Chapter One: The Line Between Life and Nightmares

\". . . mine. \" Darkness stretched on throughout eternity. With all vision blocked the torment harrowed the other senses.

\"No! No, I\'m not!\"

\"Forever mine.\" Reeking blight upon his ears, the impending voice remained barely above a whisper. The oddity of whispers contending screams echoed mockingly in the dark hollow space.

\"No! Stop it!\"

\"Always mine.\"

\"STOP! PLEASE!\"

\". . . Forever and Always.\" Even in darkness, the smile showed through the voice.

\"Harry? . . . Is it Tom again?\" Still gasping Harry glanced around the room realizing he was in Draco\'s room. Resting his head in his hands, Harry took several deep breaths and searched for some semblance of an answer. Then browsing the ceiling, hoping for the answers his hands had apparently not given.

\"Harry?\" Draco muttered from across the bed, trying to understand what was wrong.

\"Umm . . . yeah, I think.\" By now Draco had gotten up from his sleeping position. And was looking at Harry.

\"But you had one last night, I thought you only got these once in a while? . . . That\'s not the point. He\'s gone, Harry, we watched him, no ones going to survive a fall like that, and all those snakes.\"

\"Yeah, you\'re right . . . Um, s-sorry to wake you up.\" Hoping he would convince Draco with his poor guise of comfort. Already laying down Harry tried to stop his rapid heart rate, observing the shadows of the room only furthered his suspicions, and preceded to make him shudder. Gathering up the covers, Harry pulled them up to his neck hoping to hide from anything that might be searching for him in the night. Familiar arms chased away the chills going down Harry\'s back, as a warm chest pressed against his face.

\"Its okay Harry. He\'s gone.\" Smiling Harry nodded, burring his face further into Draco\'s inviting warmth. Already starting to drift away, drowsy from the defense of Draco\'s arms, Harry soon forgot the terrors of shadows and voices in the dark.

\"I\'ll be back in three weeks,\"

\"I know.\" Harry laughed.

\"And if you have any more ‘dreams\' your going to write it in your letters, and I swear I\'ll come strait home.\"

\"I know!\"

\"And no matter what clever excuse he uses, if Cedric is bothering you-\"

\"-Ill write you! Yes, I know, I know!\"

\"Alright,\" Draco smirked.

\"The sooner you leave, the sooner you come back!\"

\"And the sooner I come back, the sooner we have hot, frantic-\" Covering Draco\'s mouth with his own Harry quickly stopped the embarrassing comment from fruition.

\"I think that\'s enough, dear.\" Harry grinned.

Amazed with his acting abilities Harry paced around the room, avoiding the nightmares. Hastily landing in a chair, he pondered his actions. Sitting in the large armchair, green eyes stared into the fire, the reflection of the kindle glowing in his glassy eyes. What was he to do? Not sleep for the next three weeks? He had no idea.

Harry had no intention of writing to Draco about the dreams. In fact, he didn\'t want to really write him at all. The Slytherin prince had so much to worry about. Harry absolutely refused to make Draco come home for his convenience, wether it be dreams or Cedric. The dreams were only dreams. And the latter Harry could handle.

Cedric was simple. Cedric was the current prince of Hufflepuff, and at only 14 years he was already quite used to getting what he wanted. He had currently seen Harry, enjoyed his company, and decided he wanted him. Cedric would constantly came up with elaborate reasons for Harry to spend time with him, where he would comically try to seduce him. Obviously, he had not succeeded, and it was futile, but it was a very annoying and tiresome affair for Harry. Harry could simply run away from Cedric when Draco was not there, but the poor boy couldn\'t run away from the nightmares.

When Draco was home, Harry usually slept fine; only lately had he been having the nightmares in his presence. But visions once every few days was nothing compared to when the slytherin wasn\'t home. He came the nights that Draco wasn\'t there. Despite constant assurance, and his better judgment Harry felt he was still there.

Tom, always there, always claiming him, always breaking Harry. Either telling him, who he belonged to or worse, showing him. The most graphic dreams were the bad ones, when Tom raped him. They seemed so real. One night, when Tom was particularly angry, there was blood, after Harry had woken up. It was everywhere. Harry didn\'t know what to do.

Harry didn\'t want to see Tom again. Ever. The memories hurt so much. He really only wanted to be with Draco forever, but he couldn\'t be selfish and ask for that. No, it just wouldn\'t be right, Draco had things to do, and Harry took up enough of his time. While Harry\'s brain fumbled for a solution, nothing seemed to work. Sweet emerald orbs gazed at the fire intently, slowly closing. The fatigue of two sleepless days apparent on his beautiful features. Abruptly Harry opened his eyes, feeling a warm breath on his face.

