Prolog

There were a lot of things that Harry Potter didn't know about the wizarding world, so many in fact that it usually wasn't until after the fact that he realized he should have know what was coming. This was one of those times, although Harry didn't yet know that. In seven minutes it would be midnight, and that would mean that Harry would be celebrating his seventeenth birthday. He would become a legal adult in the wizarding world. He was grateful for once of Ron's big mouth. If he hadn't mentioned that little fact when his birthday had come up, Harry never would have known.

Still, Harry was stuck once again locked in his room at the Dursley's, allowed out once a month to bathe and clean the outside of the house. He often hoped that Ms. Figg would somehow convinve the Order to come for him, but unfortunately she had left Surrey for the summer since her sister (Harry never even realized that she had a sister...) had come down with breast cancer and was very sick. Harry felt bad for most of the summer when he heard that and the first thought he had was that he wished she would just get over it or die so that Ms. Figg could get him out of the Dursley's house. It definitely wasn't his shinning moment.

So here Harry was, sitting alone in the middle of the night, celebrating his birthday in a room that smelled of human waste, sweat, and blood. Where the only light he had was from the moonlight that made it through the slits between the boards nailed over his window. He could hear Hedwig huur'ing softly to him from outside. She hadn't left him all summer save when she went to hunt. Pig had come along with one of the school owls earlier but neither had been able to deliver his presents through the slits in his window, so they had hovered frantically around his window hooting at him until Harry's Uncle Vernon had thrown a shoe out the window at them, nearly knocking Pig from the sky. After that the birds had fled taking their packages along with them. That had been hours ago and still no-one had come to save him. Harry sighed and looked at his watch, it was an old black plastic Mickey Mouse watch that he had found in an alley near the park, only one minute left. Fifty seconds...thirty seconds...ten seconds....five seconds...three seconds...

As the clock in the parlor struck midnight Harry arched his back, eyes going wide, muscles going stiff and firey-hot all at once. His limbs began spasumming and jerked wildly off the bed and onto the floor. His thrashing only getting worse, the pain in his muscles building from somewhere deep inside, rolling fire across his skin. He tried to scream and the muscle in his throat spasmed and closed. Time seemed to freeze and Harry began to think that he would die. He could hear the sound of snapping bones and the distant sound of an angry voice screaming. There was a sudden popping sound and it was as if a damn had broken inside him, power like molten lava burst out of his skin, serring his flesh and the room around him. The tattered blanket on his bed began smoking before bursting into flames. As the floor under him began to burn Harry found himself falling into darkness.

The alarms suddenly going off in Grimwald place startled everyone. People jumped from their seats, others falling out of them. Something had happened.

"Those are the alarms from the wards over Harry's house!" Albus Dumbledore suddenly felt terrified. Nothing should be able to make those alarms go off save a very big attack blasting the wards away. And that should be impossible. "Moody, Kingsley, Severus get Tonks and Lupin.! We have to get to Harry now!"

The sudden sound of four people apparating away was lost in the screaming of the alarm.

When Albus Dumbledore appeared infront of number 4 he nearly collapsed from horror. The house where he had sent Harry was a roaring infurno. And if that wasn't enough the place in the house where Harry's room should have been was a gapping, splintered hole in the side of the building. Albus was so lost in staring at the ruins that he never noticed the arrival of the order members. All were stunned to silence. All around them people were screaming and frantically calling out to the firemen that were fighting to douse the flames.

"Headmaster...they won't be able to put the flames out that way" came a dark silky voice, hushed with amazed fear.

Albus turned and looked at his Potion Master and then back to the flames. "You're right." The fire burned an eeiry shade of green. "Alsator, is there..."

"I don't see sign of him anywhere."

His heart suddenly feeling as if it was clenched in a vise, Albus nodded. "Put the fire out. We can oblivate people after."
