus Snape."
Hermione opened the door and motioned him inside the small room. "I would say welcome but I know more than likely he sent you."
Severus sat down in one of the chairs, noting how she kept her head bowed. "Miss Granger? What is wrong with you? Your acting out of character and you refuse to meet my eyes. What are you hiding?"
Hermione raised her head and only then met his eyes. Severus' own locked gazes with her and he felt his anger boiling up to the bursting point. "I think, Miss Granger, that you should make us some tea. We need to talk.", he spoke out from his gritted teeth. "I want to know who put that huge bruise on your face. I will not leave till you tell me. Even if it takes days, months or years, I will know."
I do not own HP or anything associated with it. I do own the movies and two of the books though.
