Basilisk

Chapter One: Ron’s inability to see.

The fans were screaming, chanting Basilisk. Ron stood in the wings of the stage. The gig venue was only small, but filled to the brim with teenage muggle rockers all here, to see the band of which Ron was a member. There was Seamus Finnegan on drums, Draco Malfoy on bass, him on lead guitar and Harry Potter on guitar and vocals. The four nineteen year olds had been playing together for about five years now and had scored a record deal about two years ago, about two months after graduating from Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry.

Draco handed Ron his guitar. The blond look stunning in a pair of black leather pants and a silk silver shirt, and the black around his eyes finished off the ensemble perfectly, making the greyness of them stand out. Ron nodded his thanks to the other boy. There had been a time when the two had hated each other. However, all that was behind them now; which was a good thing considering Draco was now in a serious relationship with one of Ron’s best friends, Hermione Granger.

“Looks like a good crowd,” Draco said.

Before Ron could reply, Harry and Seamus joined the two boys and they were given the cue to get out on stage and play their hearts out.

The stage was dark, the crowd was still chanting and the sudden rush of nervous excitement that only hit Ron seconds before a performance, smacked him square in the chest. He held his plectrum up by his guitar strings, waiting for his cue to come through his earpiece. As soon as he heard the ‘now’, he smacked out the first guitar chord as the lights flew on and the stage exploded with colour and sound.

Ron lost himself in the music, the sweet sounds of Harry’s voice drifting through him. This is were Ron loved to be, on stage with his three best friends, playing his guitar to a live audience. Nothing had ever felt more right to him.

Harry turned to give Ron a dazzling smile after they finished their final song. The crowd was cheering loudly, and all that could be seen was a sea on rock hands.

“Goodnight!” Harry spoke into the microphone as the band departed from the stage.

The four sat, exhausted, in one of the back rooms of the venue. Ron grabbed the bottle of vodka and the bottle of coke and proceed to pour himself a drink, which we instantly downed.

Tim, the bands tour manager, entered the room. “Ready to meet some fans guys?” he asked. “They’re competition winners.”

“Send ‘em in,” Seamus grinned, he loved meeting the fans.

Two teenage girls, who looked about fifteen or sixteen, walked into the room. One had blonde hair with blue streaks and the other had pure jet-black hair. Both were dressed head to toe in black.

“Hey,” Seamus greeted them. “Enjoy the show?”

“Stop fishing for compliments, Finnegan,” Harry teased. Seamus pulled out his tongue at the raven-haired singer.

The two girls giggled. “It was awesome,” said the blonde.

“So, you girls have names?” Draco asked.

“I’m Heather and this is Amber,” the black haired girl introduced.

“Pleasure to meet you both, please sit down,” Draco gestured to one of the sofas, which the girls plonked themselves down on.

“So, you girls have anything you want to know?” Ron asked, he never knew what to say when meeting fans and was always scared of making a fool of himself.

“Well we were just wondering if you would all sign these.” Amber asked, shyly holding out two copies of the bands second, and latest, album.

“Sure,” Ron smiled. Reaching into Harry’s bag beside him, he pulled out a small black marker, and took the CD’s off the girl. After signing them, he passed them onto Harry.

They chatted with the girls for the next half an hour, mainly discussing new singles and the tours the bands would be doing.

After the two girls had left, the band headed to their tour bus. Hermione, who was already on the bus, had fallen asleep on the bed she shared with Draco. Seamus and Draco both turned in for the night, leaving Harry and Ron alone in the living compartment. The boys sat down at the table just as the bus jerked and set off.

“Fancy a drink?” Harry asked Ron who nodded.
“Great show wasn’t it?” Ron asked, as Harry handed him a vodka and coke.
“Fucking Awesome,” Harry replied, sending Ron his dazzling smile for the second time that evening.
“Mum called this morning,” Ron said. “Two years and she still can’t use that telephone properly; she must have cut me off about four times. Anyway, she wants us all to go to The Burrow next week for dinner, when we’re near there.”

“Sounds good, no one can refuse that women’s cooking,” Harry replied. “And no getting at your mother for not being able to use the phone. I remember a certain son of hers taking ages to get used to it,” he teased.

Ron grinned, “Fine, fine, no getting at her. I promise.” Ron loved just talking to Harry. They’d known each other for a long time now and Ron always felt comfortable in the other boy’s presence. Harry had been the first person to see Ron as just Ron and not just another Weasly.

“So, when are you gonna get a girlfriend, Harry?” Ron asked. The brunette hadn’t dated at all since leaving high school.

“So, when are you gonna get a boyfriend, Ron?” Harry countered, with a smile. Okay, so Ron hadn’t exactly dated much since leaving high school either, but he was happy with his life just the way it was. They both burst into laughter.

“Looks like we’re both destined to be single forever,” Ron said, as the laughing died down.

Harry adopted a small, sad smile as he gazed at Ron. “Have you ever been in love?” he asked.

“Love?” Ron thought for a moment. “I once thought I was in love, but…” Ron shrugged his shoulders. “How about you? Have you ever been in love?”

“Yeah,” Harry simply replied. “It isn’t returned though, at least not in the way I want it to be.”

“You’re in love with someone now? You never mentioned anything, or should I say anyone? So who is she?” Ron asked, feeling a weird sensation in his chest. One that he tried to rid himself of by downing the rest of his drink.

“Someone you know, someone you know really well. I’d rather not say who they are. It’s someone I’m already very close to though,” replied Harry, never taking his eyes off Ron.

The redhead was puzzled. He just couldn’t think of any females who Harry could be in love with. The only two he could come up with were Hermione, whom he didn’t think Harry saw as more than just a friend. The other was his sister, Ginny, but Harry hadn’t seen much of Ron’s female sibling in the last couple of years.

“I really can’t figure out who it could be,” Ron said, his face still screwed up into an expression of utter bewilderment.

Harry rolled his eyes, “just forget I said anything. I’m going to bed.” The raven-haired teen left the room, without even saying goodnight.

Ron sat stirring out of the window at the night’s sky. It was just as his life was at the moment… filled with only a few bright stars. The brightest of which had just walked out, in what seemed like a very pissed off mood. Ron couldn’t think of anything he could have done to piss Harry off. So he hadn’t been able to guess who the object of the other boy’s affection was. So sue him!
