Disclaimer: Obviously not mine… okay well if you don’t recognize it then it’s mine. Like Emi… she’s mine. And the concept to bring back those from the dead… if there is a mention of it then I haven’t done my work properly and I will correct that as soon as I can. But that isn’t for a while yet. -part one-
Draco ran through the halls of Hogwarts, realizing how late he was before even reaching the dungeons. ‘Sev’s gonna have a fit when he realizes why I’m late. Damn that Potter!’ Skidding graciously around the twists and turns of the staircase, Draco had to backtrack as he stumbled off the last couple stairs. ‘Stupid Potter and stupid stairs!!’ Regaining the speed he lost from the trip off the stairs, Draco continued to race down the halls, finally reaching his destination. Stopping a few feet from the door he adjusted his appearance and took a few deep breaths to calm his racing heart.
“How nice of you to join us Mister Malfoy,” Snape sneered from his desk, although he didn’t once look up. “Please take your seat and we can talk after class is over.” Snape flicked his dark gaze at his star pupil. “You’ll be working with Mister Potter.”
It wasn’t until then that Draco realized Harry had somehow beaten him to the classroom. Eyes bugging out and jaw dropping slightly he gaped at Harry as the other boy smiled and nodded to his friend and moved to the empty station with a victorious smirk on his face. “Beat yah Malfoy.”
‘HOW?! That isn’t possible! I left before him and took the straightest route here. That minor slide past the hallway couldn’t have cost me that much time could it?’ Draco screamed in his head as he shook his head to loose the dumbfounded expression. “How?”
Harry just smirked as he replied, “Wouldn’t you like to know?” With a glance at the board to see the list of ingredients and the directions his confident expression faltered, leaving the “I’m-totally-confused-and-don’t-know-what-I’m-supposed-to-do-now” look.
Draco put his books down and looked at the directions himself. ‘Why are we making Wolfsbane?’ With furrowed brows he memorized what was needed then grabbed Harry’s arm and dragged him to the closet to get the supplies.
“There is no need for both of us down here Malfoy.” Harry informed in a harsh whisper.
“Well, I didn’t see you moving to get things. So you can just carry it all back to the table.” With that he began getting everything they needed and piling it into Harry’s waiting arms. “Why are we making Wolfsbane anyway?” he asked as he ended up taking the top few items from Harry and walking back to the station, Harry falling in line behind him.
“Dunno, it’s just what we’re making I guess. I’m not Snape so how would I know why we’re making it?” Harry replied quietly, his gaze slipping to watch Draco’s feet so he wouldn’t trip.
“My ass is a little higher up than that Harry, and you know it.” Draco smirked as he glanced at Harry, only to chuckle softly at the other boy.
“Oh shut up Malfoy.” Harry snidely replied even as the blush crept up his neck.
Draco chuckled again as he put his share of the supplies on the table. Little known fact as it was, the two had come to enjoy each other’s company and had begun to talk and laugh with each other instead of fight and sneer at the other. And frankly, they preferred it that way. “It’s Draco, Wonder-boy.” Draco corrected before reaching to help Harry rid himself of the supplies.
“And it’s Harry, Drakie-poo.” Harry shot back good heartedly.
Draco looked up at Harry and the two just shared a glance before they both erupted in laughter. Everyone turned to look at the two “rivals” who consequently lowered their heads and cleared their throats. “Back to work!” Snape reprimanded as his eyes glanced towards the door to his private rooms, where a minor crash and a yelp had reached his ears.
Draco and Harry, as well as the rest of the class, went back to work and remained quiet until the end of the Double Potions class. Harry helped Draco clean up then sat on a desk in front of the other boy. Removing his glasses, having gotten his eyes corrected over the summer with Draco, he was avoiding telling the world he no longer needed the offending plastic. Draco looked up at him with an elegantly raised eyebrow.
“He told me to stay as well. I only got here about a half a minute before you did.” Harry replied off-handedly as he pinched the bridge of his nose and swiveling to watch Snape. “So a week?”
“At least. Menial tasks without our wands.”
“Or stupid essays somewhere around ten feet long.”
