Disclaimer:
I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Twilight of the Gods
Disclaimer: I don’t own characters from J. K. Rowling’ s books and I do not own mythological characters – I used Viking, Celtic and Slavonic mythology and small parts of Christian mythology. Some of these mythological characters took very strong personalities from another books or movies. So I do not own Metatron from the “Dogma” movie, vampires from Anne Rice’ s books, demon Crowley and angel Aziraphale from the “Good omens” book by Neil Gaiman and four riders of Apocalypse, especially Death, which suspiciously resemble those of Terry Pratchett’ s books.
Twilight of the Gods
Prologue
Hermione walked through chilled corridor of Hogwarts. Her eyes were full of tears, as she came right from Dumbledore’ s funeral. Her mood was grim. Maybe she walks these halls for the last time in her life with all these talks about closing of the school. Suddenly she saw Professor Trellawney murmuring something under her breath. Hermione could clearly smell cheap alcohol. Professor turned to Hermione and started clearly recite:
“Garm bays loudly before Gnipa cave,
breaks his fetters and freely runs.
The fates I fathom, yet farther I see:
of the mighty gods the engulfing doom.
Brothers will battle to bloody end,
and sisters\' sons their sib betray;
woe\'s in the world, much wantonness;
axe-age, sword-age, sundered are shields
wind-age, wolf-age, ere the world crumbles;
will the spear of no man spare the other.”
“What are you talking about, Professor?” asked confused Hermione, but Professor McGonagall interrupted her:
“Yes, that’s it, Trellawney! We need them. We need their help. With them we have pretty good chance against his army.”
Trellawney only drunkenly looked at her and went away murmuring something about chilly winter coming upon the world.
“Do you know, Miss Granger, what our seeress quoted? She’s just genial.”
“No, Professor. Something that can help us defeat Voldemort?”
“Precisely, Miss Granger. Think. Lord Voldemort made alliance with giants, vampires and werewolves. Do you know, who are the most dangerous enemies of all these creatures?”
“No, I’ve never heard of such beings.”
“Damned Christianity! And shame on you. Don’t you know the European Gods? Asir? Thor, the Giant slayer? Odin, who kills vampires? Trellawney quoted Seeress’ s Prophecy – Viking poem of the beginning and the end of the world.”
“I read something called Edda, now I remember. Seeress’ s Prophecy is part of Edda. But Professor, they are just mythology, they are not real!”
“Real enough to be called. Have you ever heard phrase The Wild Hunt?”
