Draco Malfoy entered the darkened chambers of his Lord and quickly made his way next to the curtained bed. The summons was not unexpected, as the once lively Voldemort now counted his days. The best mediwizards available couldn’t even explain exactly why he was on his deathbed, they only knew that his energy seemed to drain more everyday since the final battle.

Ah, the final battle. Draco smirked remembering the victorious day. The day he killed that meddlesome old fool. The day he watched Harry Potter fall to his knee’s in disbelief as his mentors lifeless body hit the muddy ground. The day he delivered said boy to his Lord. Draco had been very disappointed when Voldemort had not simply killed the prat. Instead he looked at his Heir with a small, pleased smile and told him to finish the battle before apperating away with Potter. And Draco did. He brought down every man, woman and child that stood in the way of victory. If they were not killed they were given their own tiny cell in the dungeons deep below Riddle Manor to await their fate.

Now, looking into the near lifeless serpent-like eyes, Draco knew it was time to take his place as the new Dark Lord. He felt no nervousness at the position. Since his time at Hogwarts he had been training for this day. Test after test, he passed easily and in doing so he earned the respect of the Death Eaters. Not to mention their fear. They all knew how powerful he had become and none wanted him to test his new skills on them. He loved the way they all parted to make way for him when he walked into a room and relished in the whispers that floated to his ears when they thought they couldn’t be heard. Whispers that spoke of his unmerciful attacks on the battlefield, his unique torture methods reserved specifically for muggles during their gatherings, and how he feared nothing. The latter, of course, wasn’t true. He had his terrors. He was just taught how to confront his demons while training. The Dark Lord, if nothing else, was a truly magnificent teacher.

“Draco,” Voldemort hissed weakly bringing the tall man back to the present. “It’s time, as I’m sure you’ve guessed, for me to relinquish my title to you.” He paused as a house elf popped in and set a tray of tea next to his bed and waited for the creature to leave to continue. “Before it is done, however, I have one last command.”

Draco gave a slight nod of understanding before replying. “Anything, My Lord.”

The dying man gave a small smile and gestured to a chair next to the bed. “Sit, my boy.” Draco did as he was told and waited for whatever was to come.

Voldemort was quiet for a moment, studying the young man closely. When he did speak, his tone was curious. “Do you know what is expected of you, other than ruling the Death Eaters and restoring control of the wizarding world?”

Draco smiled. “Yes, my Lord. I am to find a suitable mate to bond with and create an heir worthy of taking the throne after I am gone.”

“Good, good,” Voldemort nodded his head in approval. “However, you no longer need to find a mate for I have found you one. All that is required of you is to produce an heir.”

Draco narrowed his eyes in confusion. “Who, my Lord?”

The Dark Lord smiled. “Harry Potter.” He held his hand up to stop the reply that he knew would be coming. “Before any objections are made I want you to go see the boy. I believe you will be pleasantly surprised.”

Draco took a deep breath to control the anger that was now surging through his body. He would NOT bond with Harry fucking Potter, whether his Lord wanted it or not! He could only imagine the hideous children that prat would pop out. He leaned forward and said, “My Lord, I just saw him a month ago. You do recall me delivering him to you, do you not? What could possibly have changed him so drastically in a month that would have me consider this?”

Voldemort crackled madly. “Such fire, my young dragon. So refreshing hearing it.” His smile widened. “As to what has changed, there is much. His defiance is still the same, yes. But that can easily be taken care of with a bit of training. A job you might just come to enjoy, I might add. His appearance, however, is not what you will expect.”

His grin became amused. “It seems that Mr. Potter is a bit insecure when it comes to what people see on the outside.”