Draco chuckled but agreed. “Which we’ll of course do together despite what he says.”
Harry nodded.
“Alright boys,” Snape began as he rose from his seat. “I need the two of you to follow me.” With that he walked toward the door to his private rooms without waiting to see if the two boys were even following.
“Professor? Aren’t you going to assign us a week’s worth of detention?” Harry questioned as he skipped off the desk and started down to the front of the room.
“Or at least a ten foot scroll on some topic that we will never be covering in this class?” Draco suggested as he followed Harry.
“Actually boys, I want you to help me with something. Just keeping an eye on someone for me when I can’t.” Snape replied and walked into his room. “Wait there a second.” He disappeared through the doorway, leaving two startled boys waiting on the other side.
“Babysitting? He wants us to baby-sit?” Draco seethed.
“There, there Draco. It can’t be that bad. It’s probably some little kid or a baby who will sleep all day.” Harry assured.
“I’m not a baby or some kid who will sleep all day.” A petite girl replied, as she followed Snape out of the room.
“Boys, being as I cannot watch Emi all day and I trust the two of you more than you would expect,” he rested his gaze on Harry at that, “could you please let her spend time with the two of you?”
“What about class?” Draco whined, obviously not pleased with this punishment.
“What about class? You will attend your classes. Meals and classes she will go with whoever she wants but at night I would like you to bring her back here Draco. Any questions?” Snape quickly explained.
Harry grinned and shook his head. Bending to one knee before the little girl he bowed at the waist and extended a hand. “Why hello there young miss. I am Harry Potter.” He raised his startling green eyes and offered another smile as he peered at her through his tame mass of hair. The summer had done wonders to him.
The girl laughed. One hand clutching a stuffed black dog with a purple collar she reached out with her other hand to touch Harry’s. “I’m Emi.” She giggled and a broad grin spread across her face, revealing sharp, sparkling white teeth.
Draco grinned and shoved Harry off-balance before bowing gracefully in front of Emi. “And I am Draco Malfoy. It is an utmost honorable pleasure to meet you Miss Emi.” He extended a hand to the girl as he rose to stand upright.
Emi laughed at the attention then turned her violet gaze towards Snape. “So I get to spend time with Harry and Draco, Uncle Sev?”
A rare smile crossed Snape’s face as he reached to brush a few stray locks of ebony hair out of her face. “Yes Emi. Now be a good girl and don’t bother them too much.” He faced the boys. “Don’t you dare hurt her or you’ll be facing detention with Filch until graduation. Got it?”
Both boys nodded as Draco helped Harry to his feet. “Right then, I’ve got DADA what about you?” Draco asked leading the other two out the door.
“DADA, with you of course,” Harry groaned. “I really don’t see why I need that class.”
Draco laughed and turned to Emi. “Your choice, doll.”
Emi scampered in front of the two boys and spun on her heel sharply, sending her mid-back length ebony hair whip-lashing around her. Setting her violet gaze on the two, she bared her sharp teeth in a huge grin. “I want to see Daddy.”
The boys shared a quick glance; the thought “werewolf” had passed through their minds. “Daddy? Who’s Daddy, Emi?”
Her grin broadened, if possible, as the rest of her face lit up in anticipation. “Your professor, duh! Professor Lupin!” She giggled and bounded off down the hall, leaving Harry and Draco in a state of shock.
They looked at each other, down the hall at Emi, then back to each other. “Lupin!?” they asked at the same time, clearly surprised that the werewolf had returned to Hogwarts for their seventh year.
“That means she is part werewolf if Lupin’s her father, you realize that right Harry?” Draco chimed in as the two headed toward DADA, keeping half an eye on the bouncing girl in front of them. “I wonder who the mother is.”
“I have a hunch but I’ll wait for Remus to say something.” Harry murmured.
“Lupin.” Draco corrected.
“Professor Lupin,” said professor corrected the first correction. “One, two you’re late and three, thank you for bringing her here. I’m sure she’ll have a blast.” With that Lupin ushered the two stragglers in and had Emi sit in between them and began the class.
