Yesterdays Memories
The cold night air played softly with Ron’s ginger hair and eased his mind somehow.
“What am I gonna do with myself?” Ron mused to himself.
With a frustrated air, he ruffled his already tousled hair and let out a gust of air. It had been three years since he graduated from Hogwarts and nothing had changed. He still lived with his parents, still worked for Fred and George, and was still miserably unhappy.
He felt useless. During his Hogwarts years, he had dreamed of becoming a world-renowned wizard. Becoming just as famous, if not more so, than Harry. But where were those dreams now? They were slowing and painfully seeping out of him with each new day. He knew he had to do something with himself soon, before he drove himself insane.
He hadn’t seen Harry or Hermione in ages. As soon as school was out, they had both gone off on their own adventures: Hermione to become a marvelous physicist and Harry to add to his already growing fame.
His working for Fred and George was meant to be a temporary thing. A starter job just to get him on his feet. Eventually it became a habit and he was still there, three years later, working for his brothers. It sounded pathetic to him. He was glad Hogwarts didn’t have school reunions, because he was spared the humiliation of telling everyone he had done nothing with his life.
Things had become unbearable recently. As much as he loved his family, he couldn’t imagine living another month in that house. He couldn’t get away from them. He lived with them and then went to work with them. Fred and George constantly grated on his nerves.
That was one reason he was walking the streets in the middle of night. He had to get away. He stopped tugging on his hair and leaned against a lamppost. He wished he could be back at Hogwarts. No cares, no worries. He thought of the many times when Harry, Hermione and him would have midnight escapades. He smiled softly, remembering.
There were other memories also. Of him and Malfoy. There first few years being built on hate and distrust. Even then, he remembered the fascination he had with Malfoy. He had an allure to him that, even while he wanted to punch his face in, he still felt an attraction to him. Nothing had ever come of it, and Malfoy had never seemed interested.
Yet another thing Ron regretted.
Ron walked along the street in front of family’s house. He would have to go in soon, and he dreaded it. Another day to wake up to with nothing in store.
“Someday…” Ron whispered to himself. He had to keep telling himself that.
Someday…
