Princes in Exile

Hi, everyone! Well, this is my WIP I'm dedicated to currently. I hope you like it and review, cause, well, I really think this one is right up there with 'Unwanted'. I've a couple chapters written ahead, and hope to not make it long *fingers crossed!*

I hope you enjoy, and remember to review!

Princes in Exile

Jennifer lifted her gaze to the sky, her hand shielding her eyes from the glare of the harsh August sun.

“Mom? Daddy? There’s an owl coming right at us,” she said calmly, without removing her eyes from the unusual sight. She felt her mother’s welcome presence behind her.

“Mina, take Jenna into the house. I’ll figure out what is going on here.” Her father’s voice made her turn. Usually, he was gentle and calm. Now, he sounded panicked. His hard voice had her eyes opening wide in surprise.

“Daddy, what’s wrong?”

“Jenna, go in with your mum and help her with your sisters,” he snapped, pushing her after her brunette mother. Mina Prince pulled her freckle-faced, auburn haired daughter gently toward the house. With one last look at the descending bird, Jenna went with her mother, obedient as always. She entered the family room where the three younger ‘princesses’ as their father called the five of them, played together while watching cartoons.

“Where is Emily?” Mina stood in the middle of the room, her hands balled into fists resting on her jean-clad hips.

“Phone.” Marika and Milana, the three year old twins, answered together, their twin black eyes never leaving the television screen. Five year old Serenity watched all in silence, her dark blue eyes taking in everything. She pointed towards the kitchen.

Jenna rolled her eyes and sat with her sisters while their mother rounded up the eight year old who had been supposed to be watching the smaller sisters.

She turned to look back out where her father was untying something from the owl’s leg. She frowned as he snarled at the bird before it flew away.

“Mom, how come that owl left Daddy with something?”

“Damn! Jenna, please ignore what your father’s doing. It’s private and not something for children,” Mina called from the kitchen.

“Alright.” Jenna turned to the purple dinosaur dancing on the television screen, but kept watching her father from the corner of her eye. Suddenly, he was no longer there and her head whipped around. He was gone, disappeared, nowhere in sight.

“… better than to leave the twins and Sera alone. I don’t care what the second grade gossip is this week. Honestly, Emily! If I didn’t know better, I’d swear you were 16 instead of eight!”

“Rather be sixteen.” Emily slumped next to Serenity. Mina Prince entered the family room, pushing her brown frizzy hair from her eyes.

“Mom, Daddy isn’t outside anymore. What was that owl for? Why did it land there and let Daddy take stuff from it?”

“Jennifer Minerva Prince, I told you; that was private. Now, I’m assuming everyone finished her homework?”

Jenna sighed. She hated being home-schooled, but then again, she was almost three grade levels ahead of her dance class friends in town.

Toby gripped the packet of parchments tightly in his hand, crumpling them in his anger and fear. He stalked up the pathway towards the millennia old castle, the front doorways opening as he advanced. The tall woman in flowing red robes stood there now, waiting.

“It’s about bloody time! I was hoping this might bring one of you back.”

“We left this world twelve years ago, Minerva. And my daughter’s surname is not ‘Weasley,’ it is ‘Prince.” He sneered at her. For twenty years, they had been colleagues, but once the Dark Lord had died, Severus Snape had disappeared with his young wife.

“You know the enrollment parchment uses the biological sire’s name.”

“He was nothing and I happily watched him die on the final battlefield!”

Minerva tapped her foot while ‘Toby’ stopped in front of her. “It’s good to see you, Severus.”

“Toby. My name is now Toby Prince. My wife is Mina Prince, and my daughter will not be attending Hogwarts or any other Wizarding school. We’re naught but Muggles. Leave us be.”

The Severus Snape she remembered would have sneered the words. The Toby Prince who stood before her only stated his case clearly, but firmly.

“Se—Toby, please hear me out. Come up to my office, have some tea?”

“I really should head home. The children will--.”

“You’ve more children?” she interrupted with a start.

“Mina and I have five daughters. All of whom are home schooled with no concept of magic. And it’s how we prefer it.” He crossed his arms over his chest, daring her to castigate him for not teaching them magic. All of them had manifested when they were children, but he and his wife had bound their powers so they wouldn’t know about it. It was the only time they used magic: to keep one of the girls from accidentally using hers.

"Arthur and Molly found out about Jennifer. Arthur’s office has a copy of the enrollment parchment. He and his sons have been hunting incessantly for her.”

“Fuck!” Now, there was the old Severus Snape she remembered.

“The Weasleys have no claim on my daughter!”

“She’s Percy’s daughter, Severus.” Arthur’s voice came from inside the hall as he made himself known, appearing just behind the Headmistress.

“Your son raped my wife! The wife I never got a honeymoon with, the wife I held for 18 months while she dealt with your son’s assault on her, mental and physical!” Toby snarled at the Weasley patriarch.

“Hermione could have come to us.”

“Mina and I need no one else. Leave us be, Minister, Headmistress.” Toby turned away and started to walk off the grounds.

“I’ll take it to the Wizengamot!”

“We’re Muggles. It holds no sway over us. Bugger off!” he threw over his shoulder as he hurried off the school grounds. They watched him stalk off, reminiscent of the last time they’d seen the Potions master.
