\'Ah, peace at last!\' Neville thought to himself as he eased himself into one of the more comfortable armchairs of the Library. There were a few students scattered about, but there weren\'t about to bother Neville. Or at least, not like the others...
Harry, Ron, and Hermione had been pestering him for weeks about his social life, or lack thereof.
\"The fact that I haven\'t got a girlfriend doesn\'t mean I need one,\" he muttered angrily to himself. The Trio, Hermione especially, had taken a genuine interest in Neville\'s love life lately.
\"Why, Neville, why are you sitting here on your own?\" Hermione had approached him earlier in the Gryffindor Common room while he had been working on his latest Potions essay. \"Isn\'t there anything else you should be doing?\"
\"What could be more important than homework?\" Neville pondered. This certainly wasn\'t like the normal Hermione.
\"Well, erm, you do have a point... But Ginny\'s been sitting over there by herself for awhile. Don\'t you think you should go and talk to her?\" Hermione pointedly jerked her head toward the opposite corner of the Common room. Ginny was curled up in an arm chair with a huge book in her lap.
Neville gulped. \"Hermione, er, I don\'t know...\"
\"Oh, Neville, PLEASE! Don\'t tell me you haven\'t noticed her stealing glances over here in your direction. Why don\'t you do the both of you a favor and get yourself over there?\" Hermione certainly wasn\'t about to give up on playing Cupid.
\"Hermione, you do realize who\'s sitting behind me, right?\" Neville had lowered his voice to a whisper.
Hermione quickly checked behind her. Sure enough, there had been Harry, (completely oblivious to the situation), playing wizard\'s chess with Ron.
\"Honestly, Neville, do you expect me to believe she still fancies him?\" Hermione queried.
He said nothing, yet his eyes gave him away.
\"Oh... Er, well, then... I\'ll just... Oh, bugger!\" Hermione abruptly turned and flounced off to the girls\' dormitories, clearly exasperated that she hadn\'t realized something first, for once.
Neville sighed. Harry and Ron hadn\'t been too subtle, either. Clearly, the Trio wanted Ginny to have a nice, quiet boy for a beau. But even Neville knew Ginny better than that. Seeing as how the last three boys she\'d dated had been older than her, and all from Slytherin, there was no doubt in Neville\'s mind that Ginny wasn\'t attracted to nice boys at all.
Now, he finally managed to elude them, and had escaped to the Library to think things over.
Neville began to feel a goosebumps sweeping cross the nape of his neck. He was being watched. He flicked his eyes upward from his book, only to see that he was alone in the library, save for Blaise Zabini, who seemed remarkably interested in the book laying in front of him.
He sighed. \'I\'m really going nutters...\' he thought. \'I came here to relax, and relax I shall!\'
He took a deep breath and re-focused his attention on his book. No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn\'t shake the feeling that someone was watching him. Neville took a deep breath, and looked up, only to find a pair of cool, blue eyes gazing intently into his own from across the room.
\'Whoa, fierce!\' he thought. Neville had never before realized that Blaise Zabini had blue eyes. \'Certainly goes nicely with his dark hair... wait, what the FUCK?!\' Realizing once again that it was only the two of them in the library, Neville suddenly became very nervous. He gulped, and tore his eyes away from Blaise Zabini\'s stare.
He heard a chuckle come from the other boy.
\"What, think I\'ll bite? I assure you, not all Slytherins have fangs.\" Neville was startled. Was Zabini actually talking to him? This was certainly getting weird...
\"I never said they did,\" Neville replied, trying desperately to keep his cool.
\"I could tell from that terrified expression on your face that you think I have the ability of detaching my jaw and swallowing you whole! You can\'t lie to me, Longbottom,\" Blaise chortled.
\'What\'s with all this familiarity?\' Neville wondered silently. \'Is this git trying to scare me?\'
\"What do you want, Zabini?\"
Blaise gathered up his books and ambled over to the armchair next to Neville\'s.
\"Why the suspicion, Longbottom? I\'m a nice guy, really.\" Neville didn\'t seem to think this was the case. Blaise seemed harmless enough, but his eyes twinkled in a way mischievous enough for Neville to reconsider.
\"I\'m only suspicious of whatever reason you may have for actually daring to speak to me. What would happen if Draco or one of your other little pals happened to walk in here and see you talking to a Gryffindor?\" Neville smirked. He knew he had Zabini there.
Blaise seemed to consider it, then, \"Draco and his cronies are hardly my pals. Besides, they\'re all off at Hogsmeade, anyways. Speaking of which, why aren\'t you with the rest the golden crew? Surely they didn\'t leave you here...\" Blaise smirked back at Neville.
