Summary: Harry never really thought about the mating habits of magical creatures. He wasn’t one so it didn’t concern him, right? Wrong.

Chapter 1

Harry was looking forward to going back to school. He was definitely tired of staying with the Dursley’s, though he did have to admit they had treated him slightly better this summer. At least he had been fed regularly. Of course, that may have something to do with the fact that at least one member of the Order had checked on him once a week. The Dursley’s were too afraid to mistreat him.

The Dursley’s dropped him off at King’s Cross Station and scurried back home like frightened mice. Harry just pushed his trolley onto Platform 9 ¾ and waited for his friends to arrive. He hadn’t been standing there long, when Draco Malfoy ran into him. Harry nearly fell over with the force behind the blonde.

“Watch it, Malfoy,” he growled, picking up the items that fell off his trolley. He didn’t notice that Malfoy hadn’t immediately moved away. Well, not until he bent over and his arse brushed against Malfoy’s hardening groin, that is. Harry quickly straightened up and glared at Malfoy. “Was there something you needed?”

Draco leaned closer to Harry, trying to inhale more of that delicious scent emanating from the wary brunette. Harry balked at the closeness and stepped back. For further distance he put the trolley between Draco and him.

“What is your problem, Malfoy?” he hissed, annoyed at the strange behavior from the blonde.

“What is that scent your wearing? It smells divine,” said Malfoy, starting around the trolley to get closer to Harry.

“I’m not wearing any scent. I’m going to get help. You’ve obviously been cursed or something. Wait here,” he said, running towards the train.

He got on the train and started searching for someone knowledgeable about curses that affected emotions. He finally found Hermione in the last cart and dragged her to his trolley where Draco was still waiting.

As soon as Harry got near, Draco immediately tried to get close to him again. Harry turned to Hermione and said, “See? He’s acting really weird. Can you do something?”

Before she could say anything a voice said from behind her, “Draco, what are you doing with these…people.”

They turned around and saw Lucius Malfoy. Harry, instead of being insulted, actually looked relieved. “I never thought I would say this, but thank goodness you’re here Mr. Malfoy.”

Lucius turned his surprised gaze towards Harry, cocked his head, and inhaled deeply. “Why would you say that, Mr. Potter?”

“There’s something wrong with your son. He keeps crowding me and asking me what scent I’m using. I’m not wearing a perfume or cologne of any kind. I think he’s been cursed.”

Lucius leaned closer to Harry and took another deep breath. Draco had the right idea. This man definitely had an enticing scent. “Mr. Potter, you do smell delicious. I wonder if you taste as good.”

Harry squeaked and ran behind Hermione. “You’ve got to do something, Hermione. I don’t know what’s wrong with them.”

“I suggest we get your trolley and get on the train. We’ll just have to stay away from Malfoy until we get to school. We’ll ask Dumbledore for help when we get there,” said Hermione, grabbing Harry’s trolley and walking them both backwards.

Several people stared at them as they made their way to the train because Harry and Hermione were walking backwards, and the two Malfoys were stalking them. When they reached the train, Hermione blocked the door as she handed Harry his things to store in a compartment. Once his things were stored, she pushed him into the compartment and placed several locking charms on the door.

“He’s the one? No way,” said Draco, staring at his father in horror. “And what about you?”

“Looks like I’m getting a divorce,” said Lucius casually.

“What?! You’re going to divorce mother for Potter?” cried Draco. “How could you do that?”

“It’s part of the prenuptial agreement. If at any point after the marriage, I found my mate, the marriage will immediately be terminated,” said Lucius calmly.

“How can you be sure he really is your mate? If you’ll remember, I smelled him first. Maybe he’s my mate instead,” said Draco smugly.

“It all depends on who gets him first, then. I’ll meet you at the school,” said Lucius, smirking at Draco’s screech of rage.

Draco stormed onto the train and left Lucius standing on the platform smirking.

“Ron, thank goodness you’re here,” said Hermione, pulling the redhead into the compartment and replacing the locking charms.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, staring at Hermione and Harry in confusion.

“The Malfoys were stalking Harry,” she cried. “We think they were cursed or something.”

“What do you mean they were stalking Harry?” asked Ron incredulously, looking to Harry for a viable explanation.

“Well, I was standing on the platform beside my trolley when Malfoy ran into me. All of a sudden he leaned closer to me, sniffing me, and asked me what scent I was wearing. Even after I told him I wasn’t wearing any scent, he still kept trying to get close. I ran to get Hermione, and soon after we got back to the trolley, Lucius Malfoy showed up. I tried telling him that there was something with his son, but he did the same thing Malfoy did. We had no choice but to retreat,” said Harry judiciously.

