Chapter 1: Shattered/ Don’t Stay

Everyone looked at the girl who passed by. Only one name passed through their minds: Hermione Granger. She was upset now. Her boyfriend for 3 and 1/2 years, Harry Potter, the-Boy-Who-Lived, had not met up with her. She had asked her longtime friend, Ronald Weasley, if he knew where they were. His answer was, “Studying with Gin in the Room if Requirement.” She was now on her way there.

Sometimes I need to remember just to breathe
Sometimes I need you to stay away from me
Sometimes I’m in disbelief I didn’t know
Somehow I need you to go

Her aura was pulsing. She was afraid. She had noticed a few things changing about Harry and his physique being one of them. Need she be reminded, he was on the Top Five Sought After Guys in Hogwarts, filling the number 1 spot, Draco Malfoy right behind. She stood in front of the Room of Requirement door, hoping to herself that Harry had remembered he had a girl friend.

Don’t stay.
Forget our memories.
Forget our possibilities.
What you were changing me into...
Just give me myself back and...

Opening the door, her eyes watered. Her boyfriend and best friend were naked on the bed, making noises into each other\'s mouths.

“Studying.” She said. Ginny and Harry looked up, faces twisting into shock. She clenched her fists angrily at her sides upon seeing the way Ginny’s marvelous red locks were disheveled.

“Studying! Studying Ginny’s anatomy doesn’t count, Harry!” The sound in her voice increased with each word. She felt cold tears running down her face. No, she told herself, I’m just a bit hot in the face. She shook her head angrily.

“Why did you have to do this to me?”

Don’t stay.
Forget our memories.
Forget our possibilities.
Take all your faithlessness with you...
Just give me myself back and don’t stay...

“I thought you cared.” She hung her head, her soft toffee locks cascading over her tear-stricken face.

“I thought...” She began crying silently, sapphire tears dripping down her face. “I thought... you loved me.”

Harry tried to answer. “I do love--”

“No!” She shouted, anger filling her voice. The soft, concerned Hermione had turned angry and upset.

“Don’t you dare finish that sentence!” She said. “You know what Harry? I hate you. You hear that Harry? I’ll say it louder. I hate you Harry James Potter!” She ran from the room, running straight into Ron. She was in a daze, as she looked up into Ron’s eyes.

Sometimes I feel like I trusted you too well
Sometimes I just feel like screaming at myself
Sometimes I’m in disbelief I didn’t know
Somehow I need to be alone

“Ron!” She cried out.

“Ron, hold her there!” Harry yelled to him. He couldn‘t let her leave, not yet.

“No Ron....” She pleaded. “Please let go of me! I don’t want to talk to him, I don’t!” Ron felt his heart break. His best friends were here, in an argument, and he had to be the lever. He felt horrible. If he had been in Hermione’s situation, he would’ve downright killed himself. He let her go, and she started to run swiftly down the corridor.

Don’t stay.
Forget our memories.
Forget our possibilities.
What you were changing me into...
Just give me myself back and...

Hermione slid to the floor in the middle of the hallway. She refused to believe it. ‘But it’s true.’ She shook her head and let out a whimper. Soon, her wails filled the hallway as she tried to compose and grasp the prospect of what happened. Harry, her loving boyfriend, had cheated on her. With Ginny. No doubt he had done it before.

Then, suddenly, Hermione remembered all the times Harry had said he was with Ginny, or had come back from seeing her. She sobbed. She should’ve noticed then, damnit. She was supposed to be smart, why couldn’t she just accept that he might have had some kind of pent up feeling for her. Or, she thought, that Ginny had never given up her crush on Harry.

I don’t need you anymore.
I don’t want to be ignored.
I don’t need one more day.
Of you wasting me away.

Hermione sighed and wiped her tears. She forced herself to stop crying. She’d have to get over it, eventually. Realizing she had been in the same spot for a long time, she got up and ran. It was the only way she could ensure that she wouldn’t stop and sit down. Stumbling down the hallway, Hermione swore as she felt tears coming over her again.

I don’t need you anymore.
I don’t want to be ignored.
I don’t need one more day.
Of you wasting me away.
With no apologies...

She found that it was only around 6:30 and she was now on the ground floor. Knowing that people were probably inside the Great Hall, she didn’t want to be seen like this. Discomposed and upset. Moving away from the entrance hall, she quickly resorted to going to the fourth floor.

Don’t stay.
Forget our memories.
Forget our possibilities.
What you were changing me into...
Just give me myself back and...

The fourth floor held the library along with the ever-famous haunted girls’ toilet. She walked stiffly into the library. All the way in the back, she drew a book on Arithmancy and sat at a table. Propping the book open, she tried to stop her tears from falling into the book, but she couldn’t.

Don’t stay.
Forget our memories.
Forget our possibilities.
Take all your faithlessness with you...
Just give me myself back and don’t stay...

Hermione couldn’t read the book. Her mind was foggy, her eyes were red and ached of angry tears, and her heart was cracked and broken. She stood from the library table, knocking the chair to the floor with a bang. She didn\'t bother returning the chair to an upright position, or putting the book back on the shelf. This was the point, her warm exterior shattered.