Neville paled. \"If by the \'Golden Crew\' you mean my friends, I\'d rather not talk about it.\" He noticed something flicker in Blaise\'s eyes for a moment. What was that... Disgust?
\"What have those Gryffindor idiots done now?\" Blaise snarled.
\"Nothing,\" Neville mumbled. \"Nothing at all, okay? Now, bugger off and bother some other bloke.\"
\"I\'m sure any other bloke wouldn\'t be as interesting as whatever you have to say,\" Blaise remarked. \"Spit it out, Neville.\"
At first, Neville looked surprise that Blaise used his first name. Why was Blaise Zabini even talking to the designated klutz of Gryffindor Tower? Neville sighed. Although the two of them hadn\'t been talking for long, he felt he could trust Zabini not to spew off the the sordid details in the Slytherin common room.
He told him everything, including the misunderstanding with Hermione that morning.
Blaise gave a low whistle. \"Why are they trying to force you on the girl?\"
\"I suppose they think I need someone. Hermione mentioned something about how I always seem lonely, or some rot like that,\" Neville commented, instantly wishing he hadn\'t. Blaise\'s eyes had become clouded over, as if the very thought of Neville being lonely was inconceivable. \'Dunno why he\'s surprised,\' he thought glumly. \'Who\'d want clumsy old Neville Longbottom?\'
Blaise seemed to read his thoughts. \"Are you, really?\" he asked softly. \"I don\'t see why you should be.\"
Neville glanced up from the table top and looked Blaise in the eye again. Was he hearing correctly? Did he hear Blaise actually say that?
\"Does it really matter?\"
\"Of course it does.\"
\"I don\'t see why it should.\"
At this, Blaise fidgeted in his armchair, clearly not wanting to justify himself.
\"Well, no one should have to feel that way.\"
Neville thought this over for a moment, then returned his gaze to the wood coffee table again.
“It doesn’t really matter. It’s not like it would have made any different, really, if Ginny really did fancy me. That‘s hardly the problem.” Neville instantly regretted this, and glanced quickly up at Blaise, only to see the the blue eyes widen for a moment, then regain their wicked gleam. Oh shit, he’d guessed. He figured out Neville’s secret...
Blaise reached over and grabbed Neville’s hand, and jerked him out of his seat. He led him past the armchairs, round behind the bookshelves. Putting both hands on Neville’s chest, he lightly pressed the boy against the wall.
“Blaise...” Neville’s heart was beating at the spead of light, threatening to tear it’s way out of his chest and tackle the handsome boy in front of him.
“When you say that’s hardly the problem, do you mean...” Blaise pointedly licked his lips, and glanced Neville’s in an obvious fashion.
Ohshit, ohshit. He knew. Neville’s cheeks flushed, and he, too, licked his lips, and stared down at the floor.
Blaise stepped closer. Ohshit. “How long have you known?” he whispered.
“Seems like forever,” Neville whispered back.
Blaise grinned, and the two of them closed the remaining centimeters between them. Blaise leaned in, and Neville replied. They pulled each other into a gentle, yet passionate, kiss. By the time they pulled reluctantly away, Blaise’s long fingers had made their way into Neville’s long locks, and Neville’s hands were preoccupied with the toned musculature of Blaise’s stomach.
Neville grinned cheekily at the other boy, and Blaise took this as an invitation for more. This time, Neville wrapped his ams around Zabini’s neck, and pulled him in for a more passionate kiss. Blaise ran his hands down Neville’s sides and was rewarded with a deepy, throaty moan. Neville parted his lips and ran his tongue along Blaise’s lower lip, finding himself rewarded with a groan in return. He then explored the wilderness of Blaise Zabini’s mouth with his tongue, lazily tracing patterns on the roof of Blaise\'s mouth. He felt something hard press against between his hips, and realized Zabini’s arousal was as great as his own. Neville reached down and gently tugged Blaise’s hips into his own, gyrating slowly.
As if suddenly realizing that they were, indeed, living in reality, the two boys pulled back from one another, Blaise looking slightly stunned at Neville’s brazen actions.
Neville gave a small smile, and Blaise’s shocked expression transfigured into a wide grin. He reached for Neville again, but this time was cut off.
“As much as I’ve enjoyed this, I actually do need to get an essay done for Potions,” Neville said.
Blaise looked disappointed for a fleeting second.
Neville saw this, and shyly added, “Do you think we can continue this later, though?”
The blue-eyed boy grinned back.
“Yeah... You’re all right, Longbottom.”
“You too, Zabini.”
A/N: I have another chapter, if you will, already written for this story, but I\'ll make a few little corrections to it before posting it. I\'d have to say that beyond that, there probably won\'t be much of an ongoing story. Thanks for reading!
