This is a response to Shadow’s challenge of What if Hermione was sold as a slave to the Malfoy family and both father and son have some fun with their new toy??? There may or may not be some LM/DM slash, but I'm not sure yet. If there is it will be in later chapters.
To The Devil’s Doorstep
How could this have happened? Hermione was a very educated witch. She graduated from Hogwarts at the top of her class, not to mention how well she did at University. She knew that since the Dark Lord hadn’t been defeated yet that nothing was right but she never expected this. How in the hell is it that she, Hermione Granger, could possibly be sold into slavery. All because she was muggleborn.
When she first was told that the Ministry had allowed the muggleborns to be sold into slavery, she was mortified. She immediately went to the Order to ask who had come up with this idea.
As she entered Number 12 Grimmauld Place, she was in a fiery temper. She was going to demand some answers and wouldn’t let up until she got them. There were quite a few members of the Order there when she got there. The Weasley’s were there, of course, as were Tonks, Harry, Remus and to her surprise Dumbledore was there too.
“Pardon me Professor Dumbledore, but who the hell came up with the legislation to make muggleborns into slaves?” said Hermione with more than a hint of fury in her voice.
“I assure you Hermione, that we’ve done all we could to stop this law from passing. But alas, it hasn’t been successful as of yet. Hope is not lost though, we are still trying to repeal this atrocity of a law.” Said Dumbledore, trying to soothe Hermione’s frazzled nerves.
It didn’t work and her question wasn’t answered so she repeated it.
“Who came up with this law Professor?” she said.
“Well, if my sources are correct Hermione, it was Lucius Malfoy who put the thought in the Minister’s head. And sealed the deal with a good bit of gold I’m sure.” he replied.
“Malfoy!” she spat out. “That smarmy bastard! I’m sure we can figure out what he wants a muggleborn slave for, can’t we.”
Molly Weasley went to Hermione to try and comfort the young girl who felt like a daughter to her.
“Now Hermione dear, we are going to do everything in our powers to get this law repealed and hopefully it won’t affect you at all. The pureblood wizards have to petition to pay for the witch or wizard they want.” said Molly.
“Yeah, ‘Mione, maybe nobody will want you for a slave. You are a bit of a fright when you get angry and who wants that in a slave?” chirped Ron, also trying to make his friend feel better.
Hermione couldn’t help but laugh at her friend’s comment. Ron was blunt and sometimes a bit hapless, but maybe in this case he was right. Although when she looked over to Harry who was sitting at the table and he hadn’t said a word, she was sure that he was thinking something much more sinister.
And speaking of sinister, it was at that moment that their former Potions Professor, Severus Snape billowed into the house. He didn’t look happy at all, but then again when did he?
All the elder members of the Order greeted him semi-cordially. Snape wouldn’t let anyone truly treat him cordially. He demanded respect from the very core of his existence. His peers and ex-students all knew this.
“Severus, any news for us?” asked Professor Dumbledore.
“I’m afraid I do have some disturbing news Professor. Could I please speak to you in private?” replied Snape.
“Certainly Severus. Let’s adjourn to the sitting room, shall we?”
“Yes, Sir, I believe that to be best”
As the two wizards left the kitchen to head to the sitting room, the Golden Trio looked at each other apprehensively. Something big was going on and they could feel it.
Molly went about busying herself, deciding it was time for lunch and quickly began making sandwiches for everyone. Nobody felt quite like eating, except of course Ron, who could eat anytime no matter what. But it did keep everyone occupied, even if they were going about eating half-heartedly. Tonks tried brightening up the mood by metamorphosing her face into what looked strikingly like a doxy face. It garnered a few chuckles and that helped some.
Meanwhile in the sitting room Albus and Snape were discussing the disturbing news.
“Professor Dumbledore, at last night’s Death Eater meeting I overheard something that was disconcerting to say the least” Snape started.
“Please don’t keep me in suspense, Severus?” replied Albus.
Snape continued. “The Malfoy’s are putting in the petition to purchase Miss Granger as we speak. They believe she will be a worthy toy for whatever sick purposes they have in mind. This cannot be good sir.”
“I agree Severus. I fear that hearing this news may just put Miss Granger over the edge. She is already livid at having to be a slave, and rightfully so. Well, I shall bring her in here to tell her. That way she can inform her loved ones on her own.”
Professor Dumbledore left to bring Hermione into the sitting room. She looked bleakly from the Headmaster to Snape, wondering what in the hell was going to happen to her next.
“Hermione, Professor Snape has indeed come back with some disconcerting news and unfortunately dear child, it concerns you greatly.” Dumbledore said to Hermione.
He continued, “It seems that as we speak, the Malfoy family is petitioning to purchase you.”
Hermione sank down in her seat as low as she could. Her first instinct was to break down and cry, but she was stronger than that and knew that tears would not help this situation. She sat up straighter and put a certain set in her jaw, steeling herself for whatever would come. She would not be driven to tears, especially not for the Malfoy’s. She turned to look at her former Potions professor, who gave her a brief nod, letting her know that it was indeed true. She nodded back and turned to the Headmaster.
“When will this take effect sir? How long will I have before I am shipped away to Malfoy Manor and degraded? Hermione said with a note of acid in her voice.
“The paperwork will be effective immediately upon Lucius signing it and you will receive your indenture papers by owl within hours of signing. Unfortunately child, they want to leave no time for anyone to run off after they have been purchased, so you have a mere 24 hours to ready yourself and arrive at the manor. I’m truly sorry Hermione.” replied Dumbledore.
“Is that all Professors?” she said as she looked from Snape to Dumbledore.
“Yes Hermione. We understand you have much to do and to think about. If you need to speak to anyone please know I will always be available to you.” Dumbledore said.
“Thank you very much. Now if you don’t mind I really do have an awful lot to do, especially if I am to arrive at the Devil’s doorstep tomorrow.” she said rather snarkily as she turned on her heel and left the room. Her attitude towards the whole thing made the Potions Master quite proud and he gave a small smirk, thinking that maybe she could survive Lucius and his family.
