Chapter 1: The Shock

Severus Snape irritably stood at the door that was blocking his way into Number Four Privet Drive. Glaring at the offending piece of wood, he attempted to drill holes through it with withering looks alone. When that didn\'t work, he settle wra wrapping on the door twice, in an authoritative manner. Waiting impatiently for someone to answer, he was tempted to blow the thing off its hinges to get to his goal, retrieving that wretch of a boy, Potter.

Just before he pulled his wand out, a woman opened the door. If he had been anyone other than Severus Snape, he might have been tempted to gawk at her as though she were a spectacle at a muggle zoo. She greatly resembled a giraffe, with her elongated head and face. He began to get odd visual images of her straining her little bean pole body to reach leaves off a tree for dinner. Sneering at her when she rudely asked what he wanted, it took all his will power not to hex the annoying bitch.

"I\'m here for Potter," he said in a silky voice that implied serious damage to anyone who dared try to stop him from his goal.

Blinking owlishly at the man for a few seconds, she then wickedly grinned up at him, "Good. You should jus just said that as soon as I opened the door. With it gone, Vernon will have no choice but to sleep with me again." He could swear that he heard her start to mutter about screwing and a boy before she started talking again. "You\'ll find it up the stairs, third door on the left. You can\'t miss the room, it\'s the only one with locks, dead bolts, and chains on it. I can only say good riddance, and don\'t expect us to take it back next summer."

Watching the woman walk away, Severus was left to think about what she had meant. Why would the boys uncle be sleeping with him in his room? Was the child\'s room that much larger than the master bed? He had it all pictured in his head now, the splendor the room was done up in, the large, four poster bed, and other various, expensive knickknacks thrown around the room. Sneering, his dislike of the imbelic brat grew more, thinking of how the boy lived a truly charmed and pampered life.

Entering the room after a quick alohamora, Severus was startled to find Harry\'s room rather barren. The windows were boarded over, allowing only minimal light in. There was no bed in the room, simply a blanket full of holes. There appeared to be absolutely nothing in the room. Assuming that the woman had been mad, that there was no way Potter could live in a room like that, he was startled to realize he could hear erratic breathing coming from in the room. Feeling along the wall, Severus felt the light switch. Flipping it up, he bathed the desolate room in light, looking for what had caused the noise.

Scanning the room, Severus walked in further, looking over every corner. Noticing a small, quivering mass in the furthest corner from the door, he went to it. He was relieved and terrified to find out that it was Harry. The frail looking fifteen year old boy was sitting, huddled on the floor, hugging his knees. He was quite nude, rocking back and forth, muttering about how bad he was, with his head resting on his knees. Staring at him, Severus started to take an assessment of what he could see. He noticed bruising covering the majority of his body, severe lacerations, the way his ribs stuck out, showing malnutrition. What sickened him the most was the fact that their was blood and a white substance, that he strongly suspected to be semen, puddling under the boy, seemingly coming from his abused ass.

Walking up the boy while saying comforting things, Severus tried not to frighten the seemingly skittish boy. Placing his fingers under his chin, he lifted the boys head off his position on his knees. Gasping at what he saw, Severus was horrified to see the once vibrant green eyes turned into sightless, murky green eyes. Trying to keep himself calm, he asked "What happened, Potter?"

Flinching away, Harry seemed to withdrawal into himself, starting his rocking and chanting again. Trying to think on what he had done to cause this, he assumed that the volatile reaction was from the use of his last name. Trying again, he said, "Harry, it\'s okay. I\'m not going to hurt you. I just need to know what happened. I want to help."

"Sir...I...I don\'t know, sir. I can\'t remember," hearing the dry, scratchy quality of Harry\'s voice, Severus wondered how often he had yelled, screamed, begged, and pleaded this summer. His thoughts were interrupted when Harry spoke again. "Sir, if it\'s not too much to ask, do you think that maybe, uh, you could tell me who you are?" Noticing the soft spoken innocence behind his voice, sounding as though he were a small child, Severus was left to be amazed that the boy could still seem so innocent after everything he had been through.

Shocked by the fact that he didn\'t recognize his voice, he replied, "My name is Severus. Severus Snape. I\'m taking you away from here, forever. I will personally make sure you never have to come back to this despicable place every again."

