Summary: The deepest evil resides in the purest hearts. Only those who have known the light of good can become the vilest demons. This is a lesson that Hermione Granger has learned well, as she lives her life as a spy for the dark while desperately trying to maintain her façade as a creature of the light. Can Draco, son of the most malevolent Death Eater ever to be created, help Hermione find the part of her soul that was ripped away, while keeping her already fragile sanity intact?

A/N: For those waiting for a new chapter on Stormwalker, I’m sorry! This plot bunny was gnawing on my foot for such a long time I had no choice but to listen to it. They are very persuasive...

Chapter 1: Meaning of
I can feel the blood, flowing through my veins
Spilling on my soul
And now the hunger\'s getting bigger
Come a little closer now
Pretentious whore and pull my trigger
Free the violence that is building in me
I say now end of the ride, murder suicide
Is how I\'ve been feelin\' that I can\'t ignore
And the need to getcho cho
Is not a question to me
-Meaning of Life, Disturbed
Hermione stepped onto Platform 9 ¾, the three-inch heel of her leather boots clacking very loudly against the cold, emotionless, concrete floor. The ground at her feet was much like her face, with an empty smile and a chill in her deep cinnamon eyes that would make the Devil himself run for cover. But she didn\'t care. The mask was necessary. Every one of Voldemort\'s servants had one, besides the dispicable Wormtail. She tried to keep herself from snarling. The Head Girl of Hogwarts was not an animal. On the outside, anyways.
While Hermione certainly acted like nothing had changed, her new appearance certainly drew a few stares from younger students. Her beloved black boots went to the top of her calves, seamlessly melding with the tight leather pants she wore which led to the dark halter top which led very little to the imagination. But it did hide the new tattoo. Silver hoops started at her lobes and went to the top, glinting as she walked. Hermione couldn\'t wait to see the look on Harry and Ron\'s faces.
They were still her friends, right?
She struggled to remember and a searing pain shot through every part of her body. Hermione collapsed to the floor and her bags crashed as well. A 17-year old boy with unruly blak locks and a tall red-haired teenager rushed over, crouching at her side.
\"Hey, are you alright?\" Harry asked, unaware that this was his long-time compatriot as her head was face down and she looked nothng like the Hermione Granger he knew.
The witch made a pained noise as she tried to get up. Ron shooed the small crowd that was forming away with a very unpleasant glare and a baring of his teeth. Harry\'s emerald eyes widened in surprise as the clues finally snapped into place.
\"Hermione?\" He asked, voice filled with shock.
Ron sputtered a m a moment as recognition flooded through his thoughts. His ex-girlfriend certainly looked....different, but neither of them had seen her over the summer so some change was to be expected, but this was certainly new. Maybe that trip to Russia had done something to her.
Hermione stood slowly and her worried and pained face shifted back to the empty mask she had worn since summer ended. Since...no! He had told her not to think about it, in case one of the Order was near. She mentally rebuked herself and finally answered when Harry said her name again.
\"I\'m alright, Harry. I\'m alright. Just felt dizzy for a second.\" Her voice was hollow, but her friend nodded a little.
\"Liking the leather, \'Mione.\" Ron said with a weak smile, still worried about what happened.
\"Thanks.\"
\"We better get on the train before it leaves without us, huh?\" Harry said and picked up one of Hermione\'s bags. Her hand shot out and held his wrist in a death grip, her knuckles going white.
\"I\'ll get it.\" She said quietly, and let go of Harry, who stepped away, cradling his wrist. Hermione picked up both bags as if they weighed nothing.
\"Sorry.\" The witch said absently, and quickly loaded her suitcases before stepping onto the train.
Her friends shared a look filled with worry and followed her inside, but she had already disappeared to the Head Girl and Boy\'s car, leaving them only to wonder what had happened to their friend.

Draco Malfoy was lounging in the car dedicated only to himself and whomever was chosen as Head Girl. Probably Hermione. Their relationship had actually improved over the summer, unbeknownst to Potter and Weasley. They had met accidentally in a tavern right after school had ended for the year and spent a while talking, and after a few shots of Ogden\'s Firewhiskey, bof thf them were apologizing profusely for everything they\'d ever said to each other over the years.
They had set up a time to speak again about a week later, but she had been an hour late, with a black eye and tears streaming down her face. After a while, she admitted to being raped, and made him swear never to tell a soul. He had kept himself ftom even thinking about it in respect for her well-being. The subsequent times they had meant, she had seemed happy, but he could see through the mask and found a broken heart. But neither had said a word about anything but trivial matters.
When she walked into the car, Draco blinked. She certainly had changed a bit. He looked at the leather and the new piercings...and her face. Her beauty, for long ago he had admitted that she had become quite the woman over the years, was still there, but somehow marred by the cold glare, an angelic face with a demon\'s soul.
\"Hello, Draco.\" Hermione said, sitting next to him before falling silent. She seemed to be staring off into space and said nothing when the Head Boy responded likewise.
A few minutes later, Albus Dumbledore walked inside, his usual sparkle behind his spectacles. Hermione jumped a little and quickly composed her face into a smile. Draco frowned a little.
\"Hello, Headmaster.\" She said with a sweet voice.
\"Hello, Miss Granger, Mr. Malfoy.\" Dumbledore said with a nod.
Draco nodded as well.
\"I am glad to see our new Head Boy and Girl in such high spirits.\" He said and took a seat across from them.
\"This year, as representives of the school, you are expected to keep the high grades and behavior that you have made in order to obtain this position. So no late-night excursions and the like.\"
The Headmaster smiled, knowing that someway, somehow, more trouble would be stirred up by the Golden Trio. At least he could be comforted by the fact that Draco had come to him and volunteered to be a spy for the Order after finding out that his father was going to have his son take the Dark Mark in a few weeks. But Dumbledore had not told any of the other members due to the fact that he knew no one would trust Draco, and thought it best not to start any more chaos.
\"Of course, Headmaster.\" Both of them said, right after the other.
\"Good. Now I\'ll leave you to the joys of having a cabin away from the other occasionally annoying students until we arrive at Hogwarts.\"
The Headmaster stood and left quickly, having other business to attend to. Once the door closed, Hermione\'s face once more became one that eerily reminded Draco of a statue.
\"What was that about?\" He said, a hostile undertone in his voice.
\"Whatever do you mean, Draco?\" Hermione answered, cocking her head and looking him in the eye, a disturbing smile on her face.
The Head Boy shook his head and said nothing, eyes closing in an attempt to sleep. His er\'er\'s increasingly painful beatings had continued to the end of the summer as he drilled the \'Responsibilites of a Death Eater\' speech into his skull. He had feigned stupidity to keep from taking the Dark Mark until it was absolutely necessary.
He did not see Hermione watching him as he passed into unconciousness.