\"Hello Harry.\" A blissfully dazed voice, only found in Harry\'s nightmares crawled into his ear. The dark silhouette stood starkly against the illumination of the fire. Arms on either said of the chair he had Harry surrounded.

\"You know I don\'t like it when you stop sleeping, it does nothing for your eyes.\" Gently caressing Harry\'s face, Tom leaned further down, whispering in his ear, \"It doesn\'t matter though. You\'re still mine, you know . . . Forever,\"

\"You\'re not real,\" Harry looked away.

\". . .and always\" Tom smiled, standing up.

\"Oh, Harry, I\'m quite real. And I\'m coming back for you. That monster shall not have you.\" Tom walked over to the bookcase. Mindlessly picking things up and examining them.

\"I love Draco. Leave me alone. Allow me my happiness.\" Harry\'s grim voice was directed toward the floor.

\"You don\'t love him. You will see; I am the only person to bring you happiness. What\'s this? Medication?\" Tom picked up a small phial from the dresser. \"Harry, Harry, Harry, these will be the death of you. They are terribly addictive.\"

\"They stop people from dreaming, and when I take those, I won\'t see you!\"

\"Well, Im here, aren\'t I?\"

\"I must have forgotten . . .\" Harry tried to rationalize Tom\'s presence.

\"But you did.\" Tom dangled the empty phial in front of him, ridiculing him in a childish way. The coamings of a smirk danced on Tom\'s face in the firelight.

\"No, you are making me think I did. When I wake up, it will be full.\"

\"Suit yourself, my darling . . . \" Tom\'s sweet voice hummed with adoration, \"In the interim from then, why don\'t we have some fun?\" shutting his eyes tightly, Harry ignored his surroundings for the time being.

Harry waited for nothing in the courtyard of the castle, the greenery all around him. He reveled in the safe heaven the flowers provided. All the small creatures seemed to swarm around him. Between his gentle mannerisms, and his kind smile, no animal could refuse the sweet innocent boy a visit! But startled easily, all the creatures scuttled off at the introduction of a new character.
\"Draco!\" Harry got up running toward him.

\"Oh, Harry! I missed you so much.\" As soon as Harry got there, Draco was already holding him tightly. Harry was enjoying the feeling but it dawned on him.

\"Draco, you aren\'t supposed to be back till next week!\"

\"Aren\'t you glad to see me?\" Draco\'s Malfoy arrogance perked up to the occasion.

\"Well, yes, but . . . you\'re so early? Why?\" Harry smiled looking at Draco.

\"I finished up, and I had a bad feeling, I wanted to check and make sure everything was okay.\"

\"Well it is.\" Harry closed his eyes sighing into the sanctuary of Draco\'s arms.

\"Draco you can let go of me.\" After about five minutes Harry had had enough. As funny as it sounds, it was beginning to hurt him.

\"Sorry, I was really worried. I guess I\'m just stressed; The people of Southern Slytherin are still upset about Tom\'s death. It\'s Dangerous. I really just had a bad feeling.\" Draco gazed down at Harry adoringly. Harry looked up into the familiar love in Draco\'s eyes.

As Draco had said, the border to Southern Slytherin became more and more treacherous. Harry began to understand how ruling a country could change someone. It had certainly changed Draco. Harry didn\'t know how to describe it. Draco was more . . . clingy. It wasn\'t exactly bad, but it wasn\'t the Draco he know. He was so much more touch-oriented, but Harry understood it was what he needed at the moment. It just felt so different.

\"Harry?\"

\"Yes?\" peering over the back of the armchair, Harry glanced at Draco, who was now covered in paper work.

\"I have to go on another trip.\"

\"Yes, so you\'ve said.\"

\"I would like you to come with me, it\'s supposed to be a fairly long trip. I really want you to come with, so I don\'t end up leaving early like last time.\"

\"Okay, that sounds nice.\" Harry beamed truly glad to be with Draco. The dreams wouldn\'t hassle him if Draco was there. Looking back down at his book, and leaving Draco to his paper work, Harry melted once more in his favorite armchair.

\"Harry?\" Startled Harry looked up to see Draco leaning on the side of the arm chair looking at him.

\"Yes?\"

\"I love you.\"

\"I love yo-\" before he could finish, Draco was thoroughly ravishing his mouth. Moving around for better access Draco started to work on his buttons, undoing them with haste.

\"Draco I don\'t really want t-\" Once more cutting him off again, Draco looked at Harry with loving eyes.

\"Please?\"

\". . .alright\" With Draco in this state of mentality- just what could Harry do? Ironic how you could being forced because you hated someone, or be forced because you loved someone. Harry was scared to notice the similarities, not finding the line between life and nightmares.
