Prologue.

A dark-haired man walked quietly down to the dungeons, his home for what seemed like an eternity, but finally, this was to be the last time he would have to stalk through the endless corridors of the dungeons. He closed the door and renewed the wards set out to alarm hi of intruders. As he sat down in his armchair by the fire, he took off the bulky black robes that signified him as the Potion’s Master of Hogwart’s. He now only wore a white button down shirt and black trousers. He undid the cuffs and three buttons at the neck, he could finally breathe. He sighed deeply and leaned back to relax in the warm atmosphere in front of the fire.
It’s been so long… he thought. I have been living this lie for so long, it seems like I wanted this. For he didn’t. A lifetime ago, he ad saved the life of a boy that would just as soon kill him as look at him. In so doing, triggered a life-debt so strong, that if there were any chance of breaking it by saving him, he would have no choice but to accept it.
That boy had been Severus Snape.
The bane of the Marauder’s existence…. however, there was something about Severus that he could never hate…His integrity.
For even though the boy had hated him and his friends so much, he had the markings of a great man in him. As soon as the young man caught wind of what was going to happen to the Potter clan….
“No,” He stated firmly. I can’t think about this, not now…
He stood up and walked determinedly to the bathroom. For the first time in what seemed like forever, he was going to take off the glamour that was so carefully put there. And that weakened him greatly…
With just a wave of his wand, he looked at the face of a man he hadn’t seen for eighteen years.
The face of James Potter.
