Hold On

Author\'s Note:

I\'d never heard or thought of a Snape/Hermione pairing until a couple of days ago, and I knew I had to write this. Since the first time I heard this song, I had this random storyline in my head. I\'ve been trying to create characters that fit ever since, but once I found this pairing I knew J.K. Rowling had already done the hard bit.

Hold On

Snape heard a song he\'d never heard before as he walked into the Muggle Studies classroom. Despite his stoic appearance in front of students, Snape was slightly obsessed with music.

\"What station are you listening to, Professor Granger? I\'ve never heard anything like this.\" Hermione turned around to face him as she tied the fuzz she\'d learned to subdue into curls into a ponytail behind her head.

\"Oh, it\'s not station, Professor,\" she smiled proudly. \"It\'s a Muggle CD my parents sent to me.\" Snape raised his eyebrows skeptically.

Muggles don\'t have music this good, he thought. Aloud he asked, \"And how are you listening to it here?\" Hermione\'s smile widened.

\"I charmed this CD player into ing, ing, without having to use electricity. Even the insides don\'t use electricity.\"

\"How interesting,\" his deep voice dropped low. Hermione, not knowing his passion for music, assumed he was just being polite.

\"Yes,\" she paused. \"Well, what di--\"

\"Do you have any other songs?\" It was Hermione\'s turn to raise her eyebrows. At a sort of loss for words, ioneione nodded and skipped to the third song on her CD.

The song played, while Snape and Hermione sat in silence. Snape stared resolutely at the floor. Hermione raised her eyes to his face, and saw something different in his face. She couldn\'t be sure, but she felt like she was seeing an emotion. Mostly around his eyes, she couldn\'t have described it. It seemed a bit of the mask he continually wore was melting away a bit. As the song ended though, it snapped back on. He looked up at her, a sort of smile ing ing at the corners of his lips.

Hermione couldn\'t know what was going on in Severus Snape\'s head as he listened to a Muggle sing a song seemingly for him. Potter may have told her of the images he\'d seen during the Occulemency lessons, but it wasn\'t a complete picture. This song was. He wanted to hear it again. He debated asking her, but decided against it. Instead he returned to the task he\'d come to complete.

\"Lovely, Miss Granger,\" he said in his normal tones. \"Thank you.\" She nodded politely. \"Now, the reason I\'m he.\" .\"

A/N: Well, we all know that reviews make the world go round. I don\'t know about you, but reviews make posting these stories worth while. I am terribly afraid of letting people read my writing, but when people review it makes me feel better. Unless, of course, it\'s flames which could throw me into depresion. Anyways! Point of the story: Please review, I love to hear what you think.
