Why love so much
Prologue
Adrean Nightshade was just your average looking American. She was fairly tall, with shoulder length hair so black it was almost iridescent. But what set her apart from the other girls were her eyes. Having one stormy blue-gray eye and one pale red eye. She never really knew her parents having lost them at the age of 4. After her parents disappeared, Adrean lived with her Aunt Lukia. At the age of 5 Adrean found that she was a witch. She was inducted into Dracaena’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There she was sorted into the house Phoenix Fire, the same house her mother was in. Dracaena’s was an all girls’ advanced magic school. They predominately taught magic without the use of a wand though they did teach some wand magic.
Adrean advanced faster than any other student did. She showed great skills in strategy and even in normy psychology. She even became the captain of her house skyball team at the age of 10, the youngest in the schools history. She loved her team and her friends. One summer Adrean found that she would have to leave behind everything she cared about and move because her Aunt Lukia was going to go to a school so she could become a Dragon rider. She would go and live with her Aunt Arikue in England. She would have to go to a new school and everything she knew would have to be left behind, everything but her stuff, memories, and Loalandra, her pet, a large purple and blue lizard cat. If that wasn’t bad enough Adrean’s only source of dreamless potion was back at Dracaena. Her friend Meridicy started to make the potion for Adrean when she started to have horrible nightmares. Now the only person who had the recipe to the potion was half way around the world.
Chapter 1: New School New fools
Now Adrean stands on a train waiting to go to her new school. She waits and watches as the other students’ gathers into his or her little groups. When she saw that there was an empty compartment Adrean happily set her things down and let Loalandra out of her cage. Loalandra had been waiting patiently for Adrean to let her out. Now that she was free she settled down on Adrean’s lap. Adrean herself had her feet propped up on the seat across from her. She flipped through the pages of her photo scrapbook.
Suddenly the door swung open and a woman popped her head in “Would you like anything to eat dear?” She was small with gray hair and a warm smile. This made Adrean feel better and she decides that she would like something to eat. She pulled a small pouch that hung around her neck. Inside the pouch Adrean pulled out some gold coins, she looked at what the lady had to offer, and decided to get two waters and two sprout truffles. When the vendor left Adrean set out a bowl of water for Loalandra and gave her one of the sprout truffles. Loalandra was a rare type of feline, she only ate curtain types of meat and she also ate fruits and vegetables. Her odd eating habits made her very special to Adrean.
Adrean watched in amusement as Loalandra ate with a curtain refinement that Adrean has never seen in any other creature. Adrean smiled and wondered what kind of people she would encounter at her new school. She flipped through her scrapbook again. Adrean was absorbed in her scrapbook and singing to her favorite music group, they may have been normies but she liked the way they sounded. She was so immersed in what she was doing that she didn’t even notice that a small group of boys were watching her.
When Adrean realized she intently started to glare at those who had intruded on her privacy. The one in front seemed surprised by Adrean’s presence and the fact that she carried on her singing even though she was aware of them. He was fairly tall and thin. His blond hair hung loosely about his face almost obscuring his crystal blue eyes. ‘Not bad’ Adrean thought to herself as she studied him with a slight smile. The other two with him though had no hope of ever being what Adrean preferred. They were stout with plain uninteresting faces. ‘Well at least I have an idea about the type of goobers I will have to deal with.’ She thought to herself as she cleared her things off of the opposite seat. She put away her scrapbook and set Loalandra on her lap.
The blond one sat next to Adrean and two goobers sat across from her. Adrean continued to sing and study the schoolboys. The blond seemed to quite happy listening to her.
“Are you new?” Asked the taller goober.
“Have you ever seen me around school?” Adrean asked more than a little annoyed by the stupid question.
“No.” he replied
“Good. This means yes I am new, goober.” Adrean snapped back.
“That was a good one. My names Malfoy, Draco Malfoy, and this is Crabbe and Gorle.” Stated the blond.
“Crabs and Boils, gottcha. The names Adrean Nightshade. I just transferred here from Dracaena’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in America.” Replied Adrean happy that someone here had some refinement.
“So you’re a yank then.” Stated the other goober.
“Crabbe, shut up. Stop making an ass of yourself.” Stated Draco.
“It’s ok, if he does that again I’ll make him into something unnatural or worse.” Adrean stated as Loalandra began to hiss at the two goobers across from her. Suddenly the train lurched forward and began to move. ‘Finally. It’s about time we get moving.’ Adrean thought to herself.
“You can do that? I mean, you’re strong enough to do that?” Asked Draco.
“Yes. Dracaena’s is an advanced magic school. I started at the age of five. I’m almost fourteen.” Declared Adrean.
