Chapter One: The Morning After Death

Sirius Black awoke feeling very disturbed. He was cocooned in sweet warmth that came from sharing a bed with someone and waking up beside them, a pleasure he had not enjoyed since before his imprisonment in Azkaban. It would have been a luxury welcomed if he did not clearly remember the events that had taken place in the Ministry before his waking.

The fact he should be dead was all Sirius’s thoughts could dwell on. He had fallen through the Veil. The images made him shiver. Harry’s desperate cries had followed him as he had descended through into oblivion. The cold claws of death had taken hold in him; Sirius had felt the cooling of his blood, slowing of his heartbeat and the painful last draws of breath.

He had been dying.

How had he managed to end up here? Raising his hands to cradle his head, Sirius searched his memory for answers. He could remember a blurred voice harsh and silky calling to him just before his senses released the hold on the reality of the living. He heard a voice he recognised. That hateful caressing tone calling him, no demanding him to act.

The body beside his shifted. Rubbing a weary hand over his face, Sirius focused on the person asleep beside him. Whoever they were lay face turned away from him with the cover pulled tightly about them, revealing very little. A scary thought crossed Sirius mind, he did not even know with what gender he was in bed with. If it were a woman everything would be all right; he could handle a woman. If it were a man… God help him, Sirius did not think he could handle waking up with a man.

Unless…

Perhaps the Order had managed to save him. The figure in the bed might simply be Moony. It was not like it had not happened before in their days at Hogwarts, Moony had often slept with Sirius or James after the full moon. There had not been anything Gay about it. Just Remus seeking comfort from the two people in the world he trusted most. It had happened to since his escape though it had been Remus offering the comfort.

Remus had on a number of occasions slipped into his bed after he had woken from a nightmare. Although, he would always be gone when Sirius woke. The full moon had just passed; perhaps exhaustion had made him drift off. There was nothing to be afraid of.

“Black, if you do not desist with that commotion going on in your head.” A thick all too familiar husky voice drawled. “I shall have to ravish you rotten.”

Sirius gulped forcefully. His eyes widening at the shocking sight before them. Dark hawk like eyes studied him from sleep tussled long dark locks, as the figure rested on one elbow, revealing a naked chest.

“Good Morning,” the dark eyed man said in a deep husky tone.

Sirius felt his breath coming swifter at a panicking rate.

He was in bed with what appeared to be a naked Snape. But that just couldn’t be!

Fighting panic, he did what all romantic heroines seemed to do in the romantic movies he always hated: Sirius Black fainted.

* * *

Severus Snape watched with horror as his lover fainted dead away before his eyes and off the bed. Scrambling out from under the covers, he was quickly at the side of unconscious partner. Feeling his pulse, he was relieved to find a steady heartbeat under the skin, even if it was a little elevated. Lifting a hand to feel Sirius’s brow, Snape frowned at the feel off cool skin. There was no sign of a temperature. Why had he fainted?

What on earth had gotten into Sirius? He had stared at him with terror written across his handsome face. What had he been so shocked about? He could not fathom what was going on inside the Gryffindor’s head. Surely after a decade of waking up every morning with the same person, you could not suddenly decide to have morning after jitters. With a snort, Snape decided it was probably best to seek out their housemate and see what exactly had gone on last night.

Reaching for his wand, he moved Sirius back on to the bed, where he set about making his lover comfortable. Once the covers were tucked about Sirius, he reached for his dressing gown that hung from the back of the door. Returning to the bed, he cast awakening charm. Sirius groaned and opened his eyes.

“Are you going to tell me what that was all about?” Snape asked.

He saw the “OH Crap!” thoughts pass over his lover’s features as he struggled to make any sense.

“Sirius, I know you are better than those bumbling idiots I teach, with the exception of you godson. Will you know tell me what’s wrong?”

Sirius was caught off guard with the Harry comment. Snape’s voice had seemed to speak with warmth about Harry. But that was wrong. Snape hated Harry. Harry hated Snape.

“Well if your not going to answer me, I shall go have my morning shower.” Snape sniffed obviously offend. “You lazy mutt should get up also, you have breakfast to make for James and Harry, remember? Sirius you did not forget you are taking them out today did you?”

“James?” Sirius muttered weakly suddenly feeling faint again.

“Yes James, your best friend.”

“You mean he isn’t dead?”

Snape slowly sat down again, a frown stretching across his features.

“Oh Sirius, you haven’t been having those nightmares again have you? I told you to tell me. I understand those dreams scare you. They scared me the first time I heard about them. Just remember what Poppy said, they aren’t your life. I know it is frustrating my research has not found a way to close of this other realities memories for you. But Remus and I are trying, my love.”

Sirius felt on shaky ground. His body was physically trembling and he felt unsteady. What Snape was saying made no sense. Somewhere in his mind a connection was forged. Scrambling to his feet, he rushed through the familiar hallway of his childhood home that was as much transformed as he felt. Long gone was the rundown look, it was instead tastefully decorated to the style of a modern family home – airy, light and lived in without being too messy. Seizing the bathroom door, Sirius yanked in open to face his reflection…

Glaring back at him was a younger, much handsomer version of himself. It was as if the miserable twelve years that have ravaged him of his roguish good looks had never happened. Snape appeared in the doorway behind him, the Potions Professor knotted the belt of his dressing gown and leant against the doorframe. In a sexy pose even Sirius had to admire. It was the position he had never quite managed to perfect in his days before prison, the sexy morning after look that said you don’t want to finish getting ready, you want to come back to bed and tussle.

Turning to Snape, Sirius shivered at the task ahead of him. How was he convince the man before him who studied him with a loving, and concerned look that he was Sirius Black, the one who hated his guts!
