Chapter 1: Anxiety

Chapter 1: Anxiety

Hermione stared up at the large brick wall that lead to Platform 9 and 3/4s. She looked nervously back at her parents. This was going to be in her seventh and last year at Hogwarts. She had grown so much since everyone had last seen her. She hadn’t seen Harry or Ron since the Express last term. Her family had gone on a long vacation to Italy. This trip proved to do her much good after the traumatic experience with Sirius. Although his death had affected Harry the most, she still shivered when she thought of him falling into the darkness.
Looking down at herself observing her converse covered feet, she looked up at the wall again. She had finally filled out in the right places and had sprouted up a good three inches. Mostly in her legs she thought to herself. She’d learn to calm her hair with a simple spell she picked up at a salon in Italy. Quickly she ran back to her parents for a quick hug and promised to send them owls regularly. Why was this so hard this year? she thought. Maybe because she had been appointed Head girl or because they were going to be taking their final exams. It didn’t come to anyone’s surprise when she had received her letter. She had yet to find out who the new Head boy was. Neither Harry nor Ron had received letters informing them that they were given the prestigious position.
Taking a deep breath she calmly walked through the wall and appearing in front of a large red steam engine. She was smiling broadly as she looked up at the familiar train when something hard smacked right into back nearly knocking her on her face.
“Move out of the way! You’re standing right in the entrance!” said the thing.
“Sorry” said Hermione. Turning around quickly and coming face to face with not at thing, but Draco Malfoy. He had changed over the summer as well. He was definitely much taller than she and much more muscular. His childlike scrawniness was gone. He sneered at her with his rugged face.
“Well move Granger!” he snarled.
“Pardon me.” She hissed back at him while stepping aside with a glare. Malfoy stalked off to find his cronies, Crabbe and Goyle. Flustered Hermione rushed off searching for Harry and Ron.
She finally spotted Ron’s red hair on the other side of a wide pillar. Running over she jumped on Ron’s back playfully. He swung around in surprise.
“Hi, Hermione. You gave me a fright.” He said.
“Sorry about that.” She giggled, hugging him tightly around his neck. Hopping down, she gave Harry, Ginny, and Mrs. Weasly hugs next. The warning whistle sounded from the train.
“Off with you four then.” Mrs. Weasly said shooing them away with her hands. “Ron you take care of your sister. You’re the only Weasly there left to look after her.”
“Yes, mum.” Ron grumbled as he started walking off. Mrs. Weasly gave them all kisses while handing them lumpy corn beef sandwiches. Ron looked sourly down at his before stuffing it in his bag. “Bye mum” he said.
Once on the train they found an empty compartment to settle into.
“I have to sit in the Head’s compartment for most of the time.” Hermione said.
“Who do you reckon is Head boy?” Harry asked with a curious look.
“I don’t know.” She said. Stalling for time, she fooled with her bag pulling out the disc man that her parents had bought her for the plane ride to Italy. Replacing the batteries and selecting a CD from her collection she put it back in her bag. Looking up, she noticed that Ron and Ginny had puzzled looks on their faces.
“It plays music” she said. “You put in a disc that has music recorded on it and then you put the head phones on your ear to listen.
“Head phones? You mean those ear muffs have sound coming out?” Ron asked sounding very unconvinced.
“Yes Ronald.” She said.
“So then what kind of music do you listen to? Dudley always listened to that Rap stuff.” Harry said.
“Rock mostly. I enjoy listening to their instruments. It’s different from most of the wizarding music that we hear… well besides the Weird Sisters. Guitar’s and drums just have a harder sound that I prefer to an orchestra. I prefer the sound of the bass, actually. Bass players are so attractive.” She sighed with a dreamy smile. “Well I guess I better be off. I’ll see you when we get to school.” And with that she picked up her bag and exited the cabin.
“What has gotten into her?” said Ron with a wrinkled nose. “Bass players are so attractive.” He squealed, flapping his hand a bit.
“Yeah, I never would have pictured Hermione to be a rock fan. She’s so clean.” Said Harry and with that, he pulled out his sandwich and started stuffing his face.

A/N: Like many other authors, I adore reviews. Constructive criticism is always great, but please do not send me flames. I know that this story is way out of canon (I mean really, the whole Draco/Hermione romance is in itself), but I love the stereotypical fluff that I write. So please, please send me a review to tell me what you think. Thanks for reading!