“Wicked. So where did you learn to sing?” Questioned Draco.
“Nowhere, my aunt said that I get it from my mother.” Adrean said aloud, “Not that I would know.” She muttered to herself.
“What do you mean by that?” Asked the goober Adrean assumed to be Gorle.
“It means both of my parents disappeared or die when I was real young. I don’t really remember them. And my Aunt Lukia refuses to talk about them. Maybe my other aunt will tell me about them.” Adrean muttered.
“Who’s your other aunt?” Gorle asked.
“What do you have bat blood running through your veins. My aunt is Arikue Nightshade.”
“Your Arikue’s niece? That’s amazing. Arikue is one of the most powerful witches in England.” Draco stated astonished.
Adrean and Draco continued to make small talk as the train went along. Occasionally Adrean would glance at the scenery, stunned by the beauty that they passed. After awhile Crabbe and Gorle went in search of the vendor woman, leaving Adrean and Draco alone to talk.
“They’ve been gone a long time. Should we be worried?” Adrean asked.
“No, They’re probably just following the vendor around.” Draco stated.
They continued to chat as the time went on. Sometimes Draco listened while Adrean sang. And sometimes he listened to her tales about her old school. Adrean, herself, was surprised by how ease it was to talk to him. For all that he was, he appeared to be a royal slime ball. She really never had this much contact with guys though. She loved the fact that her Aunt Arikue was willing to trust her males, even though they had never met before. Unlike her Aunt Lukia who for some strange reason wouldn’t let her spent more than a minute alone with a guy.
After a while Adrean became tire, she did after all have to travel by plane first. Draco said that it would be ok if she laid her head on his lap. Adrean by this time was really too tired to consider anything else and quietly agreed that it would be ok. Draco propped his feet on the opposite seat and permitted Adrean to lay her head down. Draco listened as Adrean quietly sang herself to sleep and watched Loalandra curl up next to his feet. He couldn’t believe just how good he felt with her so close.
He smiled to himself as he started to gently pet Adrean’s hair. It was soft like silk, and so black that it seemed to almost absorb light and then release it in a sort of eerie blue sheen. He noticed that her skin was fairly pale and that her lips looked like deep red rose pedals that looked like a heart from the side. After sometime Draco himself fell asleep. He awoke when Crabbe put his head in and told him it was time to change. Crabbe left and Draco roused Adrean and informed her that it was time to change. She sat up with a yawn.
“Did you have a nice nap?” Draco asked as he watched her put on the robes.
“Yeah, it was pleasant. You know you’re extremely comfortable.” Adrean blurted out. She instantly regretted the comment until she saw the blush on his face. She smiled softly as she watched him go. Once Draco was gone Adrean began to giggle, amused by his reaction.
As Adrean put Loalandra’s carrier back into its bag and put Loalandra around her neck, as she so often did, Adrean heard someone outside her compartment. She opened the door and watched as someone nearly fell on her.
“Sorry, I wasn’t aware that you were leaning against the door. I’m Adrean Nightshade.”
“Hello, I’m Hermione Granger. This is Harry Potter and Ron Weasely.” Stated the girl in the group.
“Harry Potter, Griffindor’s seeker. It’s a pleasure to meet you all” Adrean stated with a smile.
“You’ve heard of me?” Asked Harry.
“Yes of course, I try to keep up on Quidditch news. Have any of you heard of the Fire Flyers?” Adrean inquired.
“Who hasn’t. They’ve won the American Division three years in a row. I heard it was because of their captain.” Stated Ron.
“Yeah, I am a good captain. But where would a captain be without a great team.” Adrean stated with a grin.
“You’re the captain of the Fire Flyers? But I thought the captain’s name was Pyro.” Asked Hermione.
“Yes, I’m the captain. Pyro’s just a nickname my team gave me. Guess it stuck.” Adrean said playfully.
“That’s amazing but you’re only what thirteen. How did you become the captain.” Asked Harry.
“I really don’t know. But when I turned ten and was finally able to join the team, they made me caption after tryouts. I play center chaser.”
“Well lets hope you get sorted into Griffindor.” Declare Hermione.
“Yeah, then our team will really be unstoppable.” agreed Ron.
They continue to chat as Adrean Follows them out off of the train and onto boats waiting in the harbor. Adrean told them about her old school and how she loved to play quidditch, which she mistakenly called Sky Ball several times. Adrean was use to referring to quidditch as Sky Ball because that is what her teammate always called the game. For some reason no one seemed to notice Loalandra was there, except for Adrean herself of course, occasionally reaching up there to pet Loalandra.
