Chapter I
The Duel
After hours just sitting by the lake, watching the Giant Squid do laps in the warm afternoon, Jade Saleno and Renée Clayworth were bored out of their minds. They sat side by side on the grass after their exams. Clayworth exhaled heavily, “I’m so bored.”
Jade looked at Renée and then suddenly stood up grabbing Clayworth by the arm and dragging her into one of the empty classrooms in the castle, knowing whatever she planned on doing next was best done in private.
“Clayworth, I’m ITCHING to duel.” Saleno smirked as she spoke softly to Renée Clayworth.
“Let’s duel then”, Clayworth said while taking her wand out of her cloak pocket.
Saleno sneered at her, took a step back and bowed down gracefully brandishing her phoenix core wand like a sword. “Ready, Clayworth?” asked Saleno as she stared into Clayworth’s eyes.
“Ready...” replied Clayworth, as she clutched the wand tightly, hands sweating.
Saleno broke into an evil grin and bellowed “EXPELLIARMUS!!” while stepping forward at the same time as Clayworth yelled hers. The spells had hit their targets and sent Saleno and Clayworth falling to the floor with Clayworth cursing heavily.
Saleno quickly scrambled to stand back up and while dusting off her robes, pointed her wand back at Clayworth, somehow levitating her up in the air. Jade Saleno giggled while she watched her hover in the air, twirling.
"Put me down! Put me down!" screamed Clayworth, while throwing hexes everywhere, one hitting a chair and shattering it to pieces.
Saleno began to laugh hysterically, waving her wand about, watching Clayworth twirl faster round and round somersaulting in the air, "Nice knickers, Clayworth!"
“AVADA KEDAVRA!!” Clayworth shouted the curse over and over, as green jets of light shot into objects around the room, always missing Saleno.
“IMPERIO!” yelled Saleno, aiming directly at Clayworth whispering to her with her mind, take the wand and break it Clayworth, BREAK your wand Clayworth! BREAK IT!!
Must not obey... Must not obey...do NOT obey screamed Clayworth in her head while the curse slowly lifted and the shock had hit Saleno. Jade Saleno stopped dead in her tracks while Clayworth hit the floor. Clayworth, quickly getting up, whispered “CRUCIO!”, aiming her wand at Saleno heart.
Jade shuddered and screamed insanely, when someone suddenly banged down the door, "STOP IT!” yelled out the intruder. Renée Clayworth lifted the curse and Jade Saleno lay on the floor panting and in tears.
