Prologue

Thomas-
Life is at best a war; a constant battle between what we want and what is achievable. It is in this hour that I fin myself thrown, most despairingly, into this internal conflict.
There are times when I am content to simply be average. But those time are few and far between. For the most part I feel empty, lost, and trapped in and by the day to day. It is in these times that I willingly give myself over to the unknown, what most would call the impossible. For this I have earned the title of hopeless dreamer.
Perhaps I am a dreamer, but I am not hopeless. It is my duty in life to become great, to develop all that is inside of me. It is a road that is dangerous to the mind and enriching to the soul.
You may ask, “what has this to do with me?” The answer is really quite simple. I want the extra-ordinary, the impossible if you will. You have a heart so firmly planted on this earth. You may find contentment where you are. I cannot accept such small joys; which are to you so real.
Your goals are honorable, make no mistake, but they are not my own. I must know the world and taste every inch of this Earth. I would only leading you around if you were to ever accept my transient lifestyle. I need someone that is willing to be every bit as detached and nomadic as me. I do not see that flare inside of your eyes. I cannot feel the dramatic in your touch. You need someone more grounded, more accepting and that is not who I am.
I could go on and tell you how much the time we had meant to me but that is far to cliché. I did love you once, but my heart is as tumultuous as the sea. It’s desires and needs ever changing as the tide.
I hope for you the best and leave with you a parting kiss. Know that you name will always dance across my lips and linger in my soul.
Most Sincerely,
Eloise Aribella Smiths

That was that could be said to the man she had once loved so much. There was a time when she would have subdued her urges to leave; staying only because of the safety he could offer her. That time was quickly passing; and a war, once foreign to these shores, has come upon the American Wizarding Nation like tidal wave. More and more deaths were a sign of the changing hours, and the safety her muggle love could offer her had disappeared. Now was the day of involvement, they had passed the point of turning their heads, and closing their eyes. The counsel, now, was faced with the rising climate of conflict.

Eloise had served her government, been maid to the counsel since she had turned 18. Now she was 22 and things were beginning to change. They needed her to travel to Scotland and observe a most fearful adversary, one that threatened their very way of life. It was a mission that meant the end of another of Eloise’s lives, and the beginning of a new adventure. She was only to happy to go, it had been two years since her last position, and her last one had been nowhere near as risky as this one promised to be.

So it was with hope that Eloise gathered her bags and familiar, leaving a honey scented note upon her vanity. One that simply read “Thomas” in large, red lipstick letters. As she turned to leave her one time home her own words drifted threw her mind, ‘ I did love you once….’
