How it all started
How it all started
Mrs. Black stood up shifty, everything had to be fine for the visitors, she twisted her mouth looking around the house, again Sirius was lost. It was impossible for her to understand the mentality of her son, he had no pride for the family name, he was nothing like Regulus; she stared at her youngest son and a flicker of a smile appeared on her face.
“Have you seen your brother?” Mrs. Black knew she wasn’t going to receive an answer, Regulus was not going to give up his brother, it was something she still had to work on; apparently all the examples and the comments about Sirius hadn’t worked as well on Regulus as she wanted them to. Perhaps when Sirius went to school and Regulus was alone in the house without Sirius’s influence she would have best results.
“No mother, I haven’t!” Regulus was speaking the truth this time, Sirius disappeared as soon as he found out that some snobs, as he called them, were coming to visit his house “I’m sure he will be here soon mother, father told him this morning to be present when the visitors get here!”
“I bet he will!” Mrs. Black feared that moment, she was sure that his dearest son would do anything to spoil the moment “I don’t know why we’ve been cursed with that boy, he doesn’t seem to notice how important we Blacks are, he does everything just to annoy me; sometimes I just wish that I never had him!”
“Mother don’t say that!” Regulus cried, despite of all this he loved his brother “Sirius is a good brother, he cares for me, he’s not as bad as you think!”
“I see he has been influencing you!” Mrs. Black raised an eyebrow and Regulus lowered his head “You know I don’t like you to contradict me!”
“I’m sorry mother!”
“You’re just too young and you’re influenced by your brother, but believe me Regulus; you’re better than him! Sirius is a bad role model for you; he displeased your father and me! I bet he will be a mess by the time our visitors come” Mrs. Black coldly patted Regulus head “Now go tell Kreacher that I want him to find Sirius in this instant!”
Regulus nodded and quickly went to find Kreacher, he was hoping that Sirius would not do anything wrong to make mother angry, he didn’t want Sirius to be grounded; Regulus bit his lip, sometimes he just wanted to punch Sirius in the face to make him react, he didn’t understand why Sirius couldn’t be more like mother wanted them to be, if only he could make him understand; but he knew Sirius was against everything about the Black family. It took Kreacher just a few seconds to find Sirius, he was hiding in the attic, he had his regular robes and his hair was messy. Kreacher told him to stay in his room until his mother came to see him, Regulus brought him the robes mother had told him to use, Sirius huffed and threw the robes away and started to play with his pillow.
“You have to wear the or else mother will be very angry!” Regulus pleaded
“I don’t want to!” Sirius plopped on his bed “I don’t care if she gets mad!”
“But Sirius, just this time!” Regulus sat on the edge of the bed “This is an important meeting to father, he’s expecting important people and we have to help!”
“Yeah, I heard father, he wants us to entertain their daughter, I bet she’s is an arrogant snob air headed girl that walks all the time raising her nose cause she feels she’s better than anyone else!” Sirius growled “A typical pureblood! … I refuse to be her clown!”
“Don’t take it that way!” Regulus smiled at him, deep inside he wanted to be like Sirius, he admired his courage, Sirius was brave and always said what he was thinking, Regulus was too afraid of his parents’ reactions “Do it for me! Just think that you’re helping me, I know I can’t do it alone!”
Sirius rolled his eyes and stared at his brother, Regulus meant so much to him and he didn’t want to cause him any trouble, he took the robes from the floor and dusted them off “Okay, I’ll help you, but if the girl is like our cousins I ‘m not going to be polite!”
“That’s enough for me” Regulus chuckled and walked to the door “Thanks Bro!”
Sirius took the robes and stared at them, he was really uncomfortable wearing this, mother was always trying to make him a proud pureblood, but for him it was only nonsense, purebloods, mugglebloods, muggleborns, why can’t they all be the same, what was the difference? Besides, purebloods were always the worse and most arrogant people of the Wizarding world. Grumpily, Sirius put on his robes and sat on the edge of the windowsill staring outside, he saw his father approaching to the front door and sighed, he stood up in front of the door of his dorm and carefully fixed his hair with his hands waiting for his father to come to see if he was ready. Sirius felt the waiting was eternal; he was just about to plop in his bed when the door opened and Mr. Black came in.
“I see that you’re ready!” Mr. Black said coldly “I expect that you will behave like a Black!” Sirius muttered something, Mr. Black glared at him and grabbed him by the neck of his robes “If you can’t be a Black at least pretend to be one, if you don’t behave I swear you’ll regret it forever! Now get downstairs and sit by your brother on the living room, our visitors will be here at any moment!” He let Sirius go and added “Remember, I’m keeping an eye on you!”