"Okay, sir." Hearing the way Harry replied, Severus was worried that more permanent damage had befallen the boy besides his obvious blindness. He was worried about the boy\'s memory. Helping the teen to stand, he was amazed at the childlike qualities he showed, his trust in someone that was a stranger to him. Of course, he was probably an angel to the boy considering his relatives. Noticing that Harry was just standing there, not moving, Severus went on a hunt for clothing. Telling Harry to stay right where he was, he headed out to the room right next door, finding a blubberous mass staring at an odd contraption that had naked people doing things that were better left in the bedroom.

"What are you doing in my room?!?" the mass yelled. Silencing him with a spell, he gleefully watched him flee the room, one hand firmly on his fat rump, the other over his mouth. Starting his search again, he soon found some suitable clothing. He choice sweat pants and a sweat shirt because the material would be very loose and baggy, meaning that they wouldn\'t aggravate the boys wounds. Walking back into Harry\'s room, he found the boy standing right where he left him. Making swift work of dressing him, he grabbed the boy\'s hand and led him out of the room.

Warning the boy of all obstacles or stairs, he helped him down to the kitchen, where he found the irritating woman trying to console the blubber boy. "What have you done to my Duddy-kins?!? He can\'t speak! If you so much as harm one..." Falling silent when she saw the wand, the woman shrank back away from the irate wizard.
"I am going to assume that you are the boy\'s Aunt. That would mean your name is Petunia." Not waiting for an answer, he adopted an openly hostile look before resuming speaking to the woman. "Now, I have only two questions for you. One, where are the boys school supplies? And two, where is his owl?"

Turning her nose up in a superior way, she shrugged before replying. "We burnt that godforsaken trunk with all its school supplies. That includes that evil stick, the hideous cloak, and that goddamned awful photo album full of pictures of freaks! We won\'t have anything to do with that rubbish. We were going to kill the owl, but evidently two weeks without food, and running out of water, caused the diseased thing to die on its own. We burnt it right along with its stuff. Of course, the stupid sod couldn\'t do anything for two weeks after that. Lazy, useless thing. It\'s good for nothing, I tell you."

Trying to reign in his emotions before he killed these overly annoying muggles, Severus breathed in and out in a calming manner. Turning towards the boy, he called over his shoulder, "I suggest that you and your family not be here when I return. You see, I won\'t be coming alone, and you will be charged with everything we find on this boy. From the looks of it we\'re looking at assault, starvation, rape, and intent to kill or seriously maim. That\'s good enough to get you life in a Dementor free cell at Azkaban, but since this is Harry Potter, well, we\'ll just say you\'ll be lucky to have your souls still intact after the trial." Smirking at the dawning horror on the woman\'s face, Severus then led Harry out of the house, steering him around onto an un-populated side street.

"Are you tired, Harry?" Severus asked, allowing concern to leak through in his voice. Noticing the swaying that was occurring while the boy bobbed his head, Severus decided it would be in his best interests if he carried him. Scooping the protesting child into his arms, he sorely wanted to kill the Dursley\'s when he felt him tense and attempt to frantically free himself. Cooing to the boy, he attempted to keep him calm, finally resorting to grabbing a calming potion that he kept on him. Tipping it down the boy\'s throat, he was thankful when he calmed, and thankful that he carried various potions with him when he went somewhere.

Once all the thrashing had stopped, Severus got to feel just how underweight the boy was. He began to wonder when the last time was that he had actually eaten. Or for that matter, if the boy ever got to eat this summer at all! He did not look forward to trying to explain to the Headmaster, or Black for that matter, what condition he had found their Golden Boy in. Grimacing when he noticed that blood was seeping through Harry\'s clothes, Severus decided that apparating both of them as close to Hogwarts as possible would be the best solution. The boy needed immediate medical attention. Pulling him tightly to himself, he clearly visualized their destination, and with an almost inaudible \'pop\', they were gone.

Landing in the outskirts of Hogsmeade, Severus set off at a brisk run, glad that his companion seemed to be dead to the world. Harry had succumb to the inviting darkness that was slumber, allowing for Severus to be able to rush without startling Harry. Picking up speed, Severus flew into the entrance hall of Hogwarts. Swiftly making his way to the infirmary, Severus was irate to notice that the mediwitch was not there.

Casting a spell on his voice, Severus called out to her. "MADAME POMFREY! MADAME POMFREY, COME TO THE INFIRMARY IMMEDIATELY! WOULD ALBUS DUMBLEDORE AND SNUFFLES, HIS DOG, ALSO ACCOMPANY HER?" Countering the spell, all the nervous man could do was pace the floor in hopes that they would arrive soon.
