Finding Serenity in the Least Tranquil of Places

The Great Hall really looked magnificent illuminated by candles and draped in the bright greens, reds and yellows of the school colors. Ginny had been longing to see it again for the entire summer. She just knew that this was going to be a different year; a better year than the years before. After all she was in her 6th year of Hogwarts now, she was practically a full-grown witch. Most of her brothers had finished their schooling and she only lived in the shadow of Ron. It was her time to shine and she planned to make it happen.
She quickly made her way to the Gryffindorf table and sat in her normal spot near Lavender, Harry, Hermione and Ron. She was quickly bored with their usual prattle killing Voldemort, Nimbus 2001, and Quidditch. Not to mention Hermione’s usual angst about exams and the coming year. She didn’t understand why these topics were really annoying to her today, but her anticipation for the year had made her long for a new outlook on Hogwarts not the same thing she’d had the years before.
Ginny got up and left the table; saying that she was sick. She was sick. She was sick of this monotonous life. Before she knew it she was surrounded by the beautiful paintings that lined the 4th floor corridor. This was where she came to think. Her thoughts were the most clear when she was here. She walked over to her favorite balcony and looked out over the grounds of the school; only then did she realize that she was not alone in her quest for solitude.
There was no mistaking that snowy blond hair, but what was Draco Malfoy doing without his usual entourage of ignorance: Crabbe and Goyle? It was as if he sensed her presence just as she had sensed his for in the next instant there were two ice blue crystals cutting through the darkness.
“Ginny?”
“What? Not Weasel?”
“Oh right. Weasel. Why aren’t you at the Great Hall? I am head boy now I could report you for that. 20 points from…..”
“Please don’t. It’s the first day. I don’t want to make a bad start of it already.”
“I suppose this time I can be lenient. Let’s go to the Hall though before its both our necks. You look different Ginny. You’ve changed. You look almost like a normal girl.”

They entered the great hall. Ginny, completely unnoticed, and Malfoy, immediately surrounded by his Slytherin cretins.

“You’ve changed too Malfoy,” said Ginny under her breath as his friends carted him away to the dark grey and green table.