Sirius went quickly down the stairs, trying to hold in the tears of anger that were running across his cheeks, sometimes he just wanted his father to come and hug him, it would be easier instead of being an arrogant pureblood. Why did he have to be a pureblood? Why couldn’t he just be a regular boy? He wiped the tears from his face and took the seat next to his brother. Regulus tried to ask Sirius what happened but the frown on Sirius’s face told him not to. Mrs. Black was busy making the last arrangements but she turned her head once in a while to give Sirius her most evil glares to warn him about what he could get if anything went wrong. Sirius sighed, it was going to be a long afternoon for him, his hair slipped into his eyes, he was about to wipe it when he heard someone at the door.
“They’re here!” Mrs. Black said wearing something that looked like a smile, Sirius never had seen her smiling and he thought that she looked better when she wasn’t doing it; Mrs. Black gave one last glare at Sirius and took a seat next to her husband as the house elf guided the visitors to the living room. Sirius tried to wear an unexpressive face, the couple that had arrived was just as snobby as his parents; at least that was what he thought.
The man was wearing expensive robes that clearly showed he was filthy rich and well positioned; and by the way his father was receiving him the guy seemed to be very important. The woman who was his companion was wearing excessive jewelry, and walked with her nose up in the air, a perfect example of a pureblood. Sirius frowned again, these was the kind of people he would never allowed to be in his circle of friends, if he was meant to have that, he passed his eyes from his parents to the visitors and felt the urge of puke, he rolled his eyes, he was sure nobody was paying attention to him and he stood up getting ready to go up to his room when he noticed a girl standing behind the woman who had arrived. She was the most amazing creature he had ever seen, she had long black hair and bewitching eyes, he smiled at sat back staring at her, he couldn’t take his eyes apart from her. The girl seemed to be sad, he could see that she was crying a moment before getting there, he felt pity for her and felt the urge to go and talk to her. He noticed the woman whispered something at the girl’s ear and she raised her nose in the air just like her mother, Sirius frowned displeased, another snob girl and he almost went to talk with her. He frowned again and glared at the girl, Regulus elbowed him.
“Don’t screw it up, please!” Regulus whispered and Sirius faked a smile “Don’t do anything that could get you in trouble!”
Sirius sighed and stared at his mother, she was holding the girl’s wrist and stared at his two sons. First she stared at Regulus pleased; and then she gave Sirius a reproachful look “This is Ana, Ana these are my sons, Regulus and Sirius” Mrs. Black pointed at the two boys “Take her to the backyard to play … and remember be nice with her!” Mrs. Black pushed the kids lightly to the back yard. Sirius sat on a rock under an oak tree and started muttering words Regulus and Ana couldn’t understand.
“Are you mad about something?” Ana asked staring at Sirius
“Why do you care?” Sirius replied rudely “Don’t you want to go playing with your dolls instead of getting your big nose in my business?” Regulus opened his eyes wide and stared at Sirius pleading him to be polite but Sirius huffed and climbed the tree “I’m sorry Regulus but I warned you, I don’t like snobby girls!”
“I am not a snob!” Ana replied frowning “And you’re the most arrogant and stupid boy I’ve ever met!”
“Really?” Sirius asked sticking his tongue out “Well I’m glad that you think that, that way you’ll keep your distance with me!”
“I don’t want to be near you ever!” Ana wrinkled her nose, she couldn’t believe how stubborn and arrogant prat this boy was, she sighed and sat next to Regulus, he was looking miserable “Is your brother always like that?”
“He’s a good boy, he’s just mad!” Regulus said trying to excuse Sirius “How old are you?”
“I’m going to be ten next week!” Ana said smiling, Regulus thought she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen and smiled back “How old are you?”
“I’m nine, but I’ll be ten in 6 months … Sirius is ten, he’s going to be eleven in 5 months” Regulus stared once more at his brother who was now climbing higher “He’s almost seven months older than you and a year older than me”
“Yes, I can do maths!” Ana rolled her eyes, it was certainly not the best conversation she would have liked to have “And what do you do for fun?”
“We have a lot of games, chess, checkers …” Regulus started to feel nervous about Ana’s eyes staring at him and searched for his brother’s eyes for aid “Sirius please can you come down now?”
“Alright!” Sirius slide down from the tree and with a jump he sat in front of them “I’m here what do you want?”
“Do you always have to play like you’re the coolest?” Ana raised and eyebrow