“You know, Harry, now that I think about it, they sound a lot like veelas. Not full veelas of course, but even part veelas have mates. Veelas sense their mate by scent. However, unlike full veelas, part veelas don’t have the overwhelming allure,” said Hermione excitedly.

“You’re saying that the Malfoys are part veela and Harry is there mate?” asked Ron incredulously. “No way, uh uh. You can’t be serious.”

“I don’t know what to think. I’m more inclined to believe they were cursed. Fate can’t hate me enough to curse me as the mate of two veelas, right?” asked Harry softly.

“We’ll get to the bottom of this,” said Hermione reassuringly. “We’ll talk to Dumbledore tonight.”

“You’re too right we will,” said Ron firmly, lending his support.

“Narcissa, I need you to sign these papers,” said Lucius calmly.

“Really, dear? What are they?” she asked, staring at the contract in confusion.

“Divorce papers,” said Lucius, smirking at her cry of dismay.

“You can’t be serious. The only clause in the marriage agreement for divorce is if you find your mate or I bear a child not of your parentage. Neither of those have happened,” said Narcissa, smiling smugly.

“You couldn’t be more wrong, Narcissa. I found my mate today. Apparently, he reached his majority over the summer,” said Lucius.

“You mean to tell me that your so-called mate is just now 17. That’s low even for you,” said Narcissa. “What will Draco say?”

“Well considering we seem to be fixated on the same person, he’s either going to have to learn to share or prove himself the better man,” said Lucius, smirking at Narcissa once again. “Now sign the papers.”

Narcissa glared at Lucius and reluctantly signed the papers. Her only consolation was that Lucius had at least left her with a large settlement. Even as she signed her marriage away, she was already thinking of ways to spend all that lovely money.

The train pulled into the station at Hogsmeade, and Harry, Hermione, and Ron hurried off the train and into the first available carriage. They saw Malfoy heading towards their carriage, but Ginny, Luna, and Neville reached the carriage first.

“Hurry up and get in,” snapped Hermione.

They quickly climbed into the carriage and stared at Hermione in surprise. It was a little early in the year for her to be so snappish.

“Hermione, are you all right?” asked Neville tentatively.

“We’re trying to avoid Malfoy,” she said calmly.

“Why?” asked Ginny. “I know you don’t have the best history, but you’ve never actively avoided him.”

“He’s either part veela or cursed with a love spell or something,” said Ron.

“Why do you say that?” asked Luna.

“He’s stalking Harry like a lovesick puppy,” snapped Ron.

“He seems to be enamoured with Harry. Apparently, Harry smells really good to him,” said Hermione.

“So why are you avoiding him? If he’s that enamoured, now would be the best time to get some revenge for past deeds,” said Ginny.

“Ginny! I’m not using someone’s misguided feelings towards me to get revenge on someone. He’s probably under a spell, so it’s just not right to take advantage of that,” said Harry.

“You’re just too nice, Harry. I don’t think anyone else could resist,” said Ginny, smiling at Harry teasingly. She laughed outright when everyone else in the carriage nodded in agreement to her assessment.

The carriage stopped and they all climbed out, cautiously looking around before hurrying to the castle doors. They walked into the entrance hall, and the first person Harry saw was Remus Lupin.

“Moony!” he shouted. He ran to the werewolf and hugged him. He hadn’t seen Moony in forever. Harry stiffened, though, when Remus buried his nose in his neck and inhaled deeply, tightening the arms that he had wrapped around the young man. “Moony?”

“Happy late Birthday, Harry,” Remus mumbled into Harry’s neck. “Merlin, what is that scent you’re wearing?”

Harry finally managed to wiggle his way out of Remus’ arms and stepped back quickly. Unfortunately, he stepped back into Draco’s embrace. When Draco wrapped his arms possessively around Harry, Remus growled menacing at the blonde.

“What is going on here? Mr. Malfoy, unhand Mr. Potter right away,” said Professor McGonagall, rushing towards them. Hermione and Ron were trailing behind her.

“He’s mine!” shouted Remus and Draco simultaneously.

Harry was struggling to get away from Draco when Remus grabbed his arm and ripped him away from the blonde. Remus immediately wrapped his arms around the still struggling Harry and growled at everyone in the room.

“Stupefy!” shouted Hermione and Professor McGonagall.

Draco and Remus collapsed to the ground upon the spell’s impact. However, Harry still hadn’t managed to break Remus’ hold, and he was dragged to the ground with the werewolf.

“A little help, please,” he muttered from his position on the floor.

“Oh, sorry,” said Hermione, prying Remus’ arms away from Harry and pulling him from the floor.

“What was that all about?” asked Professor McGonagall.

“We have no idea. We were planning on speaking to Dumbledore tonight to see if he knows anything,” said Hermione.

“Well I suggest you do that now,” said McGonagall, pushing the trio towards the stairs.
